What Is The Difference Between Republicans And Democrats

What is the main difference between Democrats and Republicans? What is their main ideology? Have they changed their way of thinking throughout history?

Yes, they have changed their way of thinking, most recently in the 1960s, when Democrats used to be the party of segregation and Republicans were more in favor of integration. This has completely flipped, which is why you can’t point to an incident before about 1970 and say “well XX party member said this in 1950” and try to link it to the party as it exists today.Republicans used to be conservative; now they are reactionary and Republican presidents have actually swelled the national deficit every time they’ve been in charge, leaving Democratic presidents (Clinton and Obama) to have to shrink it. Republicans used to be the party of less government, but now they are the party that passes laws banning what people can do, such as smoke pot, have an abortion (still legal but not if the GOP had their way—so much for “less government influence), or allowing transgender people to use the bathroom they find most fitting.

What are the differences between democrat, republican, conservative, and liberal?

I've looked at several of the same question in the Yahoo! Answers archives, but the answers were either on a complete bias or didn't really answer the question. I would like an honest, unbias answer. All the websites seem to have a slant as well.

I simply want to know what the main differences are between parties without smart*ss, bias answers. Is it possible to have political views without having loyalties to a party? I've never considered myself either, mainly because I don't know the difference. I've always voted on the issues, not along party lines. Thank you for your time. I really appreciate it.

What is the difference between democrat and republican?

"Democracy/Republic"

In contemporary usage, the term "democracy" refers to a government chosen by the people, whether it is direct or representative. The term "republic" has many different meanings but today often refers to a representative democracy with an elected head of state, such as a President, serving for a limited term, in contrast to states with a hereditary monarch as a head of state, even if these states also are representative democracies with an elected head of government such as a Prime Minister.

In historical usages and especially when considering the works of the Founding Fathers of the United States, the word "democracy" refers solely to direct democracy, while a representative democracy where representatives of the people govern in accordance with laws and usually also a constitution is referred to as a republic. Using the term "democracy" to refer solely to direct democracy retains some popularity in United States conservative and libertarian circles.
