What do you think of my English name Silen? Is it strange or does it sound good?

Silen is not an English name. It’s a made-up word. (Edit: OK, there is a word silen, silen , meaning “a god of woodland,” but it’s the kind of totally obscure word that someone like me — a 46-year-old native speaker with an MA in English — can go an entire lifetime without ever encountering.)It sounds rather strange in English, like a misspelling of siren, but if it pleases you, go for it.I had always thought the purpose of “English names” was to help ease assimilation and allow the person adopting the name to feel more at ease in English-speaking countries, or when communicating with native English speakers, but I’m revising my opinion based on Quora’s many questions about make-believe “English names” that are generally no less befuddling to native speakers than the original name of the person likely is.

What do you think of the name "Clemon"? Is it strange?

I’ve never heard of the name Clemon. I did a google search and it looks like a family name that is very rarely used as a first name. The name Clement is better known, although it’s an old name and not commonly used now.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE NAME DANICA?

its very cute and different but not too weird at all. I love it!

What do you think of the name Mintie?

I think it's a fine middle name. Like you said, people rarely use middle names. They're for legal documents mostly. And, if your daughter would have it as a second middle name, I think it's great. It's nice that you want to honor your paternal great grandmother. Any ideas for first and middle name?

Do you think that Death Cab for Cutie is a strange name for a band?

Not any stranger than Toad the Wet Sprocket or Butthole Surfers. That’s the second time this morning Butthole Surfers has come up in conversation. Interesting.Anyway, in case you are curious and have not yet seen their Wikipedia entry, here’s how they got their name:Gibbard took the band name from the song "Death Cab for Cutie", which was written by Neil Innes and Vivian Stanshall and performed by their group the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band. The song is a track on the Bonzo's 1967 debut album, Gorilla, and was performed by them in the Beatles film Magical Mystery Tour. - Wikipedia

What do you think of the name of Learned Hand?

Adding to Scott Welchs answer, names do come and go in popularity. But “Learned” is one of a set of names that was much more common in bygone days: Virtues. There are still some female names that are virtues (you can still find women named things like “Hope” and “Charity”) but it has died out a lot in male names. They were especially popular with the Puritans, but didn’t completely die out with them. The names below are male (usually)I had a boss whose father was named Industrious. There is also Calm, Fortitude, Increase (Cotton Mather’s father was named Increase), Justice, Loyal, Noble.
