In my opinion, none of them are worth anything. They rely on highly unreliable statistics and factors that have nothing to do with the quality of education. In the United States there are hundreds, if not thousands of truly excellent colleges and universities, and at the undergraduate level education is largely uniform. Students should not choose institutions based on some silly ranking, but rather do their homework and choose the school that suits them best in terms of location, size and special programs. Students will do their best work where they are happiest, and at the undergraduate level what a student does in college is infinitely more important than the meaningless “ranking” of the college they attend. The “best fit” for any student may be a “famous” college, or it may be a hidden gem of a local institution with just the right mix of courses and programs for a given student.At the graduate level the “ranking” of the college is irrelevant, because one should choose a graduate training program based on the effectiveness of the department or program rather than the university. Some of the most famous universities have some of the worst graduate programs in some fields.

Avvo has a couple of different ways to provide information about attorneys. I will give you some points to consider that I find invalidates the rest of their service:They rate attorneys based on participation and non-participants get significantly lower ratings rather than a “no record” response. If you are an attorney and choose not to have an AVVO account, you will still show up in their search results, but your rating will be about half that of anyone who signs up with them.They keep their rating system private and though they admit that signing up for and completing your profile increases your rating, they don’t go so far as to say that you have to pay them to get a better rating. They will, however, give you special privileges if you sign up for the Professional level account and pay them for the service.They allow anybody to sign up for an account and post a review about an attorney. Even though the review is false and slanderous, they will not remove it. They have gone to great lengths to tell you how to respond, but don’t go so far as to check the validity of any of their claims. If you file a formal dispute, they will temporarily remove the review until they can get verification from the user that the review is valid. They do not attempt in any way to validate the user’s claims, they just want to make sure that they stand by their remarks. As such, anyone with a phone could literally setup fake accounts and post negative reviews to all of their competition’s profiles and so long as they responded to the dispute, the false review would remain.They claim to do a bunch of checks and validations, but upon contacting them for support, you find out that they do not validate anything and they are protected from liability to allow anyone to say anything they want about any attorney.You decide if this is the kind of service that you find to be reputable and worth relying on for your legal issues.
