What Else To Do With Cats With Flea After Frontline

Can you use a Flea collar and Frontline at the same time?

Yea like the other person said. Flea collars do not work. Advantage or Frontline by itself will do the job. I had a flea collar and you are not supposed to put it and Frontline at the same time because it can harm their skin.

My cat still scratches herself after applying frontline flea treatment about a week ago?

You may have two things going on - one, cats can get an allergic reaction to flea bites, it's called flea bite dermatitis. She may be itching from the bites she got prior to the Frontline being applied. It's an allergic reaction, and often the vet needs to prescribe a short course of steroids or antihistamines to get it out of their systems. It also sounds as though you have fleas in the house, and while Frontline will kill all the fleas that get on your cat, it won't help for the fleas that are in the furniture and carpets. The vet can suggest or sell you a pet-safe flea bomb for your home. In the meantime, buy a flea collar - but not for your cat! Cut off a piece and put it in the bag of your vacuum cleaner, and vacuum thoroughly - the carpets, the corners, the furniture. Wash her bedding and yours in the hottest water you have. This will kill most of the fleas that are living in your home, but it takes a daily cleaning for a week or so to get rid of them all. If it's really bad, only a flea bomb will help.

ETA: Do not use eucalyptus or tea tree oil on a cat. They are toxic to cats, as are most essential oils.

My cat went crazy after I put frontline flea medicine on her?

Last night I put my kitties frontline flea drops on her. This is the third month I've put it on her, I put the same amount I usually do on and she's never reacted strangely before. She started TWEAKING out. Zooming all around the house and I was trying to sleep and she kept jumping on me and attacking me, kinda in a playful way cause she was purring and licking me but I've never seen a cat act this insane in my life. She was bouncing off the walls and attacking everything and her eyes were moving around all quick. She was doing this for hours and this was definately very odd behavior for my cat. I know her very well and there was definatly something wrong. I washed the flea stuff off best I could and after a while she fell asleep and slept almost all day. She's fine now. I looked all over the Internet and saw only one other person who experienced the same thing. And they said they had called the vet and the vet said, "there's no possable way it was from the frontline." but I know it was. I'm scared to give her her dose next month cause the situation made me super worried all night. Kinds made cause it was $50 medicine along with the $60 vet visit when I bought it. So does anyone know why this happened,or have had a similar experience? Any input helps, thanks

Can I give my cat a flea bath after applying Frontline that didn't work?

NO - flea shampoos are more toxic. I suggest you use a flea comb on the cats and then get Advantage or Revolution. Frontline doesn't seem to work as well as it did.

If you really want to put more stuff on the cat's coats, then you need to first wash the cat in Dawn dishsoap (original blue) and dry the coat completely before applying one of the other flea products.

Otherwise you will overdose your cat and the cat may die.

How do you get rid of fleas on cats? Do fleas die in winter?

No they don’t. Flea eggs can remain dormant for 6 months. In the Winter, they just have longer life cycles. To get rid of fleas, you need to do the following:1 Give your cat a bath. Use some anti flea shampoo. After the cat is dried, use a topical anti flea drop (Frypst or Frontline or Advantage), on its neck where it cannot lick it. This has to be done once every 5 weeks. Do NOT use the same brand every time as fleas become resistant after a while. Also, do NOT touch the cat for a whole day.2 Vacuum your house thoroughly. Cover all areas- behind the couch, under the bed etc. If you are beginning your flea control today, the vacuuming has to be thorough. After day one, you can vacuum every other day with less thoroughness. Day 1 is the most important. Vacuuming will remove 60% of flea eggs. A single female flea lays around 50 eggs per day.3 Mop the floor. Use some strong floor cleaner. A rule of thumb is- the worse the cleaner smells, the more effective it is. Again, be careful if you have babies. Similar to vacuuming, day 1 has to be more thorough.4 Wash all your sheets, pillow covers etc using washing machine. Water must be at 55C or more. Use a strong detergent. My cat shares the bed with me. I use a white sheet. When you see flea droppings on the sheet, it is an indication that the fleas are back. Time to repeat steps 2 and 3 again.5 Use a flea comb once every few days to catch the fleas. Be sure to feed the cat and calm it down before you begin this. Most fleas will be found on the neck, forehead and belly. Carefully trap the fleas in the comb and dunk them in a container of slightly hot water (not too hot that your fingernails come off) mixed with dishwasher soap. The flea will drown. Also keep in mind that the comb has to be dried before being used again. Otherwise the cat will begin to lick its fur where the (wet) comb was used, ingesting the soapy water.6 Use a insecticide spray once in 2 weeks on the couch, bed and other places where the cat spends more time. Again, be careful if you have babies.

Can I give my cat a bath if I gave him Frontline about a week ago?

When applying Frontline Top Spot or Frontline Plus, a bath should not be given 48 hours before or after the application. Fipronil spreads through the sebaceous glands and oils on the skin. You are safe to give him a bath. You may want to also contact your vet and ask for a dose of CapStar, its a oral pill that kills any live fleas within an hour of ingestion.

If he does have fleas be sure to treat all animals (dogs and cats) in the house and wash any bedding that he may have slept on that could harbor flea eggs. If he uses the sofa, vacuum it and immediately after you are done, dispose of the bag or contents of the bucket in a garbage bag and be sure the knot the top of it.

Sorry I gave you more than the question asked, but fleas are pain to get rid of and I hate to say it but when you have them just using Frontline isn't enough, you have to "treat" the whole house.

How long after using Hartz flea drops can I use Frontline.?

When did you apply the Hartz (yeah its very bad especially for cats, I cant believe that stuff is still being sold in stores. you have no idea how many cats came into the vet clinic I worked at with neurological damage after the owner used Hartz for an extended period of time)? I would apply Frontline after a couple weeks. Call a local vet and see if they can give you a better time to apply it. You also need to treat your home and yard to kill the fleas. Frontline is safe to use on kittens as long as it is labeled for Kittens.

Can i give my cat a bath AFTER putting frontline on?

frontline won't get off because of a shower, but will you really need give your cat a shower??? is it because the fleas? well the bath won't kill the fleas and won't help or ruin the frontline work?? but what will help is vacuum your house and wash whatever you can wash, or put under the sun light for sometime, the reason i'm sure that the frontline won't get off is because my mom used it on her dogs, and her dogs go to the beach every other day, and sometimes wet themselves in her swimming pool, and still it's working??
i never had a flea problem with any of my cats so i don't know exactly how it will be, but the vet gave them revolution last visit to protect them, so think again about the bath thing will it necessary or not??
if your cat is a short haired then no need, and if he/she long haired then i believe that you can wait for sometime!!
good luck!!

How long after applying Frontline can you bathe your cat?

the packaging should tell you - it's 48 hours I believe.

How soon after applying Frontline on my cat can she go outside?

Why do you want your cat to go outside? Unless you mean a catio. It’s not safe outside for cats. They don’t know to look both ways before crossing the street. Other animals can attack them. They can get locked in sheds, garages, etc and die.
