What Is The Best Book To Learn About Psychology

Best psychology books?

I too am a fan of psychology and there is a wealth of reading available on the subject. There are, however, many different topics within psychology to choose from and I also find that one cannot study psychology without crossing into sociology as well.
I especially enjoy the topics of "abnormal psychology" as well as the various ways cultures have treated their mentally ill throughout history. Michael Focault is an excellent author on the subject, if a bit dense. Also check out the "True Crime" section of your bookstore for some excellent insights into the various pathologies that drive criminals and murderers. With regard to the history of psychology, look for books about things like "Bedlam" and "The Ship of Fools".
And then, there are the kooky classics like Freud, Jung, Kant, Rousseau, Voltaire and even Aristotle and Plato. There's some crossover between the world of psychology and the world of philosophy. Enjoy!

What is the best psychology book out there?

Invitation to Psychology by Carole Wade and Carol Tavris
The Social Animal by Elliot Aronson
Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion by Robert Cialdini

The first book is a general psychology book that covers a lot of great topics and sub-divisions of psychology and the other two are about social psychology which is the branch of psychology that focuses on people, their behaviour, how they're influenced, how they communicate, relationships, aggression and a lot about how people think, behave and what factors cause that type of thinking and behaviour. You'll never see people the same way after reading these.

What is the best book to learn the basics of psychology?

I agree with Esa Knaapi that introductory psychology textbooks are the best way to get an overview of the field. The most recent editions of Introduction to Psychology books (by David Myers, book is one of the best sellers) are very expensive. Content at the introductory level does not change nearly as rapidly as research in the journals; buying an earlier edition of a used textbook can save you a lot of money. Sometimes textbooks can be rented. There is a free (open access) introductory textbook here: Introduction to Psychology - 1st Canadian EditionI have not read through it; the table of contents shows coverage of all the topics expected in a beginning course.I would not recommend reading ‘classics’ in psychology (Freud, Jung, and so forth). Those tell you very little about what psychologists study now.

Which psychology book is the best for beginners?

“Don’t just read the easy stuff. You may be entertained by it, but you will never grow from it”Reading a psychology book isn’t enough.Applying the principles into our daily life is what makes the book the best book. Here are some best psychology books for beginners which I found to be changing the way we think.Blink - Malcolm Gladwell. One of the best psychology book that I have ever read. The book is a collection of many short stories showcasing how people are able to develop a sense about things, it becomes one of the more interesting books on the unconscious because of this.Thinking, Fast and Slow - Daniel KahnemanThis book challenges the various cognitive biases people subconsciously possess. The book states that our mind are composed of two parts - an instinctive and primal section, and a more critical and rational section, together with their manifestations in decision making will give you an “aha” moment of relatability.Emotional Intelligence: Why it can matter more than IQ - Daniel GolemanAnother one of my personal recommendations. You may have noticed in recent years the fading of the IQ, and the emergence of this new theory of EQ or emotional intelligence. As the name implies emotional intelligence is our ability to identify and handle not only our own emotions but the emotions of others, and our ability to handle situations according to these principles. The happiness hypothesis - Jonathan HeidtThe author brings to light the beliefs of ancient systems and puts them under the scrutiny of modern science. The book shows the flaws and misconceptions of various systems and practices as well as their truths. Whilst offering a tangible solution to the many vices and privations which trouble the modern person.Thanks.

THE BEST one is "The Road Less Traveled" by M. Scott Peck, M.D., a psychiatrist (now deceased). He wrote the book in 1978, and it set all new records on the ny bestseller list for fiction and nonfiction at that time. He subsequently wrote many other books which themselves are fantastic reading.
