Unless you plan to flee across a glacier, and ice axe is useless.Ice axes are not designed to be weapons. They are designed to go into ice, and stay there. You might get one jab in before you are eaten alive.I noticed you asked if an ice axe is useful for climbing buildings…….no. Not in the slightest. An ice tool designed for mixed climbing would still provide no advantages. Hands are far better for climbing things. And climbing buildings is a silly waste of energy. If they don’t have stairs, or aren’t easy to scale move on.Also, climbing equipment, be it ropes, cams, nuts, ice axes or tools, skyhooks, etiers, grigris etc don’t make you magically good at climbing. It all requires skill and physcial ability. If you aren’t properly instructed in how something works, don’t use it.

Hmmmm.Not had time to read any of Steph’s novels, and tried to follow zombies more (OK: so I bought Alice in Zombieland).And it’s been decades since I chanced to drive through Forks, WA (however I’ve seen signs for it just North of Vancouver, WA and Portland, OR).Just East of Forks is a SEAL training facility, and Joint Base Lewis-McCord is a little further ESE. The JB has an army museum where your protagonist can steal stuff.Could have graphic novel potential. You’d have to ask an old boss’ husband who is/was a mystery novelist. He knows the market for fiction better, but he did more TV and detective and anthro mysteries (knew Hillerman and is a member of the Association).
