What If The Chinese Nationalist Had Won The Chinese Civil War 1949

Why did the Nationalists lose the Civil War in China?

The Nationalists were led by a warlord and their main goal was to loot China. The Nationalist leader Chiang Kai-Shek was only interested in personal glory and crushing dissent. When the Nationalists retreated to Taiwan in 1949, Chiang Kai-Shek installed himself as "Dictator for Life" of that island. He held that position until his death in 1975.

The Nationalists stole money and supplies everywhere they went. China's general population grew to hate them and with good justification. The last major act of the Nationalists before their 1949 escape was to loot every bank in coastal China. The Nationalists were hated and reviled by the Chinese population. The Communists won as much from Chiang Kai-Shek's depravity as from the own military efforts.

If nationalists had won Chinese civil war, would Vietnam and Korean wars have been avoided?

Yes, very likely so.However, the new frontier of the Cold War in East Asia would be on the soil of China. The Soviets would habitually try to create a buffer zone whenever they could, as they always did. And in the scenario that the KMT (they were not “nationalists”, KMT 國民黨 meant Nationals’ Party or Citizens’ Party) won the civil war, the buffer zone would likely include northeastern China (Donbei/Manchuria) and northwestern China (Xinjiang-Inner Mongolia). The United States would try to back the KMT regime (which had no hope to effectively protect themselves against the Soviets) up, by establishing an Asian version of NATO.Considering the Republic of China used to have considerable influences in Indo-China and Burma, the latter especially, communism in Southeastern Asian countries would face much bigger difficulties.Kim Il-Sung would also lack a reliable part of his troops in this hypothetical timeline (3 divisions made up by Chinese Koreans 中國朝鮮族 that fought as part of the PLA in the Chinese Civil War under the CPC’s best commander, Lin Biao: 164th Division of the PLA - 5th Division of the KPA, 166th Division of the PLA - 6th Division of the KPA, 156th Division of the PLA plus some other units - 7th Division of the KPA)JC Hóu's answer to How can you describe China if the KMT still rules today?

What if Nationalist China won the Civil War?

Had nationalist China won the civil war, then It is very likely that here would be a unified Korean peninsula, and perhaps even a democratic Indochina, due to Soviets not being able to support/make claims through China. It is likely that the USSR would try to take border regions (Manchuria) from the nationalist China.

Chinese Civil War 1946-1949?

long running battle between Nationalist Chinese, headed by Chang KaiSheikk and the Communists, headed by Mao Zedong. The fighting actually ran from 1927 until 1949. The why is difficult. Broadly, the KMT, or Nationalists, were fighting to maintain a non-Communist, pseudo-capitalist government, and the Communists were working to establish a worker's state. The Japanese invasion of Manchuria weakened the existing government, and gave the Communists a chance to move powerfully into play, while at the same time still fighting the Japanese.

the results were that in 1949, the KMT and Chiang were forced to retreat off the mainland and to take up "last ditch" positions on the island of Taiwan. The Communists had won, and set about building a Communist state, although they kept claim to Taiwan, too, and have ever since tried to reclaim that island. The Communist Chinese were allied with the Soviet Union (at least on paper), and sought to extend their influence by supporting their neighboring communist-inspired allies, the North Koreans. With Chinese and Soviet aid, North Korea felt bold enough to invade South Korea, thus triggering the Korean War which soon saw US (with various other UN forces) pitted against Communist Chinese forces.

If KMT had won the Chinese civil war, would the USA have supported China both economically and militarily instead of Japan to counter the Soviet’s influence?

Hard to assume. But according to KMT’s historic performance, it would be bad for China.Economically, China would be earlier to integrate into the world economic chain, which makes China richer than now. But China would still have no chance to surpass America’s because of America’s oppressions.Militarily, China would have no hope to develop nuclear weapons under America’s shadow, which means China could't become independent politically, diplomatically and needs to please America first. The leaders of China would need to bow before America’s ambassadors or leaders like Japan’s Abe.That said, the west fears a different-culture China that has potential to become hegemony and can't be conquered. In KMT’s case, China would be just a clown manipulated by Russia and America. From America’s perspective, it surely would have supported China for balancing the geopolitics. But don't have overexpectation. China would be always inferior to America. In that case, the east Asians would be always regarded as second-class subhumen in the west.

What if KMT won the Chinese Civil War?

China would be what they are trying to be now. With a KMT win in 1949. Taiwan stays a backwater agriculture source for China. Japan does not rebuild as quickly with only minimum USA support. North Korea becomes a communist island surrounded by non-communist nations and withers in the ‘50’s. With a pro-USA China at his back Ho Chi Minh after beating the French and starting to conquer South Vietnam, North Vietnam gets invaded from both directions and South Vietnam and North Vietnam become one. Hong Kong reverts to their traditional exotic but second class port status.Jiang Jieshi fails to stabilize the economic situation in China without any further US money. Eventually western nations step in with money and economic support after obtaining significant political concessions (not land or ports!) from Jiang and another attempt is made at democracy. It is unclear if Jiang can stay in power. A freed Zhang XueLiang takes a prominent position in the new strengthened parliament. This leads eventually to a different but Chinese kind of democracy. The unequal treaties canceled in 1943 allow the country led by Zhang to bring the remaining warlords to heel, and the border issues with the USSR, helped by the USSR’s fear of the USA, are settled for the foreseeable future. Mongolia remains with the USSR.Missioners flood China setting up schools all across the country. With an educated population the urbanization of China begins in the mid-50’s.Opium addiction in China continues. Than as always this addiction dampens the growth of China and the people of China. But it doesn’t stop it.With a new bourgeois combined with a revised old bourgeois China explodes as a manufacturing and exporting nation. Western investment is welcomed but strictly controlled. And, with a nation of free Chinese people the arts also explode becoming a preeminent culture force in the world.Ahh, what might of been.

Who fought in the Chinese civil war, who won?

On one side it was the Republic of China, on the other was People's Republic of China. The People's Republic of China took over most of China while the Republic of China escaped and now take up the island of Taiwan.

Where did the defeated chinese nationalists end up?

Taiwan!
