What Caused The War In Sarajevo

What caused WWI?

On 28 June 1914, Gavrilo Princip, a Yugoslav student, killed Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, in Sarajevo. Princip was a member of Young Bosnia, a group whose aims included the unification of the South Slavs and independence from Austria-Hungary. The assassination in Sarajevo set into motion a series of fast-moving events that escalated into a full-scale war. Austria-Hungary demanded action by Serbia to punish those responsible. Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, when it deemed it had failed to comply. Major European powers were at war within a matter of weeks because of overlapping agreements for collective defense and the complex nature of international alliances. Though the assassination was the event that started the war, it was the last in a long succession of complex causes and events that pitted the nations of Europe against each other.

Why did the Serbs put Sarajevo under siege during the Bosnian war?

Because Sarajevo is now as it than was capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina, internationally recognized state months before war. Serbs attacked BiH with plan and military force from Serbia, helped with Bosnian Serbs in global plan to eliminate all non-serbs in BiH, creating Great Serbia as they called it. So, Sarajevo was important town to win, by that they could easily brake defenders moral in all other parts of BiH that they defend.Sarajevo was in siege because of many international forces, peacekeepers as an shield against Serbs to get there from hills above and start what they did in Srebrenica, Prnjavor, Kozarac, etc… - elimination of non-serbs.Btw, If you do not know, they eliminate around 8000 muslims in protected enclava Srebrenica 1995 in just a week, as they brake trough defense. So, imagine what could happen to sarajevos 350 000 souls…!!!!!???? To explain better in Srebrenica was Dutch peacekeepers contigent of “blue helmets”, so serbs did genocide…Secondly, they act like animals, having better armament, modern weapon, artillery, mortars, snipers, and they USE it all against surrounded people in Sarajevo. Very military low moral actions…Finally, Sarajevo in that time have lost around 14.000 good people who stayed to defend (all religions Muslims, Serbs, Croats, Others - real Bosnians). Very sad but true, and Europe watched it all and act selfish, not protecting…Sarajevo was and it is in Europe all the time.Shame for us all, shame for Serbia, shame for Europe, shame for World!REMEMBER SARAJEVOREMEMBER SREBRENICA

How are the 5 causes of World War I connected?

Imperialism & Nationalism was at it's root really just Ethnocentrism which is the belief in the inherent superiority of one's own ethnic group or culture. This has lead to most of the problems on earth let alone for the first world war.

Militarism: For years the nations of Britain, Germany, France, Russia, Belgium, Austria-Hungary, & Serbia had mock war plans in place long before the assassination of Prince Ferdinand. For example; "The Schlieffen Plan so-called after its architect, was the most important government document written in any country in the first decade of the 20th century." " for it caused to ensue on the field of battle, the hopes it inspired, the hopes it dashed, were to have consequences that persist to this day." (pg. 28)
Pre-war war planning is called pigeonhole planning. The Schlieffen plan was Germany's plan and was first drafted in 1892 and was not finished until 1912 at the death of the Author(pg.31).

Alliances had been in place for years before the war due to other smaller disagreements and aggressions such as the defeat of Germany in 1870 which it lost Alsace-Lorraine to France. Russia had long been France's ally. Austria-Hungary had long been Germany's ally. France agreed to help Belgium in an immediate crisis. Britain actually had a choice to help or not though they would never had considered helping Germany they were reluctant to go to full head on war for France.

The assassination led to an asking of alliance from Austria to Germany (which really wanted to anyway). Germany was the first to initiate ultimatums to France and Russia(big mistake). The war did not begin until 28 days after the murders in sarajevo.
