What Is Happening To My Monroe Piercing

What should you do for a swollen Monroe piercing?

Go to your piercer. Piercers are trained to deal with any problems that occur after a piercing is carried out, they can advise you on correct care to reduce swelling and tell you whether you need to consider different jewellery. If it's infected you may need antibiotics but be aware that doctors are often not well educated about piercings and may tell you to remove the piercing, this is a bad idea as it can trap infected material under the skin if the piercing closes up.

What is a Monroe piercing?

A Monroe piercing is a lip piercing that is placed above the upper lip in emulation of a beauty mark. If the piercing is on the left side of the face, it is usually called a Monroe, after the famous actress Marilyn Monroe who had a birthmark (beauty mark) on that side. If the piercing is done on the right side of the face, it is sometimes called a Madonna, after the singer who has a beauty mark on that side. This type of piercing is typically done on women.

When can i change my monroe piercing?

You should really wait for your piercing to fully heal before you change the jewelry. You could cause more damage than good. I definitely don't recommend a plastic piece of jewelry either. Those are cheap, porous and can harbor bacteria.
We used to tell customers, Monroe's can take 4-6 weeks to heal. That's not very long to wait for new jewelry, really. If you absolutely must change the ball, and just the ball, visit your piercer and ask them to do it for you. (We used to use a slightly bigger ball to allow for swelling of the face and to ensure the skin didn't swell over the jewelry. Maybe now that the swelling has gone down, it makes the ball appear bigger on your face?)
If the swelling is down, call your piercer s/he can determine if you're really ready to change jewelry or not.

Good luck!

Is my monroe piercing infected?

I just got my monroe piercing 6 days ago and love it! But I noticed today that it felt really irritated towards the end of the day and all day crusted up more then it has before. I got home and washed my face and did a sea salt soak on it. It is pussing some, not green though but it is red and swollen. Inside my mouth above the jewelry I can feel what seems to feel like a little lump inside my skin with my tongue. Can anyone tell me if this is a sign of infection? I have had other piercings, not on the face, but none have ever gotten infected so I am not sure.

Pus pocket inside my monroe piercing..?

Popping it will just mean a scar, and it probably would have added to the infection. Infections are relatively easy to get rid of, but they really should be treated from the get-go. The longer they're left, the harder they are to get rid of.

You have two options here. You can either go to your piercer and have them make an accurate assesment on what is going on, or you can try to combat the infection yourself.

To do that, you need sea salt, cotton balls or gauze, alcohol-free mouthwash, pure chamomile tea bags and some aloe vera.

You'll need to do a saline soak twice a day. Mix 1/3tsp sea salt to 1 cup boiled and cooled water, and use cotton balls or gauze to gently soak the outside of the piercing, wiping away any crusties or pus. Saline will flush out any gunk and kill off the bad bacteria, while keeping the good stuff. It also soothes and promotes healthy healing. You can gargle the rest of the saline when you're done.

You should rinse your mouth out with the mouthwash after meals. Choose one that has no alcohol in it, as alcohol can be cytotoxic to piercings and will dry it right out.

In the evenings, brew a cup of chamomile tea. Use the tea bag once it has cooled to gently press against your piercing. Some people find chamomile soaks to be tedious but I think they're great and do them with all my piercings. Before bed, dab a little aloe vera to the outside of the piercing.

This should clear up the infection after a few days to a week, but if it doesn't you will definitely have to resort to seeing a piercer. Goodluck!

Is my Monroe piercing crooked?

I got a Monroe piercing yesterday. Ever since then, it feels like the back of my piercing is crooked. It feels like it's tilted to one side so the other side is digging into my gums and catching on them when I talk or eat. It doesn't seem like I'm swelling that bad and I'm worried that it's going to stay like this even when it's healed.

The only reason that I believe it would stay like this is because it's felt this way ever since he pierced it. It's only gotten more irritating over time. I really don't want to have to take it out and get it pierced again cause I really like it. :(

Someone please help?!

Monroe Piercing healing over inside my lip what can i do?

i had my lip pierced about 8 days ago. at first the normal swelling and pain was there and i was ok with that. about 3 days ago i noticed a lil white piece of skin covering half of the back inside my mouth. i thought this is normal it was just skin dieing off. the next day even more swelling was there and looked like the entire back was covered but i could still push it out, so went back to the piercer and without looking at it enouraged me it was totally normal. the next day which is today the entire back of it is in my lip and unable to push it out of the even smaller white circle covering the backing. now im freaked out. what do i do? is it normal for this to be happening? i read so many different sites some say it is ok and some not and the professional piercing site doesnt even involve this question at all.
