What Can I Do With A Bachelors Of Science Degree In Health Science

Jobs with Health Science Bachelors degree?

I will be receiving a health science degree next month, and am trying to figure out what to do with it. I am planning on going to graduate school for OT, but my husband is in the military and we're not sure where we're going to be next year, and I would like to have a job (and possibly a career if things work out) in the meantime.

Does anyone know of anything available with this degree? I want to work in the health field, not at a desk all day, and in general just want to help people out.

What can one do with a health science bachelor’s degree without plans for advancing their studies (i.e., medicine, pharmacy)?

I am in the middle of a career change and have just completed my BS in Health Sciences with an option in Public Administration and Management. I am going to pursue a management or supervisory position within Health Care system. My University also offered and option in Occupational Health and Safety that involved more environmental science and safety administration within workplace or city establishments. You can also pursue a teaching degree in this field. Most people will pursue positions within healthcare and health departments or community health specialists.

Someone help! health science bachelor's degree. What to do?

I've never understood why people pick degrees without a strong understanding of what work they can do with them. *This* is one of the major causes of unemployment in new college grads.

I don't think your degree sounds great at all. It's a gateway degree - one you get before going on to a Master's or doctoral program. You should have had a goal from the second you chose this degree so that you could be taking the classwork that would allow you to get a competitive master's or doctorate.

You need to sit down and have a chat with your degree advisor (not a general advisor) and ask them what's out there. Start talking to smaller Pharma and device companies about their hiring processes. If you need to push your graduation date out so you can take prereq classes, investigate this. Start researching lab positions. Start researching clinical study assistant positions. See what's out there.

Good Luck

B.S Health Science Degree?

The BS in health sciences is really meant to be a degree that is earned prior to earning a masters degree in one of the fields you mentioned. You really cannot get any signficant jobs with a BS in health sciences...it's mostly meant so that you can take the courses you require for your master's degree without having to take a lot of classes you don't need. A BS in biology is certainly appropriate too, but you'll wind up taking some extra classes that you don't need for the PT, OT or SLP degree.

Do not allow your employers or schools to tell you that you have to have more schooling to get a job. That is a lie. The employers are challenging you and the schools are trying to make more money off of you. You have to be strong and stand up to them in a professional way. Your Health Science Degree is enough. Maybe you don’t have experience but you have training. Just stand your ground with the employers and do not let them bully you. They will. I can guarantee you on that one. If you do have experience, all the better. If you want more schooling to do certain things, that is different as that is your choice. I am not talking about additional certifications. Certifications are always good. If that is what they mean, that is okay. Just don’t let them tell you that you have to have anything more for the jobs listed above.
