That is called a phonetic alphabet. In your example, they would be running a license plate that reads 310RT. Many letters sound the same over the radio, so they use the phonetic alphabet to clarify. The actual letters are not standard, there is a military one that uses Alpha Bravo Charlie for ABC, my state uses Adam, Boy, Charles. What do you think of the name Egan for a boy? It is Gaelic and it means "Little Fire" Pronounced EE-gan Which spelling do you prefer Egan Eagan, or Eagen I love names that start with E. Love Ethan but it is too common for me. Any other suggestions??

If you think about it, we say "Little Italy about the area in Manhattan where first Italian immigrants used to live. 2) Hawaii Loa is believed to be the first discoverer of Hawaii. That is his name, so it might be the case that we call these islands Hawai'i because of his first name. Loa means "long" or "very". He was a chief of a Polinesian people who came to Hawaii around 400 a.d. from Marqueses. 3) in Hawaiian Dictionary by Pukui and Elbert: Elsewhere in Polinesia, Hawai'i means "underworld" or "ancestral home" .
