What Is A Good Fertilizer For A Zoysia And Bermuda Mixed Lawn

Can you mix two different kinds of fertilizer?

I would apply at 1/4 strength that's for sure. I would only fertilize summer turfs - Bermuda , zoysia, st Augustine.
Its getting hot and that's a bis steak dinner to the grass. be careful.
If it was me I'd only use the bug, 19-0-6 myself. Still be careful about this time of year and the turf type. never feed fescue at this time.
Your going to have a huge nitrogen content either way and that's for growth.......

What weed killer can i use on my zoysia sod?

Hello Susie..... What you are gonna need for a warm season grass such as your Zoysia, is a product made by Ortho called Weed B Gone "Max" for Southern Lawns. Some of the warm season grasses are very susceptible to burn with herbicides containing 2,4D. Ortho has taken the guess work out of having to figure out just which one is appropriate with the above product. If you decide to use Weed B Gone max, you will need to "MAKE SURE" it says for "southern lawns" (they have more than 1 type of weed b gone product). Beings that you are in Texas which is primarily a warm season turf state, any Walmart, Home Depot, or Lowes garden center will carry this product. It comes in a couple different styles from a concentrate you mix yourself, or a ready to spray hose connected container.. Choose which one is easier for you.. Below is a very good video contained in the link about this product, so click onto this site and then onto the video link contained within. This will explain the process in detail..... Good luck and here is the Weed b Gone max for southern lawns link......

** Added info: Oops! I just noticed at the end of your question you are talking about the weed possibly being crabgrass. If this is the case, then the product I mentioned above will not work. It is only for "broadleaf" weeds. You will need to get a crabgrass preventer at your local garden center. However, this lawn pest is hard to control once it gets established. You will need to apply the pre-emergant crabgrass control in the fall and then again in the early spring. Timing must be just right in order to keep crabgrass at bay...Make sure to read the directions and be sure it is ok to apply to zoysia grass.......

What is the best lawn grass for Ohio, Zone 5?

Zoysia and Bermudagrass are warm season grasses and grow best in southern regions with extended warmer temperatures. They will grow in areas with a cooler climate, but will stay dormant (brown) longer in the spring and earlier in the fall.
The major upside is they are very good at withstanding higher summer temperatures and require less water to survive and can spread easily in good soil. Zoysia and Bermudagrass can be difficult to grow uniformly in an existing lawn (reseeding/plugs are difficult to get rapid germination & growth).
Turf Type Tall Fescue (most newer cultivars of Tall Fescue blend well with existing turf species and are more fine bladed than previous cultivars) is a cool season grass which has decent drought tolerance. Your lawn will be greener for a longer period of time with Tall Fescue.
Adding a sprinkler system to your lawn was a great idea especially in summer to maintain grass during hot summer months. Proper watering during this critical time is essential for cool season grass to survive.
Personally, I would try overseeding with a mixture of Tall Fescue & Perennial Ryegrass (90/10 or 80/20) You will get more rapid germination. Tall fescue is cut at a higher height 3-4" during summer. This will help protect the soil from weeds and keep it cooler. The best time to reseed is fall but in can be done almost as well in late spring. Kentucky Bluegrass is also good, but will require more watering & fertilizer and is not as drought resistant as Tall Fescue.
If you reseed in spring you will have to eliminate as many weeds as possible with a postemergent compatible with reseeding (NOT WEED-B-GONE) which can be somewhat expensive, depending on the number of weeds. Then after seeds have germinated and developed apply a pre-emergent for crabgrass. You will still get some crabgrass & will need to eliminate this with a postemergent.
Fall reseeding is alot easier & combining with core aeration can produce great results.
Another note, If you have too much shade, it may be difficult to grow tall fescue. Try a shade mix with Red, Hard or Chewings Fescue. These species are better adaptable to shade.

What is the best way to keep grass alive with minimum water?

All good answers, including the collapsed ones. It’s helpful to understand that the healthiest grass exists in the healthiest soil. One thing that I don’t think anyone mentioned is topdressing. A dairy farmer probably has to be interested in grass because her cows eat it. What other professions might necessitate an interest in grass?

All other livestock farmers depends on grass in some way or other. Beef, sheep and goat farmers and now even poultry farmers that have reverted to the old method of free-ranging their stock. In addition, all cereal grains are grasses so now we can add to the mix the professionals that plant rice, maize (corn), wheat, barley and all the other crops of that nature. Not to forget landscapers that put down and maintain grass lawns, sporting fields or as deterants to soil erosion, or just for aesthetic reasons.Bamboo, the fastest growing and one of the most useful grasses not used widely for consumption (bamboo shoots are edible and delicious) is recognized as a very bio-friendly product because it grows fast and has a small carbon footprint.Grasses are by far the most important crops to humans, so it would be better to ask: “What profession does not benefit from grass” because without them we probably would not have developed as a civilization to know how to ask such questions.Humans feasting on grains for at least 100,000 years

Gardening: I'm watering my brown dry grass lawn. Will it eventually turn green again? Any tips to bring it back?

Depends on why it's brown. Cool season grass goes naturally dormant in the summer heat.  Watering it will keep it going, and is necessary -- life support, if you will.  But it isn't a bad thing, that it's semidormant in boiling temperatures. Warm season grass on the other hand goes naturally dormant in the winter.  It's brown because it survives that way, as protection from the winter temperature.  It's a tender grass that can't take ice, or frost, or snow.  Zoysia is an example.  If you live in New York and your neighbor's grass is brown in December, think Zoysia. Cool season grass on the other hand greens up and grows fastest in chilly temperatures.  In the Northeast, combined with rainy spring and fall days, that's the conditions cool season grass -- Kentucky Bluegrass for example -- thrives in. Going back to your question, some things were meant to be.  If you're unhappy with the brown grass in Summer, and you're in New Jersey, you should move South.  If you're unhappy with the brown grass in Winter, and you're in California, you should move North.  But only half the year.  The rest of the year, you'll be fine.

How can you get grass seed to grow this time of year?

We sowed in the fall on dirt and it didn't come up. We tried fertilizer and watering. The water company dug an entire ditch that kept settling and over time they filled it. It is now completely like a dirt plot. Most of the dirt is hard and clumpy almost like rocks. We are trying to get it to have a nice even look. What kind of grass is the easiest to get started? How should we seed in April?
