What Is Pangasius Hypophthalmus And How Do You Pronounce It

Why do some people pronounce 'did you' as 'dɪdʒu:', and ‘that you’ as ‘ðætʃu:’?

It's palatalization. Super common process when you've got a consonant before a palatal glide. A lot of words with palatal consonants like sh and zh used to once be pronounced as an alveolar sibilant followed by a palatal glide. For example, the word “measure” used to be pronounced meh-zyur, but zyur slowly became zhur due to palatalization. All words that end in -tion and -cian used to be pronounced syon, as in French. Slowly, those became palatalized as well, as in the words “motion” and “electrician.”

Is the basa fish considered to be halal?

Allaah has said that anything that lives in water, whether freshwater or saltwater or any salinity in between, is all halal.Basa live in water. It is considered seafood. All seafood is halal.I thought that I would add this. While Basa as a fish is halal, one needs to be careful where it is sourced. Much Basa is farmed and the conditions are less than what can be considered healthy; they can apparently be farmed/aquaponics in rivers that experience significant effluent run-off from fields drenched with farmers chemical fertilizing of crops and effluent that contains fecal matter from apparently both humans and animals. Thus the Basa themselves as fish are halal but the conditions under which they are farmed run counter to everything Islamic. Caveat emptor-buyer beware! Always ask what fish you are getting even in ethnic restaurants that have fish specials where they do not specify the type of fish, most times it is Basa.I avoid Basa. It does taste good, but if not wild caught and if farmed, I pass. I might be wrong but I pass anyway.

A☠Ω

I asked an hour ago and STILL no answers. please help?

Your ten gallon is a mess. You have a coldwater, semi-aggressive, and tropical community mixed in a tank that is far too small. Nothing can be added.

You need at least a twenty gallon aquarium for just the oranda. Goldfish are coldwater fish and do not belong with tropical fish.

Do you have any idea how large those catfish get? They also prefer to be kept in schools. A single catfish needs at least a 10 foot aquarium.

The mollies are the only fish that you have that are compatible with the ten gallon.

"It's all good"- No, it's all ridiculous. Always complete research on any animal you think of purchasing. You should never impulse buy an animal.

~EDIT~ It is an outdated myth that fish grow to the size of their environment. If your dad had kept up with the hobby he might know this. Fish kept in tanks that are too small will stunt. Stunting does not imply that they stop growing naturally. It means that the fish's body is not allowed to grow anymore, but their organs continue to grow. This causes the slow, painful death of the fish. A stunted goldfish may live for four years, which is truly a shame. Goldfish may live 12-20 years. I have over thirty or so foot long comet goldfish and all but one is above the age of ten.

Your added details are a slap in the face to good advice. I think it's time you picked up a book or googled proper care on your fish. Your dad is passing on outdated misinformation. Take what people say with a grain of salt. In your dad's case take about twenty pounds worth.

What is basa fish called in Malayalam?

Basa is a cheap alternative to Seer Fish/Naiee meen.Basa is so cheap that it sells Retail price of 150rs - 200rs when compared to 750-900rs for Seer Fish.Like Seer fish, Basa has just one single spine that can be easily removed. The fish meat is super flaky and does not have any inherent taste in itself.Being a malayalee, I hate to see eat this fish. Sad to see that even 5* hotels also using this fish for the sake of profit.PS: basa is not bred in india. It is imported from Vietnam, where it breeds in Mekong river basin.Meknong river is one of the most polluted river in the world.Think twice before you eat Basa.

How long could catfish survive out of water if you kept them wet?

Catfish are actuallty an order of fish (Siluriformes) (Wiki: Catfish), so there would be as many answers to that question as there are species in that order. But one could devide the question in two; part one concerning air-breathing catfishes and part two concerning all aquatic breathers that relies on the oxygen in the water (Aquatic respiration).1 - Air breathers: This is where the question becomes difficult to answer. Assuming that the fish would be able maintain their oxygen needs through breathing air, then they can survive for a while depending on any species specific physiology. If the humid air/ keeping them wet, is sufficient, the next challenges for survival of the fish I presume would be acid-base regulation and/or osmoregulation. The acid-base regulation might be offset in an airbreathing fish as its capability for getting rid of CO2 is changed, this could be a big problem for the fish. The possibility for the fish to do any osmo regulation would probably also be changed in air, which is the faster acting of the two - I do not know. But a guess would be that we are talking minutes to hours of survival for "regular" air breathing fish. Ofcause there is always exceptions, take Walking catfish, which presumably can stay alive for as long as it is moist (See link).2 - Water breathers: This is easier to answer. These guys and girls would perish fast if held in air, as they would unable to maintain an oxygen uptake large enough to fuel the basic requirements of life (i.e. they suffocate).
