The drop weight is very acurate as long as the drop bar is parallel to the ground. Gravity is constant, so it'll always be consistent. Drop weight takes a little longer. If you only do it once in a while, then get a drop weight machine. It's pretty cheap and great to learn to string with. Youtube has great stringing videos.

This is something I do also. I can get a good accurate weight for pigs, and beef, and also humans.
Although I keep the human side of things to myself.
I am 5'10", and I know my weigh, I can compare myself to others using me as a comparison, against there body type. I also take into account the frame type, and look at if a person has a heavy bone type, or a light frame.
After years of doing this, I am quite proud of the fact I can guess, with in reason the accurate weight of someone.
I never do this with females, as weight is a sensitive issue with many females.
This skill may take you a while to master, but do it and keep this to yourself, and perhaps practice with live stock.

Are doctors scales really accurate?

All scales have the potential for inaccuracy. Many people assume that the doctor's scale is always more accurate than their home digital scale but studies have shown that doctors office and gym scales are no more accurate than those found elsewhere.

Balance beam scales are also subject to the same problems as digital with unlevel floors and such. You need to use your scale on a hard level surface. Leaning differently on the scale will also change readings, because your weight isnt being distributed onto the platform evenly. Stand in a natural upright posture with your center of gravity directly over the scale platform (don't lean too far over).

Your clothes can add several pounds. For me, my weight is often 5-6lbs heavier when I put on clothes and shoes. Your wardrobe may vary.

You shouldn't be concerned with accuracy really, as long as the scale gives repeatable results. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if you go with the scale that said 136 or the on that says 131, as long as you use the same scale consistently. Both scales will measure the same change in weight. So the next day, lets say one scale says 134, and the other says 129. Both are telling you that you lost 2lbs, and thats what the doctor is really looking for - the change in weight since your last visit.

Just use the same scale consistently, and weigh yourself once a week in the morning, before breakfast. Don't worry about the doctors scale, that's their problem.

If you are really concerned with accuracy, you can buy a calibration weight (they're heavy and expensive though) and place it on different scales to see which one is the most accurate. You might be surprised to find that none are as off as you expected, it is just the constant changing nature of body weight (and our insecurities about it) that causes people to doubt body scales so often.

Other values, such as protein content, are also listed, and you will soon become familiar with these, too.
