What Do You Think Of My Christmas Braces ;3

My braces are killing me!?

I just got my braces tightened yesterday and they hurt so bad and i tried to just suck it up but OMG they are killing me. Tomorrows christmas eve to and i want to enjoy it without having to worry about how bad my mouth hurts. IS there any thing i can do to ease the pain besides taking advil? I already took it and it did nothing. Please HELP!

Having a brace over christmas!!?

I had a removable brace first. It didn't hurt but was messy as the plate which is attatched to the roof of your mouth gets filled up with food when you eat .. yuk.. so you need to scrub it with a spare toothbrush after eating.

I later had traintracks braces. They feel like someone is applying pressure to your teeth when they are fitted. About an hour later they will start to ache. I took painkillers everyting I got mine fitted/repaired/tightened. Eat soup for the first day you get it fitted untill the achiness stops. The day after having it fitted/repaired/tightened. it felt like pulled muscles in your mouth (weird hey ! )
You will probably get blisters on the inside of your lips from the rubbing of the "traintrack" blocks. I used to get some special wax from my orthodontist to rub on the tooth blocks and this stopped the rubbing. Traintracks need not be a bore. Mine were funky as you can choose what colour bands you have.. Don't worry these pains should be over and done with in about a day or so.

Stuff I Need For My Braces?

- travel toothbrush, travel toothpaste, and wax (create a little kit to carry around with you with essentials... include your elastics if you are wearing them)
- proxyl brush (it is a small brush that looks like a christmas tree head - it fits between the wires and brackets)
- regular toothbrush, soft
- non-whitening toothpaste
- mouthwash, preferably ACT or another type that has added fluoride
- Peroxyl Mouthwash is the best on the market for mouthsores, very comforting and soothing... but it is not a fluoride wash, just an antiseptic
- chapstick (this is REALLY REALLY important!!)
- dental wax (you should be able to get plenty of this free from your orthodontist)
- threader floss OR waxed floss and floss threaders
- advil/ tynellol/ aspirin (some OTC painkiller)
- oragel (this helps with sores that just don't seem to go away)
- waterpick (these are nice when it is too painful to floss, but not required... and the cheap one from wal-mart will do!)

Your orthodontist will probably give you a kit when you leave the office, not to mention give you all the "rules" for proper hygenine and stuff... so you don't really have to worry. I got all the basics from the ortho the day I got mine, however I had most of the full-sized items at home already (my roommate in college went through braces).

After a couple of weeks, you will figure out exactly what you need to carry around with you and what you can leave at home. I carry basics either in my purse/ backpack and I also have a set in my desk at work.

What should one know before getting braces?

Being myself having braces, I should tell you my own experience. The Don'tsDon't chew on to hard food likeGumNutsCorn on the cobPopcornHard candiesGummy bearsTaffyAppleCaramelsIceDon't have sugary or acidic food and drinks too often.Don't brush too hard.Don't rinse your teeth just after eating. The DosDo eat soft food likeMashed potatoesSoupPasta, noodlesRicePancakesDairy (includes cottage cheese, milk, etc)SmoothiesMilkshakeYogurtPuddingJellyBest treat - Ice cream. (Not only it's amazing but also it boo away the pain)Every sugary food and drinks causes acid attack on your teeth for up to an hour after you eat, leading to tooth decay. Also, if your oral hygiene habits are poor and if food and sugar are left sitting on your braces or teeth, this may cause staining.Reduce decay and the risk of staining by avoiding sugary sna ks and rising your mouth with alcohol free fluoride mouthwash to help neutralize the plaque acids. Now, you've to take 2x care of your teeth because the stuckup food can cause great trouble! You've brush more often and nicely !Take painkillers on time because it f**cking hurts if you miss any!Put wax on the places that hurts.Use toothpicks to remove the stuckup food and carry it always or else your tongue will be tired and won't even be able to get off the food.Your diet is important when wearing braces. If you are interested in straightening teeth, but don't want to alter your diet Invisalign may be the braces for you! Invisalign clear braces are completely removable, so you can pop them out before you eat and avoid an damages to the braces. At last cherish your braces journey, it hurts a bit but it's fun! Try out different colour bands!Or maybeWell it's not even that bad! Enjoy!!Image source - Pinterest.

I am getting braces in a week. Do you have any advice that you wished you knew before you got braces?

