What Industries Did Well During The Coolidge Administration

Wasn't Calvin Coolidge the greatest President in American History?

Some of you may not even know he was even a President, and most of you probably only have a vague idea of his policies from History class. However, he was President during an extraordinary, technological revolution that drove the US economy to incredible heights, the largest economic boom in US History. Americans were living the good life and reaping the economic benefits of the "Roaring Twenties." The stock market was high, everyone had a good job making great money, and was becoming wealthy. However, today no one attributes the economic growth of the 1920s to Calvin Coolidge. Most experts say this was just part of an econmic cycle. In fact, the same exact economic pattern occurred 70 years later during another technological revolution. Why then do many people attribute the economic boom on the 1990s to Bill Clinton? Do you think in 60 years Americans will still feel the same way about Clinton, or will people in their 20s then, only have a vague idea Clinton was even a US President?

Could Calvin Coolidge be considered a libertarian?

No. While he may have had some libertarian values, he was not libertarian in some fundamental ways. While he was pro business, libertarians are neither for or against business. The market will determine success. Sure, Coolidge supported the rights of businesses and people to conduct business, but he did not eliminate agencies like the Federal Trade Commission. This is something a libertarian would strive to do, eliminate government. Sure, the FTC changed their focus to help and expand business, but to a libertarian that is misuse of taxpayer dollars, stolen from the people to support a specific view.Reduction in government interference cuts both ways. You cannot support the free market and some government interference even if it’s supposedly on behalf of businesses. Libertarianism doesn’t quite work that way.

What industries do you think will do well under a Trump Presidency?

I think manufacturing in general will have an upswing. Trump has to deliver something real in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Ohio and Michigan.I think companies like Tesla and anything Peter Theil is involved in will do very well(PT was one of the few real uber rich that openly supported Trump, the Koch brothers are out). Palintir Technologies is getting ready for an IPO very soon.Trump is going to ramp up domestic energy sources in the US considerably(even if there are negative environmental impacts).

Wealth distribution in the 1930s?

One problem of the 1930s was an issue with wealth distribution. How prepared is America from falling under to the same situation today? Did we learn from the past? Please help! Thank you!

What are the cons of living in the 1920s?

Wow, Fruit Sauce gave an amazingly bad answer. Stock market crashed in 1929. Anyway, one bad thing was this was considered the Dead Ball Era in baseball, when offensive numbers were really low due to low quality, dirty baseballs which led to decreased visibility for batters.

Other cons include Supreme Court not protecting individual rights against corporate interests. Also perhaps the most boring presidential administration of all time-Calvin Coolidge, and popularity of black face in "talkies" thanks to Al Jolsen.
