What Do You Get Out Of Yahoo Answers

If Yahoo Answers and Quora fought a war, who would win?

I hate to say it, but Yahoo answers would definitely win.Quora may have the sharpest minds, and even possibly the advantage in sheer force of numbers; we might be able to craft the best strategies and execute them with far fewer flaws than our YA brethren (and sistren); but they have one thing we do not: the perfect psychological weapon. We pride ourselves here on Quora with being cogent, well-spoken, even erudite. We celebrate smart people who can sling witticisms like so many stones. But the denizens of Yahoo answers could mentally paralyze any one of us at any time.Questions like “How is babby formed?” or “If I’m pregnant and have sex, and I’m having a girl, can my baby get pregnant while inside of me?” can render me near catatonic for days. I’ve been known after similar ill-formed queries to awake on the floor in a puddle of drool, dazed and disoriented. We may be better, stronger, or faster on several key metrics, but they…they are truly scary people.

Is Quora just a glorified Yahoo! Answers?

Sure, in the sense that a Tesla is just a glorified golf cart.  At the most basic level, they both work on the same principle, but one has design, functionality, capability and even looks that's far beyond the other.   The problem here is that you have two competing definitions of the word "glorified".  It can mean something that's given glory for no good reason, or it can mean something that's been made glorious.  If you mean the first, then no, Quora isn't given glory for no good reason.  It's far more prestigious because it has a great deal more to offer.  The differences between the sites may be subtle (some are, and some aren't) but they cumulatively make a huge difference in the user experience (at least, they did in my case). If you're using the second definition, then the answer is yes.  Quora took the basic concept behind Yahoo Answers and they made it into something glorious.  And good for them.

What is the difference between Quora and Yahoo Answers, etc.?

What is the difference between Quora and Yahoo Answers, etc? Most of the answers on Yahoo Answers are written by, well, yahoos. YA! does not concern itself with qualifications or credentials of those who provide answers. In this respect, Quora is vastly superior. A lot of the questions on YA! are posted by school kids wanting quick answers to homework. They usually feel entitled rather than grateful, and tend to be abusive when confronted or frustrated in their effort to get a free pass. Quora mostly discourages these questions, and usually flags them as homework, which I can filter out.The set of topics that are supported on YA! are a fixed heirarchy established by the website administrators many years ago. Each question must reside in a single topic. It is difficult on YA! to find a single, suitable topic for questions that cannot be answered with a Google search, and if you are lucky enough to find one, it is probably dead, with no responders.I won’t discuss the ridiculous point system on YA!, which motivates people to submit answers like “IDK” and “what he said,” in order to garner 2 points toward a “level-up”.When YA! decided that any question on the site would be answered in 1000 characters or fewer, I decided to not waste any more of my time with them. I tried StackOverflow (great for techies,) StackExchange (a haven for intellectual snobs,) and a few others so horrible that my memories are repressed. That’s when I found Quora, the proverbial happy medium. If you need some comic relief, by all means, check out YA!. If you want good information, look to Quora.

Why is Quora more popular than Yahoo Answers? What elements make it the more popular Q&A site?

A couple of years back, early 2015 I guess, I wanted to know about the basics of big data and its importance in industry.I googled “What is Big data”The first link popped up was Wikipedia - I opened in a new tab and set it aside. The second link was from Yahoo answers. I opened and was looking for some useful information. There were answers like:I was confused, irritated and most of the answers didn’t answer the question. The next link which popped was from Quora.I could find answers like this:Answer was by Balaji Viswanathan (பாலாஜி விஸ்வநாதன்) sir. That is the moment I followed him and read his other answers too! And that was the moment i decided not to refer yahoo answers for anything in future.Unlike Yahoo answers, Why was the answer better? It summed up all the information - technical explanation with real life examplesPictures made it easier for me to connect with answerThe credential “Ran a Big data company” made me believe the answer is from someone trustworthy.Upvotes and comments of appreciation from people in related field made me feel secured about the answerComments were healthy and was debating its future application. So, with no further discussions, Quora is always better than Yahoo answers.

How do you get rid of resolved questions on Yahoo answers without deleting your account?

From Yahoo Help pages:“You can ONLY delete a question before it receives its first answer.”See: Changes to your question or answer“If the question doesn't have an answer yet, the asker can delete it. Yahoo reserves the right to remove content that we determine to be inappropriate and/or in violation of the Yahoo Answers Community Guidelines or Terms.”See: Reasons for deleted questions, answers, or commentsSo I guess you could report your question as being in violation of the terms. I’m not sure if the moderation process will simply accept that. See: https://help.yahoo.com/kb/answer...

Is Quora a more serious and intellectual version of Yahoo Answers?

I think it is insulting to say they are intellectually inferior and that you or us are intellectually superior. Before I knew Quora, I was an avid user of Yahoo! answers and the quality of my answers or my exchanges were the same. I admit that it seems people in here are generally older and thus, wiser and smarter, but Yahoo! still have a lot of genuises hiding between the crevices.Do I think Quora is better from experience? Absolutely. For once, there is no competition to get the highest stars and people genuinely want to help or improve someone's life or views. Nothing motivates us except our desire to help. Points have become useless and obsolete anyway, so yeah, I'm answering because I want to. Everywhere on Facebook, Yahoo, Youtube, Instagram, Tinder and all the others, you have users and those users range from trolls to intellectuals and Quora is no exception, so I would advise you to change your views on Yahoo! answers users and get off your high pedestal.
