What If I Can Not Afford Insurance

I can't afford my car insurance...?

Car insurance is a right. We ALL need and we all use it. There was a family in Minnesota that had a bad accident, they got sued and the evil insurance company dropped them when they tried to file. They were sued for everything they had and are now homeless.

Another family in Nebraska spent their last bit of money on the only car they could afford, it did not run as it had been in an accident. The front bumper was pushed through the radiator. They went and got insurance and the company wouldn't fix their car so they could go drive to work because it was pre-existing damage. The man of the family now has to walk ten miles everyday to work, uphill, both ways.

There are tragedies like these stories all over the country. When are we going to wake up and feel some compassion for our fellow man? WE NEED CAR INSURANCE REFORM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What to do if you can't afford health insurance?

It must be more of that phony information going around. If you can't afford health insurance you can't afford $3,800. I guess we'll all end up in jail where they feed, house, educate and have free health care.

I can't afford to buy health insurance. What should I do?

The marketplace (also known as Obama Care, Affordable Care Act, the exchange) has insurance and subsidies (discounts) for people who cannot afford insurance. You will have to state your income (because they will get their subsidy back if you make more money than you claimed). Your premiums may be nothing or next to nothing, but you still have to pay out of pocket for your medical bills until you reach a deductible, then they (tax-payers) will pay a portion of your bills, until you reach a calendar-year out of pocket maximum amount, and then they'll cover the rest. This acts just like most insurance out there. AND I HAVE SEEN PLANS ON OBAMACARE/A.C.A. OFFER LOWER DEDUCTIBLES AND MORE COVERAGE THAN MAJOR GROUP PLANS.If you make zero dollars, especially where kids are involved, you may qualify for Medicaid, which is coverage for extremely poor people. Think “free clinics.” But……in the state I live and others, there is a gap between Medicaid and ObamaCare/A.C.A. It's that space between making some money but not enough to be subsidized on government insurance. If you fall in this gap, I hear you pay for everything out of pocket. Absurd, right?

What if I can't afford my car insurance payments?

I think I do my car insurance a little different than most people. My family goes through a company who pays the insurance people in full. We then pay that company back. I got a new car in January and my insurance went from $25/mo with the '77 Ford Granada I had to over $200/mo with the 2001 Chevy Cavalier. Sad thing is my insurance per month is more than my car payment. Now I can't even afford to pay my insurance. The really bad thing is that I've only paid my car insurance once since January and now my 6 months is coming up and I still owe $1230....I have no idea what to do. Think any of you could help me?

What is it like to not have health insurance?

It’s frustrating, scary, worrisome, demeaning, humiliating, demoralizing and in the end it leaves me mad with frustration and crying from shear sadness that I can’t afford insurance, that I cannot get medical help without bankrupting us.I fall into the “family glitch”, my husband makes to much to qualify for subsidies and not enough to add me to his employer plan. The plan offered through in employer is affordable to him only and we can afford to add our one child. Adding me on is exorbitant and would leave us with very little money for food, gas and incidentals, copays and prescriptions. If I consider a state marketplace plan, it would only be slightly less than the employer plan. How do you propose someone should pay for health insurance that cannot afford it? When that person has explored every possible option to find affordable health insurance, has even considered getting divorced to get insurance, but without an income, it’s a no go. I have applied for many jobs just to get insurance, but have not had any luck finding one. I get offers for short term, part-time or seasonal work, all with no insurance and not enough income long term to commit to paying for health care. Many of these answers are obviously from people that have insurance and are not qualified to answer the question, they just preach how one shouldn’t go without. Until you are standing in my shoes and counting pennies, don’t tell me I should have insurance no matter how much it costs, even it means not feeding or housing my family. Sorry, but feeding and keeping a roof over our heads is way more important.

I can't afford health insurance for myself?

I'm a single mom and I want afford insurance for myself. My job doesn't offer insurance, that I know of. I work at a pizza place. I need help identifying all my options for a cheap insurance that doesn't leave a huge co pay?

If you can't afford health insurance for your family and the government says you make too much...?

You are in the grey zone. So am I. You make too much to qualify for any public assistance but not really enough to live the way people assume Americans are supposed to live. It's awful because when people hear that you don't have "X" they just assume that you aren't trying hard enough.

Try every possible assistance source you can find for your area and check over the published qualification guidelines carefully. At $48K, I doubt you'll find anything that you qualify for, but it never hurts to double check. After that, shop around on-line for private insurance. You might be able to find very basic coverage for a price you can afford, maybe just for physicals and prescriptions. If that fails, speak with your doctors. Most doctors really do want to be sure that their patients are cared for and might be wiling to give you a discounted office visit rate. A lot of doctors also have drug samples that they can give you if you need a prescription.

The ultimate solution, short of more income, would be to find a job that offers better medical benefits.

Home owners insurance can't afford - help?

Considering the fact that a home is much much more expensive than insurance, I don’t understand how a home if affordable but not insurance. There is a small hack though but it still involves paying insurance. If you live in an apartment or on rent – your building is already insured by your builder. So you don’t have to look into buying a structural insurance cover. You can directly opt for a home content insurance cover which will cover only your personal belongings – the electrical and electronic items, jewelry etc. in case of theft or natural disasters. That will bring down the price of your insurance cover. If you live in a bungalow then you have to take a complete coverage and there is no other option.
