How good is a Computer Engineering degree ?
Computer engineering is not information technology. Most universities offer computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering and information technology programs. Computer engineering is more for people who want to design hardware. They often have electrical engineers that help out with the intricacies of the wiring and circuit boards of certain components. Software engineers and computer scientists use that hardware and figure out a way to program it to do what they want. IT makes sure that hardware and software continue to work how it needs to. Most IT people work in server environments where they just maintain the server environment and keep infrastructure running how it should, although software engineers are more than capable of doing this as well plus more if needed.

Can I do something in robotics with a computer engineering degree?
Yes, electrical, computer, mechanical or mechatronics engineering would all be appropriate majors if you want to get into robotics, mechatronics being the best (although it is not offered by most schools). Choose electrical/computer if you want to get into more of the electrical/software side of things (i.e. how to wire it up and control it). Choose mechanical if you are more interested in the physical design of robots, or if you're particularly interested in building mechanically complex robots. Although choosing electrical/computer over mechanical (or vice versa) won't limit you in the end. Aside from mechatronics engineering, none of the other fields have much of a focus on robotics, getting one of those degrees will simply give you enough of a background to comfortably move into robotics. Therefore you'll be taking courses that are largely unrelated to robotics for the most part. So I'd highly recommend that you look through the curriculum of each of the different fields to see which one you find most interesting overall. Otherwise if you just choose one of the degrees without much thought, you might end up going through another 4 years of classes that (most of the time) you hate, just so that at the end you can go into robotics (obviously it would be much nicer to go through 4 years of classes that interest you! Plus you might find other interests along the way).
Should I major in Computer Engineering or Computer science?
Both are excellent majors. Keep in mind that one is probably more theoretical (Computer Science) than applied (Computer Engineering). Also, be willing to get more than simply a Bachelor's Degree, especially if you plan to teach/research at the university level. Often a Masters Degree will place you ahead of the competition.
