How is housing.com going to make money?

According to this article: Startup Housing.co.in takes a brilliant data based approach to house hunting - NextBigWhat.comAs far as monetization model is concerned, the startup charges a subscription fee (bi-annual and annual) to brokers which allows them to upload unlimited listings on the website. Listings for landlords is free for now and the startup may start charging a nominal amount later. To be honest, this doesn't look like a very good revenue model. If you've ever dealt with brokers, you'll know that brokers never pay. They are not conditioned to. Their aim is to maximise their share from a deal. Given the unpredictability of their business, they keep expenses to the minimum. That is why free listing websites like 99acres and magicbricks are littered with ads by brokers. Obviously, the current model is not going to make up for the millions they are spending on the product and marketing. As per one of the co-founder's answer here: Rishabh Agrawal's answer to How does housing.co.in make money? We are also developing two new verticals i.e . New projects section and land section which will be new revenue generating streamsThis looks like a very promising venture but with unpredictable payoff time. New projects get delayed all the time due to legal issues, capital and labour issues. But there is a lot of money to be made here.Housing has expanded a lot in one year. I know some of the founders and they are really smart people. I'm sure whatever I am saying they have already considered and a strong revenue model will be put in place soon. But if I were in their place I would take some time to decide whether I want to make housing a brokerage or a brokerage aggregator. That would decide how my revenue model shapes up.

What is it like to work at Housing.com?

Housing is an amazing place to work. The atmosphere is that of a startup, where you actually get to make a visible impact on the company and take responsibility for your projects. At the same time, you get the perks of working in a big company! And all this while being surrounded by some of the smartest brains in the country. Also, with an average age of less than 25, the office is filled with laughter and once in a while (or may be a bit more :P) you find college-like pranks being executed.  And the best part about Housing, it is not your age or experience that determines the level of responsibility you are given, it is all about your work.I think this video sums up the Housing experience pretty well. Edit: I decided to spice up my answer a little bit by including a few shots from the video and relating each one to everyday life at Housing.com.1. The time when you successfully commit your first lines of production level code and your mentor is overjoyed. 2. When you finally manage to find the errant CSS rule that was driving you nuts the entire day.3. We love working without Product Managers (not that we have anything against pm's. I guess we are even hiring a few :P ). But, that's how it looks when a sales guy tries to get hold of someone in tech.4. Scene at the office around 7PM.5. There's always someone, in some corner, huddled over his laptop screen. But, hey we love our video games!6. The moments when we do something that's not been done before. (I mean, we didn't find it on the first page of Google or in the StackOverflow archives :P)7. Come August and you will surely find a few of these in the albums of Housing's newest faces. (I hope to add mine this August!) Now coming to stuff that doesn't happen at Housing (umm..). We, at Housing, really really hate smoking. Our Data Sciences Lab conducts daily experiments to collect data points to show the detrimental effects of smoking on our bodies. So ya, this doesn't happen. Ahem. And this doesn't happen at all! Trust me, not at all. Update: The answer never talked about how we generally spend our Friday evenings. So, a few shots of the office from this past Friday should suffice. If you find this interesting, remember we are always looking for awesome people to augment our ranks. ;)
