What Grade Do You Give This Team Someone Offered To Buy It From Me

Betting: If someone says they'll give me 3:1 odds on the occurrence of an event, what does it mean?

If you’re getting 3:1, or 3 to 1, it means for every dollar you wager, you can win 3. So if you bet $10 and lose, you lose $10, but if you win, you win $30. As someone else has explained, this is an expression of someone’s impression of the probability of an event. If someone is offering you 3 to 1, it means they believe that the even you’re betting on will occur less than one time out of every four (or one time for every three that the event doesn’t occur). If you believe the event will occur more than 1 time for every 3 times it doesn’t, you should take the bet.Be sure you know the difference between 3 to 1 and 3 FOR 1. If you’re getting 3 FOR 1 you lose your bet no matter what, so if you bet $10 and win, you still win $30, but that includes the money you have already bet, so you’re really only winning$20. So 3 FOR 1 is actually 2 TO 1.

Which is correct, "Make an offer to someone" or "Make an offer for someone"?

When you "make an offer to" someone, you are proposing a deal--in some way communicating that you have a trade or a gift, or a proposal, etc.  The "to" simply means the object of the sentence is the recipient.  Joe offered to buy my bicycle (for $50).  The Smiths offered to have me over (for dinner).  Joe and the Smiths are sending a proposal of what they would like to have happen.  The word "to" indicates to whom the offer is sent.  The object of the sentence will be the recipient of the offer.  (I threw in the "for" so you could see the difference)***When you "make an offer for" something you are indicating what you'd like to get from the transaction.  It's a similar idea, but with a very different meaning.  Joe made an offer (to me) for my bicycle of $50.  The word "for" indicates that the subject is hoping to obtain the object. ***So when you make an offer TO someone, you are communicating that you have a deal (or proposal) that you want them to consider.  When you make an offer FOR someone, you indicate that you would like to obtain that person in the transaction or proposal.  Do you see how this mistake could cause a lot of confusion?  Offers go to the recipient, and are for the thing they want exchanged.

How do I convey that I have accepted another offer without burning relationship or bridges?

Dear Dan,It has been a thrill getting the chance to learn more about ABC Technical. What you are doing in the industry is quite impressive. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to interview with your company. The offer you’ve given me is more than generous and I’m grateful for your trust in getting the chance to deliver in the [job title] role.At this time, I’ve decided to take my talents to South Beach where I will be joining Dwayne Wade to win a championship with the Miami Heat.Sincerely yours,LeBron JamesYou’re LeBron Jamesing them…… You’re picking another girl/guy to go to prom with…… It is going to hurt no matter what when you’ve got 4 offers in hand and you can only accept one.Dan Gilbert went nuts when LeBron left. Wrote a nasty letter that was published in the newspaper. Guess what? Gilbert took him back 4 years later because he wanted to win.The same will go for these companies that you are snubbing. They will be upset for a minute but if you decide to join them later they will open up their arms because they want to win too.Being rejected sucks. There is no “nice way” to reject someone. You just have to do it sometimes.Best of luck in South Beach. Hope you hit it big with your new company.

What is the difference between a Qualifying Offer and a Team Option?

A team option is basically what it sounds like. The team has the option on if they keep the player for the extra year, the player has no say at all in it.

A qualifying offer is a little different. Ususally happens with players after the 3rd season of their rookie contract, the team has the option to make a qualifying offer to the player for the 4th season, which is at a predetermined salary based on the rookie salary scale.

If they make a qualifying offer, the player becomes a restricted free agent. Other teams can sign the player to an offer sheet, but the original team has the right to match it and keep him. If no teams make an offer, he signs the qualifying offer and can become an unrestricted free agent next year. If the team doesnt make a qualifying offer he can become an unrestricted free agent right away.
