Can Garmin GPS stand heat/cold?

I think this pretty straight forward. It is a piece of electronics. If you are a person that leaves your laptop, cell phone and mp3 player in your car all the time, leave the gps too. If you are more like me and do leave items that you want to keep in good working order, then do not. In the summer, with the windows close and the car locked in 100 degree heat, I do not leave my mp3 player in the car, or the dog for that matter

What does GPS stand for? Is it Global Positioning System or Geo Positioning System?

Global Positioning System (GPS) is a worldwide radio-navigation system formed from the constellation of 24 satellites and their ground stations. The Global Positioning System is mainly funded and controlled by the U.S Department of Defense (DOD). The system was initially designed for the operation of U. S. military. But today, there are also many civil users of GPS across the whole world. The civil users are allowed to use the Standard Positioning Service without any kind of charge or restrictions.Global Positioning System tracking is a method of working out exactly where something is. A GPS tracking system, for example, may be placed in a vehicle, on a cell phone, or on special GPS devices, which can either be a fixed or portable unit. GPS works by providing information on exact location. It can also track the movement of a vehicle or person. So, for example, a GPS tracking system can be used by a company to monitor the route and progress of a delivery truck, and by parents to check on the location of their child, or even to monitor high-valued assets in transit.A GPS tracking system uses the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) network. This network incorporates a range of satellites that use microwave signals that are transmitted to GPS devices to give information on location, vehicle speed, time and direction. So, a GPS tracking system can potentially give both real-time and historic navigation data on any kind of journey.GPS provides special satellite signals, which are processed by a receiver. These GPS receivers not only track the exact location but can also compute velocity and time. The positions can even be computed in three-dimensional views with the help of four GPS satellite signals. The Space Segment of the Global Positioning System consists of 27 Earth-orbiting GPS satellites. There are 24 operational and 3 extra (in case one fails) satellites that move round the Earth each 12 hours and send radio signals from space that are received by the GPS receiver. The control of the Positioning System consists of different tracking stations that are located across the globe. These monitoring stations help in tracking signals from the GPS satellites that are continuously orbiting the earth. Space vehicles transmit microwave carrier signals. The users of Global Positioning Systems have GPS receivers that convert these satellite signals so that one can estimate the actual position, velocity and time.

How do stand-alone GPS manufacturers like Garmin or TomTom stay in business?

All bow down to the great God, the replacer of all tech, the provider of ultimate satisfaction, the pipe of all consumable media, the pacifier of the masses, and the ultimate Facebook updater, the cell phone?Dedicated GPS units are reliable, pretty cheap (especially compared to lifetime data plan costs), easy on batteries, & simple to operate. Long-lived, too.Besides, TomTom only does car units. Garmin, however, has many more product lines than just driving units — a robust company.

What type of GPS (Global Positioning System) do you use most often for driving directions in your vehicle: cell phone, or a dash-mounted device?

Hey, C.J. ! I use two. The ones that are company issued and hardwired to the trucks are by CoPilot and supposed to be specifically for a class 8 commercial vehicle. They generally do a good job of keeping us off of roads we’re not supposed to be on such as those with low clearances, or weight restrictions. It has tried to kill me on a handful of occasions. That's why it's important that it should only to be used as a tool and not gospel. What I don't like about it are its cartoonish graphics.A satellite version is as of now, unavailable. This is more than a matter of personal aesthetics, it's about personal safety. When I get to my destination, this is what I see,This is not nearly enough information and that's when I go to plan “B" using Google maps on my faithful Galaxy S8. This is what I need to see,This still isn't enough of what I need to know to stay safe. When we're dispatched, we're given directions to the facility and that's it. What if it has multiple entrances or the driveways are offset from the road so you can't see them? I can't begin tell you what a nightmare it is if you happen to end up in the employee parking lot with 70 feet of truck. It's generally an act of God that will get you out of a situation like that without having to hand the boss and insurance bill because you ran over the front of somebody's car trying to get out of there alive. So, again using Google maps on my S8, I can blow up the overview and see everything I need to see to get in, and more importantly out, of the facility safely.
