What Do You Think Of Canadian Music

What do Canadians think of Justin Bieber?

Are most Canadians aware pop singer Justin Bieber from Stratford, Ont is ultra-popular among the young kids of the U.S.?

Of course some people are mean and put Justin Bieber and "The Jonas Brothers" in the same category, when Justin Bieber represents the youth of the Canadian people and the Jonas Brothers are just Disney icons. Or am I correct?

Stratford, Ontario has a British flavour and I personally like the antique store and the proximity to London, Ontario. I think this antique store needs to get mentioned in one of Bieber's songs as a metaphor of some sort.

Justin Bieber should be more Canadian lyrics wise, now that he has American kids attention, you know? But make it not about Canada is better, but more like "Here is what my town is like.

What does Boards of Canada make you think of?

Boards of Canada is named after the National Film Board of Canada, whose films they watched as children (even though they’re Scottish). The music from Boards of Canada is often distorted, “lo-fi” (lower fidelity), loops, and incorporates acoustic samples, in many cases mimicking or exaggerating the music in old films from the actual National Film Board. Here’s an example film from the NFB:In general, as someone who has watched old films with this sort of music, it fills me with a sense of nostalgia for childhood, or a cozier, simpler world.

What do Canadians think about Céline Dion?

I can only speak as this Canadian. With regard to her music I think of her in three levels:“pre-eyebrows” As a younger singer she showed a talent and enthusiasm. Also a certain, just sing and don’t over do it, air. Whether it was a talent or hard learned ability, she was able to convey emotion which crossed languages.“Big Music”. I maybe mistaken but my take on the music industry is that a performer is not unlike an astronaut. The most visible component of a much larger and involved process. The flavour of the day was spanning a large dynamic range, although sometimes it seemed more like a yodeling contest. She was more than capable against her contemporaries such as Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston in competing in the vocal Olympics. Her “BIG pop” stuff wasn’t my favorite. One must acknowledge her team, of professionals. It’s good but doesn’t highlight what I feel is her strength. The fact that the average person doesn’t immediately turn the dial when the dreadfully overplayed “My heart will go on” comes on is a testament to the work of her team. ( yes, as Ed Robertson of the Barenakedladies said “CANCOM is a double edge sword”)“French Language and her lower key work”. As an experienced singer, she can still just sing. Be it just filling out an album or working on her French Language music there is less of the highly polished production vs just convey emotion or tell a story by song.As a person, I consider her doing better than most of the many Canadian ex-pats that have done well for themselves. If anyone had such a spot light on their personal lives, I doubt anyone could do as well. She has done well with dealing with celebrity having what some may feel was an inappropriate relationship with her manager. In fact, her marriage might even be considered admirable by some. What impressed me about her. It was the early 90’s and there were some mixed feelings about French vs English Canada. I saw her in a concert to a half filled 4000 seat arena in Newfoundland. Opening act was a stand up comedian. Was it, a just go to work performance? No. She gave the impression that she gave her all and even did a short encore. She melted away the tension of the politics of the day, won over the small crowd, and allowed people to have a good concert experience.

Do you think Canada has had it too good for too long?

Canada blows. Bunch of fairies.

What do you think about the Canadian pop/rock artist Avril Lasagna???

is she anything like Advil Latrine?
I'll bet she's going places

Why does Canadian country music never get played or heard by Americans?

Canadian Country Music is being played in the US. Lindsay ELL, Tebey, Emerson Drive and Brett Kissel to name a few. Shania Twain and quite a few others have made it on Country Radio in the US, as a matter of fact Emerson Drive and Lindsay Ell have played the ACM country music week. In Fact looking at the Billboard Country Airplay charts for February 17,2018 Alberta’s High Valley ranks 16 this week as well Calgary Alberta Native Lindsay Ell at 31 and Ontario natives - The James Barker Band at 57.

Which nation do you think creates the best music, the UK or America?

That depends on a lot of factors. The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Queen, Madonna, Michael Jackson and many more are considered to be the top of the best musicians so it’s a bit of both the USA and UK. And Zanzibar (now Tanzania) as Freddie Mercury was born there. But maybe you should also look on how popular the covers of specific songs are. For example, Hallelujah (song) is covered by a lot of different singers, including many amateurs. It was written by the Canadian artist Leonard Cohen, who died just a few days ago. Since 1991, it was performed by several hundreds of artists in various languages and has been used in various films and television shows as part of the soundtrack. This is also a very interesting song since it references several Bible verses, yet it has nothing to do with religion. Thus, both religious people and atheists seem to have no trouble to like it.So, considering this song I’d like to say Canada.Or Zanzibar if you like Queen better. The Netherlands if you like the 2 Unlimited songs. But various different European countries have produced some fine artists. If you can only pick between the USA and the UK then I would answer “The UK”. A lot of artists have their roots on this island. But if you like Rap music, or Country&Western then the USA would be a better answer.
