What Ethnicity Would You Think Hearing These Names

What do you think of when you hear the name Leslie?

Very pretty name although not common at this time. More common in the 70's I would say. Like Linda, Susan, Cathy, Diane, Kim, etc. Doesn't make me think of lesbians at all. I don't know what is wrong with all of these people who would say something like that!

What is the first thing you think of when you hear the name Kevin?

“Dances with Wolves”.

Do you like hearing someone use your name?

Interesting this question as for the first time in my life I realized I must have been through some cultural clash just by calling people by their names.Tell me if this world isn't complicated among humans.Last month a Danish instructor after a few days in class, told me she had a real difficult time in dealing with brazilians as they have this awful habit of calling people by their names without knowing them well.I swallowed the observation in shock and felt very ashamed of myself because indeed we brazilians have the habit of using people's names. And as much as an observer I thought I was, looking back in my life, I goofed this one up badly then.Names are important for us. If I call you by your name it is because I care about you. If I don't care to know your name or call you by your name it is because you are no important in my life. Why do I have to know you well to be ok to call you by your name, I wonder.. And how well then? In my simple mind it gets a little complicate. Do I have to know someone well in order to love or respect? Seems like I need to learn to draw a more precise map of people because of cultural differences...ATTENTION to all Quorans: All apologies if I called you by your name on the comment box!It may happen again though.

What do you think of when you hear the name George?

It’s a solid, sure old name. I checked to see if it was in the names top 10 and it wasn’t. Kings and great leaders often had the name George - like our own George Washington.I surprised myself when I thought about it. I associate the name with an older man, not a young one. It was fun to read the other answers you got. I hadn’t thought of George of the Jungle. Always liked that.

What does it mean when you keep hearing/seeing his name?

See, i used to lyk this boy named jason. But i found out he has a girlfriend. So now i dont like him no more but now all of a sudden i see his name on tv or in books or hear them on tv. What does it mean?

What's the meaning of the name Tyreke?

This is a spelling variation of Tariq which means "he who pounds at the door" in Arabic. This is the Arabic name of the morning star. Tariq was the name of the Islamic military leader who conquered Spain. Check out this website if you want to know about more names.....

Do you think Norah & Noah are to similar for boy/girl twin names?

Too similar. Imagine hearing either of these names yelled from a distance, neither of them would know exactly who you were calling for.

Why do I sometimes hear someone yelling or shouting my name when no one is there?

Why do I sometimes hear someone yelling or shouting my name when no one is there? It happens to many people. It’s a normal function of your subconscious. It isn’t a ghost, or any other supernatural being. It isn’t likely to be a split personality, or any other disorder. It isn’t likely to be a misinterpretation of other sounds in the environment.Your name is one of your prime identifiers of your own personal existence. It’s very important to you, one of the first sounds you really understood you should respond to, and it’s naturally the sound most likely to grab your attention at any time. It isn’t only available to people around you, it’s available to your subconscious as well.People hear their name subconsciously shouted for various reasons. It sometimes happens to me if I’m unexpectedly falling asleep during the day. I become aware that Im waking up and I have a very clear memory of having heard someone shout my name just a second before awaking. They woke me. Who was that?I sometimes encounter it while I’m driving on a boring road. I hear my name shouted, and I realise that for a moment I don’t know what point of my journey I’ve reached. My subconscious is calling me to attention because it thinks I missed a turning. It is absolutely a completely normal thing. My GP suggested that these things happen less if we have a better sleep pattern. If we THINK we have a good sleep pattern, it maybe that we’re not getting deep sleep. Stress, something wrong in the diet, overwork, underwork, the need to achieve, all these can lead to subconscious prompts like being called to attention, especially when you think you’re relaxed.

Can two hearing people who sign give each other name signs that they only use when around each other?

Can two hearing people who sign give each other name signs? Yes.Can a hearing person make up his/her own name sign? Yes.Would either of these procedures be consistent with Deaf cultural norms? No.One of the cultural rules for name signs is that you have to be given a name sign by a Deaf person. Giving yourself a name sign, or having a hearing friend give you one, is considered to be a form of cultural appropriation.I know a lot of hearing people who made up their own name signs when they were in their first-year ASL classes. (I have even heard of colleges where this practice is encouraged. Yikes!) A feature these name signs have in common is that they almost invariably violate ASL name-sign formation rules and thereby label the person as being an outsider to the Deaf community.I never tried to make up my own name sign, more because I never got around to it than because I had a lot of cross-cultural sensitivity back in the days when I was a student. Eventually, and after a lot of social interaction with the Deaf community, a Deaf friend came up with a name sign for me that does follow ASL name-sign formation rules, and which doesn’t mark me as an outsider. That’s the name sign I use.
