Interesting Question, First of all. Yes they are different. Data, Information and Knowledge are quite different in technical terms. These terms are quite confusing but let's give them a try to differentiate.DATA: a "given" or a fact; number; picturerepresents something in real worldraw materials in production of information INFORMATION:Data that have meaning in contextData relatedData after manipulationKNOWLEDGE:familiarity, awareness and understanding of someone or somethingacquired through experience or learning it is a concept mainly for humans unlike data and information.EXAMPLE:Take the example of a Customer Survey. After Surveying you have a long list of questions and answers that had been asked to the customers, that is your Data. While interpreting it, say a 1000 customers are surveyed, every time when you want to know something you don't want to go through each and every questions to find something relevant, that would be time-consuming and not very helpful. So to solve this we manipulate Data according to our need through software, calculations, drawing graphs, taking average, etc., this is Information i.e, data after manipulation. Information is helpful, not data. We can check how many customers are happy with our product through Information not through Data collected, But we need data for Information. At last it is our Knowledge that differentiates between two individuals having same information. Knowledge is something that have not much of a technical concept rather a human concept but it is required.
