What Is High School Really Like

Whats life after high school really like?

Life after high school is so much different. There is drama with your social lives because it is really all you have. You tend to focus a lot more on it. A lot of people change after high school, some don't for awhile, but if everyone was the "life of the party" and a social life, it would be a pretty boring world. No one would write books or be on TV if they were out partying all the time.

I feel like kids in high school spend most of their time trying to be liked or like someone else. After high school is when you discover who you really are. Some people discover earlier than others, but you will start to take interest in things you never did before.

College will be a fun time for discovering yourself and other people, if you choose that path. Spend some time now thinking about who you want to be and what you need to do to get there, Im sure right now you feel your social life is important, but post-high school and college the people you spend time with are always close friends and family, REAL friends. Not the ones you just go to school with.

Enjoy doing what you think is fun, playing cards, etc. Going to parties will get old, unless you want to be one of those 30 yr olds who parties too much, most of the fun I have is getting together with friends.

I don't think you are being anti-social. Just the fact that you are asking this very deep question shows a lot about your intelligence and character. You don't feel the need to party and act childish and want to know whats next. Thinking like that will get you far in life and I think you will have a bright future and build great relationships soon.

You can make whatever you want of your life after high school.

Is high school really like in the movies?

High school is nothing like you see in movies. The first day of school everyone will be very quiet (some people talk a lot, but there are few of those lol). Around the second day more people will start to talk. And about the 3rd to 4th day everyone will be getting comfortable with new teachers and classmates. Some teachers get nervous as well not just students. If you get lockers, usually you are not allowed to hang in the locker hall for like 20 mins like you see int he movies lol. Teachers tell students to get to class. They give you about 5 minutes for lockers and to get to the other classes depends how big the school is. It's natural to be nervous, but don't be too nervous. In about one week you will be asking yourself, ''why was i so nervous about''?

Schools are very strict about bullying. So, enjoy high school get good grades, makes lots of friends and have fun :)

I feel like i'm gonna fail high school. i would really like some encouragement.?

You are not trying at all if you don’t even attempt to do your school work.
It is going to take a drastic change in your behavior to move forward.
You have to want to change to make it work.
You need to get a meeting with your teachers and tell them you want to move forward and catch up. You have got to mean it. Ask them to help you set up a plan so you can pass all classes this semester. Don’t whine, don’t feel sorry for yourself. You have messed up and you need to want to get your act together. if teachers see that in you they will help.

Quit stay up to all hours of the night. Plan a bed time and stick to it. Even on the weekends.
Write out a schedule. Post it on your wall. Have alarms on your phone,
Plan time for music, plan time for friends. Plan time to study.
Use the weekend to catch up on school work.
Write out what needs to get done each week and each day for classes.
Good study skills, time management skills and organization is needed. And until you are in a routine you need to make drastic steps towards these skills. Writing it all down and posting it will get you there.
Not to mention if you want to go to college you won’t last without these skills.

Learn how you study best. Learn how to study efficiently and effectively for you. If my daughter is 20 minutes early to dance class, she can kick out a couple of math problems while she waits. If she is stuck on history work, she can go to English and then jump back to history. My son is better off sticking to one subject and plowing through until it is done before moving on. He likes quiet and doesn’t do well if he is disturbed. He gets very focused and when you interrupt him he looses all concentration.

Music is a big part of your life, but if you can not stop it from interfering with what needs to be done, remove it from your life for a couple of weeks. Start a good routine for school work. Get into a good habits.
You can have music . But you must have balance.

What are american high schools really like?

All that stuff is "real" to some extent, but the movies exaggerate everything... a LOT.

There are lots of school dances... almost every school has a semiformal Homecoming dance in the fall (football season), a Winter Formal, and a Junior/Senior prom (the most formal). There can be other, more casual dances too... they are all fundraisers for the student association.

There are cliques, but it's typically not as extreme as what's in the movies. They don't all dress like twins, and they do make friends amongst each other. It's not like the "jocks" and "nerds" are sworn enemies for life.

Almost every school has cheerleaders - mainly for the football team, but some do it year-round for other sports. They don't wear their uniforms every day - just on game days and pep rally days. It's a school spirit thing (there's a game today, let's all get excited!)

Not every school has lockers. Some schools don't allow them, because kids can hide contraband in them. If they don't have lockers, then they have to lug around their 30 lb backpacks all day long.

In a big school / big town, there will be parties all the time. Somebody's parents are always out of town, somebody is always having a birthday, etc. But in small towns, it's not nearly as common.

Yes, football games can be a BIG deal in many schools. It's a big deal for the town, too. It depends on the size of the place, some school stadiums can accommodate several hundred people, and the people do come. In small communities, they just have a few sets of bleachers and not too many people attend.

What is online school really like?

I do online schooling, but I do it through VCS. Every online school is different.
I like it a lot. I don't really have any permanent due dates, but they tell me when stuff should be do.
If we turn it in later, it's not counted as late and we don't get points taken off, but it's good to follow those dates, just so you don't get too far behind.
I can finish my work whenever I want, as long as it's before the last day of school.

You can do your work at your own speed. At my school, sometimes you can get a week's worth of work done in a day or two. In my opinion, I think online schooling is much better than public schooling.
My online school is free and everyone's very friendly.
Sometimes they don't offer some of the courses you may want to take.
Other than that, it's pretty good (:

What is highschool like?

DO NOT LISTEN TO DAVE.
High School may seem scary, but it wasn't at all for me. I entered on my first day last year, I see all these taller people, and I got scared. But then I found my friends and we had a great first day. People do not put people in trashcans or anything like that. And do not drink or do drugs. That is the worst thing you can do. Stay with nice people who you like and not creepy people. If you get a BF, keep it to kissing and hugging. You do not want to risk having sex.

It will be a lot of fun, and make sure you take a lot of AP and Honors classes!

What's high school like in the US?

This was what my average weekday was when I was in high school:4:20 am - Wake up to go to morning practice for my swim team (Tuesdays and Fridays)6:40 - Finish practice on morning practice days, or wake up on non-morning practice days7:05 - Arrive at school, park my car, walk in, sit in front of some lockers with some friends and finish up any homework I didn’t do, or study for any quizzes/tests I had that day. Here’s what a typical school hallway looked like:7:20 - First period starts8:05 - First period ends, we have morning announcements and the Pledge of Allegiance8:15 - 2:10 - Periods 2, 3, 4, LUNCH (10:50 - 11:40), 6, 7, 82:15 - 2:30 - Last period ends, hang out with some friends, talk a little bit2:30 - Drive to swim practiceClasses in high school are very similar between students, but there is some variation depending on which electives you’re interested in. In my senior year, I took English (required), IB Chemistry (I was in the IB Program), IB History, Spanish, MVC/Diff Eq, IB HL Math, and Theory of Knowledge (which is kinda like philosophy/epistemology). In class, I think it would be similar to what you experience in Britain: the teacher lectures for most of the time usually, then we might have some activity, then we’re assigned some homework (usually reading from a textbook and taking notes, or doing worksheets, or writing essays). We also had open lunch, which means that during the lunch period (10:50 - 11:40), could go off campus and walk/drive to a restaurant, as long as we were back in class for 6th period.Clubs usually met either during lunch or after school. I was a part of a few clubs, including math team and It’s Academic, which were both pretty fun!