My advice is to seriously reconsider getting them.If you are happy with your teeth, or could learn to be happy with them, rethink this. The first week I put them on, I could not stop crying. Gums were sore, teeth were sore, even tongue was sore. Had many cuts on the inside of my mouth (still do). Couldn’t even eat apple sauce, because when tiny bits of apple rubbed against my teeth, it hurt. Brushing was equivalent to torture. The taste of metal took a long time to go away. Maybe it hasn’t gone away for me, I’ve just gotten accustomed to it.Just about any sort of food will get stuck between the wires and brackets. Reconsider how you will deal with social situations, school, work, outings, places where brushing will not be readily available. Tongue will be sore after all the work trying to remove stuck food.Speech will likely change too. You might develop a lisp. Severity will depend on what other instruments are added. For me, I have a TPA (transpalatal arch), which is a metal wire stretching from one side of the roof of my mouth to the other. Furthermore, I have bite blockers (tiny devices placed behind my top two front teeth, to prevent me from biting down on the brackets). I would say they are the most uncomfortable part of my experience.Bite turbosTranspalatal archMost importantly, reconsider how your confidence might change. I personally thought I would look fine with braces on, however I was not prepared to see my face change to such an extent. My confidence dwindled the very second I saw (and heard) myself. The speech impediment goes away for about a few months, but if you are a young person, consider how having braces will impact more social aspects of your life. (If you are in a relationship, consider what sort of activities you will want to (or have to) do away with while wearing braces. Just check out this transpalatal arch again). If you’ve considered all this, and still want to go ahead, good luck. If not, depending on the severity of your case, maybe you could accept your teeth and get by without all this hassle?

Can I get my braces removed overseas?

i wouldn't do that your orthodontics knows your teeth best with the root x-rays and other material to know when your teeth will be straight. the roots of your teeth have a big part to do with your braces. unless they are an orthodontic then i would say no don't do it. Braces are a lot of money and if you want your teeth to be really straight i would let your first orthodontics do his/her job and make your teeth a success. Good Luck Though (:

Do you regret getting braces?

No. Not at all.Infact, getting braces done has been one of the best decision I must have taken for myself. My mom first took me to a dentist for braces when I was around 15 year old and I was completely against getting it done because I was about to enter into my junior college in 2 months and nobody wants the braces in college. The dentist told my mom I don't need braces and I was the happiest person on earth.Years later, when I joined dental college and got knowledge about teeth, I realised, hell!!! I Need braces. And getting orthodontic treatment done at the age of 20 is more embarrassing than getting it done at 15, trust me on that. That's my smile before and during the orthodontic treatment.Well, I did get it done but after I finished my college when I was around 24ish. My dad wasn't really in favour of it as he thought it will be an obstacle Now that he was looking forward to getting me married and the treatment being a long one for about 2 years or so.But I would like to give the credit to two people here.First, my friend then and husband now - Harshvardhan. He is the one who supported me and pushed me to get on with the treatment. If not him, I would have never gotten it done and would still be living with those gaps in between my teeth.Second, my orthodontist. He did a wonderful job in giving me this beautiful smile.I was very self-conscious about my smile but getting braces done, changed alot for me. My smile, my confidence to face camera and alot more....

When will I be able to eat with braces?

Aww bless.. I just got mine too, this morning! And they haven't put the elastics or wires on mine yet either, which is annoying. I don't have the same problem as I have an overbite, but I know how you feel about not being able to eat. I have undergone four very traumatic tooth extractions in the past month and so the area is very sore and I have not eaten anything solid for all the time! I am sick of it!

Teeth move about a millimetre a month so I've heard, but depending how young you are, they might move a lot more quickly. I'm an adult so mine will take ages! And they'll probably move more quickly at first! I think you will be able to adapt to eating solid foods quicker than you realise, so long as you keep up a regular careful brushing schedule and are very gentle with your bites so as not to knock the top brace.

Sorry this advice is probably not very useful but I do feel for you, and am going through the same kind of thing so I understand! They took out my main molars, I now have nothing to chew with as my front teeth have little brackets on!! argh so hungry!

Tip: i bought a hand blender, if you get 8 strawberries and a banana and some milk it tastse GORGEOUS blended up together!

I am afraid that i will have white spots BRACES!?

I brush my teeth every meal but i rarely floss and do no use the christmas tree brush thing. However, when it comes on brushing my teeth, i spend almost 2 minutes for each quadrant and even have my toothbrush in an angle which it could reach the areas of the brackets. I m also regularly changing my toothbrush every month. Would i get white spots or even worst spots once my braces was removed? I am so scared:(
