What Is The Best Way To Get My Cat And New Dog To Live Together Peacefully

Can i have a dog and a cat together??

I have been thinking of getting a persian cat and a pomeranian dog together. a pomeranian's a tiny, very active dog. some big persian cats might be about the same size as an average adult pomeranians.

What i really want to know is:
1) will they be able to adjust together and become friends?
2) If i get them when they're at the kitten/puppy stage, will that make it easier to accept each other?
3) if i get them when they're older (not full adults, but not babies anymore), wold it be more difficult for them?
4) If i get one first, then the other, would the first one be territorial?

I know it can be done, I've seen people have both dogs and cats, who play with each other, but i don't know how i should go about it, or even if the breeds make a difference.

thanks in advance!

Can a bengal cat and a maine coon cat live together peacefully?

Depends on how much effort you will put in introducing them to each other.

If they are adult I would recommend a good cat behavior book to have help handy if the cats show any misbehavior or even aggression.
There are also good references within the internet, but I prefer a book since it has an index which helps me finding the required info right away without having to go through several web sites listed by google until I found what I need.

We could give you advise here but out of a blue it's difficult to give the correct advise since all cats show different reactions if introduced to an other cat they have to share their home with.

Is there a way to peacefully end your dogs life?

My dog is 13 years old and has bladder stones and heart disease. He has a really bad cough that the vet says is from his enlarged heart pressing up against his esophagus. He still sometimes gets pretty frisky and wants to play around, but I am very concerned about when the time actually comes he will need to go. He is horrified of the vet and I don't want his last memory to be in someplace that he hates. Is there a way I could give him an overdose of something that would just make him fall asleep at home? I want his last memories to be relaxing here at home with me petting him...not in the stinky vets office. I don't want to take a chance of him suffering with an overdose though, so I need some good ideas of something that will just let him fall asleep and stop breathing. Serious answers only please.

Is it possible to have dogs and cats living peacefully in one home?

Yes. I had a cat called Minouche (which is basically French for kitten, kitty, something like that). But Minouche was getting on a bit, about 12, I’d given up smoking for a year and my wife finally let me get a dog, as that was the deal, if I gave up smoking I could get a dog. So I went to the PDSA shelter in Cardiff (same place where I got Minouche and Cous Cous (Minouche’s mother) from) and fell in love with a pitbull called Archer who I renamed to Charlie, and after the interview at home to make sure we were suitable owners I was able to bring him home. And Charlie, although he was a fairly fearsome dog, didn’t stand a chance against Minouche. The first time they met, Minouche just slashed his cheek with her claws and he just kind of whimpered off. But it really wasn’t too long until they were both lying down in front of the fire together, and I think they loved each other, difficult to tell with animals as they don’t actually speak, you just have to guess, but I think they loved each other. Sadly they are both dead now.

Can a cat and birds live together in one house?

Can two male cats live together?

I have a 3 and 1/2 year old Male Himalayan and am thinking about introducing another male cat to the household. I am considering either rescueing an adult male or getting a male kitten. Is this OK? Which would be the better scenario? I also have a small dog (8 lbs) and they get along great. My current male cat is happy and I dont want to disrupt his happiness if another cat were introduced. Thanks for your help!

Which from the list can be a good companion and live together with a male Papillon?

I don't have any experience with small/medium sized dogs (only a JRT) but from what I know about dogs, I think a Toy Poodle would be a great companion for your Papillon.
Terriers are harder to train and are much more stubborn than a lot of other breeds. You don't want your Papillon turning stubborn because of the influence the terrier will give your Papillon.
Yorkies are good with other animals but they are EXTREMELY hard to housebreak. They are also VERY fragile.
Chinese Cresteds are very active but also very fragile.

Be sure to do as much research as possible on either breed you consider.

Also, a cat would be great! I've got three kittens and they all get along now really well. If you were to get a cat, maybe consider two? Burmese are EXCELLENT cats and from my experience, by FAR the best breed of cat around.

Dog and Cat Okay Together?

as long as he is exposed to the cat and trained really well he should be fine. my dog was kind of the same story. he is a border collie mix so he also has that chasing instinct and he was raised with my cat and other dog and we taught him not to chase them and be rough and he is fine now

EDIT: also ur cat will teach him. just one good swat at him will get the message clear. my dog got up close and grabbed my cat's tail and bit him and my cat gave him a swat on his head and my dog never went near him again. my cat died but still. he never went near him for the rest of the cat's life

What is the best way to Introduce a cat to a dog?

Don’’t leave them alone together until you are absolutely sure they will get on. Make sure the cat has a ‘safe’ place he/she can retreat to. If the dogs back the cat into a corner it will be ugly for the dogs - they could lose an eye to those claws quite easily. Put dogs in one room, take cat in or let wander in at own pace. Don’t try to stop it if it wants to leave the room. OR, put cat in room, let dogs wander in, they will probably want to smell her/him. Cat may well hiss. Dogs will usually take the hint and go and sit on the other side of the room, probably near you. Feed them at same time, prefrebly with cat up high somewhere so it feels safe and dogs cannot steal food. Stay until they are all done. Eventually they should get used to each other. Sometimes they will be friends, sometimes they just tolarate each other. Sometimes they will never see eye to eye or, in this case, paw to paw. Good luck.BTW at one time we had 8 cats and 2 dogs in a 3 bed house!

Is it safe to let my dog and ferret play together?

I can only talk about my experience with the two.

I have 2 dogs (Beagle/Poodle and a Lhasa Apso), and had 2 ferrets (One was an albino deaf).

The ferrets and dogs got along rather well. They would play a lot, and it always seemed like my dogs knew when to stop. The closest it would come, would be when Seda (B/P Mix) would trap a ferret between her paw and the floor, and just look at the ferret. Their gums never raised or anything like that.

I would montior closely for a week or so. Then I would loosely monitor, then work to trying to monitor out of sight. Once you think everyone is comfortablt with each other, you can start to trust them.

However, they are animals so always be cautious when the interact. We later gave out ferrets to a neighbor boy, because they weren't getting attention, due to dogs and new born son. But I loved my ferrets!!

Oh, I should also mention, I was more worried about the ferrets scratching one of the dogs eyes. So just watch out for that too....
