What Good Things Did Margaret Thatcher Do

What did Margaret Thatcher do?

I don't want to know people's opinions about how much they hate her or anything I just want fact.

What she did when in power and why. Also what effect it had.

Again please don't use this as a moment to express your hate - thank you :)

Who was Margaret Thatcher?

Margaret Thatcher was elected the first woman prime minister of England in1979. She led England out of a recession, led a war in defense of the British Falkland Islands, confronted unions and the influence of the then Soviet Union which earned her the nickname of "Iron Lady". Her stance on European Union led to her eventual lack of party support and her resignation as prime minister in 1990.

What was your opinion of Margaret Thatcher?

There is no doubt that she made lots of decisions for the better of England. Many people, however may have suffered with these decisions- but some do have to suffer for the righter of all -

Sometimes we must choose between what is easy and right- Thatcher went by that belief. She did what was right over all for the better of her country (really the Queen's country) however many people did get the down low of her decisions.
She did good things, though. I don't have such an opinion on her -she was tough, but i definitely think people picketing at her funeral is pretty terrible.

Was Margaret Thatcher a good Prime minister?

She did some good things, and also some bad.

Her main attribute was her decisiveness. Whatever else you might say about her, once she had made her mind up, right or wrong she never dithered. She was a no-nonsense schoolmarm type of woman.

Many of us `working class` would never have been able to afford to buy our own home if it hadn`t been for her. And for that many millions were eternally grateful.

Mrs Thatcher, the milk-snatcher (she also stopped the free schoolkid`s milk)
And Mrs Thatcher, the handbag basher!
Take that!

What are the best and worst things Margaret Thatcher has done for the United Kingdom?

The best things Margaret Thatcher has done for the United Kingdom? Hard to find any good things at all. The only worthwhile thing I can think of that she did was for the Falkland Islanders, but that’s not the United Kingdom. The worst things Margaret Thatcher did for the United Kingdom? Where does one begin when describing the actions of the most viciously cruel Prime Minister the UK has ever known? Here are four things for a start:the miners’ strike: in her determination to break the miners’ strike she sent in the police and troops, who beat up miners all over the country, she closed down the pits, denied those on strike redundancy money or pension and put those deemed to be active in the strikes on a black list to make sure they would never be employed anywhere again.the poll tax: a tax payable just to be permitted to live. A tax so manifestly unfair that when it was rolled out in Scotland as a pilot for the rest of the UK it resulted in massive civil unrest and refusal to pay.selling off of “Council houses”: housing in the UK is very expensive and historically it has been beyond the reach of manual workers to buy a house. Margaret Thatcher as a matter of policy sold off a large percentage of the government-owned low-income housing, leading to a situation in which very many young people now cannot get housing at all.privatisation: She introduced into politics a principle of privatisation under which State-owned railways, bus companies, electricity supply companies, gas supply companies, the telephone system — and many other state-owned entities as well (eventually even the Post Office) were privatised — sold off at knock-down prices to private individuals who now have a monopoly to run them for profit.

What is the importance of Margaret Thatcher?

I will try and give an impartial answer. With a small list of things that Mrs Thatcher did.She is very important, important meaning of great significance, she was the first Woman Prime Minister, having broken the "Glass Celling" she proved that anyone can become who they want to be if they put the effort in - this was one of her core values. She also led the British against the Argentinian campaign in the Falklands, this was extremely important as they were British Islands that had British Citizens on them who voted in 2013 to stay British, the results were as follows, Turnout: 91.94%, they voted to stay British with 99.8% of the vote. So abandoning the Islanders would have been undemocratic and unfair to let their island get captured by the Argentinians. It is also known that there are up to 1 Billion barrels of Oil in the Falklands, something unknown to her at the time. She also introduced some controversial policies such as the Poll Tax, which is commonly known as Council Tax now.She decided to take on trade unions and introduce legislation to help the public against illegal/unjustified/undemocratic industrial action. She was the longest serving Prime Minister of the 20th centuryShe won three elections. She was very important/significantRather than being ousted by the British people she was voted out by her party and her colleagues.
