What Is A Good Prop For My Debate In World History That Represents Thomas Hobbes

Why do some Americans resist quoting the entire Second Amendment?

1.  Americans do not "resist" quoting the entire Second Amendment.  For some, it's a bit long, and they simplify it to "keep and bear arms", but I don't see any resistance to reading the entire Amendment.I suspect you really mean, "The Amendment talks about the arming the militia, and no gun rights person brings that up".Well, in fact, gun rights people often do talk of militias.2.  Daniel Douglas is correct in quoting D.C. v. Heller (2008).  http://www.supremecourt.gov/opin...   If you are interested in the issue of whether guns should only be part of a well-regulated militia, vs. having two individual rights to keep and to bear arms, this is THE definitive analysis.  It is worth reading the entire opinion, and also the dissenting opinion. The decision of the Supreme Court, written by Justice Scalia, is a meticulous parsing and analysis of every word in the Amendment, an analysis of the history of the debate and passage of the Amendment, a corollary to arms rights in state constitutions written contemporaneously, and a tie to the rights to keep and to bear arms in English history leading to the 1789 American debate.  And, if you dislike Scalia's opinion, there is Justice Stevens' dissent to read.As both Daniel and also Kevin Baker note, the first ("militia") clause is there to proffer an example as to why the right is needed, but it does not limit the second ("keep and bear") clause.  Historically, and as Scalia wrote for the Court, keeping arms and bearing arms are INDIVIDUAL rights.Of course, such individual rights to keep and bear arms would be necessary to meet the requirement that every man be ready to form the local militia and defend the community or the state.  (That is, every 18-44, able-bodied, white man.)  But the right is not exclusive to just militia service.A key historical point is that the English from time to time disarmed all the civilians except for those of one faction.  (e.g., protestant, or royalist, etc.)  That faction formed militias to enforce the government's will upon the people and to suppress dissent.  You might think of them as the Gestapos of 16th, 17th, & 18th century Britain.  It was critically important in forming American militias, that they cannot be "select militias", enforcing just one governmentally-approved opinion.  For that to happen, the militia had to include ALL men.  And ALL of them had to keep and be prepared to bear arms.

What is a controversial opinion you have that you wouldn't share openly in real life, but would share on Quora under anonymity?

These opinions will generally get more controversial as you continue to read this answer:Circumcision is uselessWhat’s the point of branded clothing? There needs to be separation of state and church. The concept of cultural appropriation is ridiculous. What’s the point of having such a large military budget?Debating whether one religion is right over another, or that there is no divine being is absolutely useless as religion hinges on faith which is when you believe something to be true, yet have no evidence to support your claims.I’m pro-abortionWe should never censor the right to speak.I understand that obesity or other weight related issues can be caused by a plethora of reasons; however, I do not agree with how many people want this to become an accepted norm, and that this is perfectly normal.Adult Obesity Causes & ConsequencesAt birth we are all equal; however as we grow up, there starts to be inequality based on circumstances, personality, how quickly one can memorize information, etc.I believe in Thomas Hobbes’s vision of humanity; that humans are inherently violent, and the only thing stopping us from committing said violence is the punishment from society we live in.In custody battles, the parents should be anonymous, and should only be referred to as parent 1 and parent 2.I’d proritize the life of a human being over an animal.I believe that shooting Harambe was the right choice as the baby who was stuck with the gorilla was in danger.Prostitution should be legalized.Being a member of certain professions does not make you a "hero." your acts make you heroic not your clothing.I think maybe we should start teaching trades to younger kids. A kid that has no skill with calculus might just be the best electrician or plumber you've ever seen. But he won't know that until he's already had to sit through years of feeling stupid because he doesn't understand hard mathematical or language concepts.I don’t believe in the idea that anyone under the age of 18 should have the ability to have an operation to change their gender.Feminism is currently broken: Disregard the dictionary definition of feminism, and actually look at the opinions of feminists have, or at least the ones that gain the most amount of attention apart from famous individuals such as Emma Watson and Michelle Obama.

Is being a compulsive liar hereditary?

Is being a compulsive liar hereditary?A genetic predisposition is an increased likelihood of developing a particular disease based on a person's genetic makeup. A genetic predisposition results from specific genetic variations that are often inherited from a parent. A genetic characteristic which influences the possible phenotypic development of an organism within a species or population under the influence of certain environmental conditions.Social environments can play a significant role in the development of pathological lying. Emotionally or physically abusive home situations can induce lying. The prospect of power can make individuals resort to extremes. These people may resort to lying to maintain power or control over others. When they lose power, they may resort to more lying. When they gain power and success from lying, it is thus reinforced. People may develop a high power need due to biological factors, social factors, or an interaction between them.People with personality disorders may lie compulsively. Other personality disorders that can consist of persistent lying include histrionic, narcissistic, borderline and compulsive with each having genetic predisposition. The causes of Narcissistic Personality Disorder is thought that their are inherited genetic defects thought to be responsible for many cases of NPD. Contributing environmental factors may include: childhood abuse or neglect. As with most mental-health disorders, narcissistic personality disorder does not have one single definitive causeThere is research showing that borderline personality disorder runs in families. This is likely due to a number of factors. First, some part of BPD is due to genetics; if these are your biological kids and they have inherited a certain combination of genes from you, they may be more at risk to develop BPD.So where does this leave us on how to answer your question? If I had to take a SWAG (scientific wild ass guess), I would say about 60 to 80% of being a compulsive liar is environmental and the remaining is genetic.
