What do New Yorkers think of Texas?

On a road trip from San Francisco to NYC via LA and New Orleans in 1999, I drove through a huge chunk of Texas. From Albuquerque I went east to Amarillo, then down to Abilene, over to Dallas, down to Austin, east to Houston and then left the state. Which is funny, since even after all of that driving I think I covered about 1/4 of the actual state. It was my first time in Texas and all I had to go on were media representations and stereotypes. Texans were big, loud, cowboy-hat wearing racist jerks, who hated everyone from the North.I couldn’t have been more wrong. I met a lot of Texans and they couldn’t have been friendlier or more welcoming, even though it was obvious I wasn’t from there. The food was great (I like Tex-Mex and BBQ). The countryside was…. rather uninteresting, but not offensive. I saw an eye-popping number of stars one night in central Texas. I saw the largest thunderstorm I’ve ever seen, probably by about an order of magnitude.Since then I’ve come to Dallas and Houston a number of times on business and always had pleasant experiences - and I’ve also learned just how diverse the state population is. Yes, there are stereotypical white Texans, but (obviously) also a large population of people of Mexican descent. But I met an Uber driver from Eritrea in Dallas who told about the sizable community of people from East Africa there. I’ve met numerous Indian transplants who either live there or are moving there. This New Yorker thinks Texas get an undeserved bad rap.

In Texas can you carry a gun in your car for self-defense?

Handguns:Texas statute( Texas Penal Code Section 46.02) explicitly states that if a person is an adult who is not otherwise prohibited by law from possessing a firearm, is not a member of a criminal street gang, is not committing a criminal offense other than a Class C misdemeanor offense relating to traffic or boating , that person can carry a loaded handgun in their car or boat, as long as the weapon is hidden from view. They may also carry the handgun from their house or place of purchase to their car or boat.Long Arms: The Texas Penal Code is silent about long arms, specifically. You can carry a rifle or shotgun in your car or truck, open or concealed, loaded or unloaded, in a rack or lying on the seat. You can walk down the street in downtown Dallas with an AR platform rifle slung over your shoulder. It's perfectly legal. If you start foaming at the mouth or start muttering that your “"gonna get those…” or act like a threat to public safety ( i.e. acting like a jerk), you will get busted for disorderly conduct. You can probably beat the rap, but you wont beat the ride. If you point the gun at anyone, you will get busted for aggravated assault or perhaps deadly conduct. You will be unlikely to beat that rap. Don't be a jerk .Hope this helps.

Would southern (Texas, Louisiana ect.) rap fans respond well to or support an East Coast style rapper?

I'm an aspiring Rap artist who lives in Houston, TX but originally hail from Brooklyn, NY. I've decided to launch my attempt at a music career but have doubts about the response I will get from rap fans and or industry people from the area. I plan on performing at upcoming open mics and am looking for some feedback as to what I might expect when my clearly east coast lyrics pump from the speakers. I have complete faith in my skills and thats not the issue, i just wonder about the audience.
