Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 picture over exposed?

Hi Ashley,

I am sorry that you are having problems with your Instax Mini 8. With cameras, it is really essential that you carefully read the instruction manual and practice using the camera before going out to take photos with it. With film, this means you need to buy a pack or two of film just to take test photos on so you don't mess up the ones you want to come out well.

So here's the deal with the Instax 8, the camera does not have auto exposure. It only indicates what the correct exposure mode should be based on the current lighting. Then you, the photographer, need to set the exposure mode either to what the camera indicates would be correct or to a setting that you believe would be better for the type of image you are taking.

The reason your photos are coming out overexposed is because you probably have the camera set to expose for indoor or maybe even cloudy conditions but you were shooting at the lake in broad day light.

Did you mention the temperature because you thought this caused the film not to develop properly? Extreme cold CAN cause issues with instant film but as long as the film doesn't freeze, the worst thing that will happen is that it takes longer to fully process the image. Fuji advises simply putting film that is in the middle of processing in a warm pocket.

At any rate, here is a link to the manual for the 8. Please read it carefully and practice shooting, then you'll get great photos! Best of luck and please do not forget to vote for a best answer!

American music lovers...do you ignore your own composers?

Yesterday, my wife and I were listening to a CD of the MacDowell piano concertos. Hardly earth-shattering works, but definitely a very pleasant change to the usual warhorses. And that made me think. If MacDowell is mentioned on this board (where, I guess, the majority are American), it is for one piece, 'To a Wild Rose'. Which made me think more. American composers generally get a poor showing here. Of course, we hear mention of Aaron Copland and less often Samuel Barber.. I've also seen one or two references to Charles Griffes ('The White Peacock') and Ferde Grofe, and occasionally Howard Hanson and Charles Ives. But what about the lady, Amy Beach? Where are David Diamond, Alan Hovhaness, William Schuman, Walter Piston, Virgil Thompson, John Alden Carpenter (with his 'Adventures in a Perambulator'), William Grant Still (thought to be the first black composer of note). Or (and getting a little more obscure) the 19th century's George Templeton Strong, Elie Siegmeister (with Copland, a Nadia Boulanger pupil) or the 'Dean' of West Coast composers, George Frederick McKay. I'm not saying these composers are amongst the greatest, but they have all written some pieces worth a hearing. Do Americans know of them, do they listen to them?

Aren't the British royals a bit overexposed? they are starting to look like reality TV stars!?

Not a day goes by that I don't get to come across headlines that talk about the royal baby smiling, or the royal baby crying or the royal baby burping after eating his food.... and if it's not that, then it's about the butt of pippa middleton, or kate middleton's 500,000 pound dress, or how harry got drunk and had sex with a hooker in las Vegas, or how X royal cheated on Y with M royal and so on.

Compare them to the other royals in Europe and you'll quickly realize how tacky the Uk royals are.

Like when was the last time you heard about the royal baby of Norway? when was the last time you read about the big butt of the future queen of monaco? when was the last time you heard about the future prince of spain sleeping with prostitutes in las vegas? the royals of Belgium only gets to be seen in royal functions, yet the royals of the UK are everywhere, from the Oscars in hollywood, to tacky magazines that talk about the lives of celebrities.

Why dont they just come up with a reality tv show called Keeping up with the British royal family?

Why do Hispanic women dress so Skanky?

If you ever watch hispanic television, you'll notice the women are dressed very provocatively and too young for their age. That's just their culture. Women are expected to be dressed in tight clothing, and have their breasts out on display for the world to see.
So then you get those same hispanics, with the same ideas of what's culturally correct, that decide to live in America. They do not understand that our standards of dressing is different. They can't seem to find the tight dresses, over exposed shirts, and bleached down the thigh jeans in their appropriate section inside retail stores so they resort to buying clothes from the Junior section and thus! Wrinkly woman with Hollister clothing and belly shirt.

(PS: the whole "brown face" thing sounded racist. Might want to refrain yourself from using such phrases.)

Why do we care what others think?

Even people we don't see much, or whose opinion really wouldn't matter - why do so many people let "what that person may think" stop them from doing things they want to do?

Opinions please! :)
