Traveling to Europe for the first time, tips please?

For my 30th birthday I'm planning a 12 day trip through Europe. I'm thinking London, Paris, and Rome, maybe Madrid if there's time. Can you please offer me tips? I've only traveled internationally once before.

Here are my questions. Pleas answer as many as you can:

- How much should I plan to save for the trip?
- What are some good travel websites?
- Is it better to stay in hostels or hotels? Are the hostels more for people in their early 20s?
- How much should I pack? I was thinking of just two carryons.
- Would it be better to fly into London and fly out of Rome or would it be better to do the trip roundtrip from London?
- What about traveling within Europe? Ferries? Buses? Trains? Eurorail? Planes?
- Are these friendly cities for a girl traveling alone? I'm excited about seeing the sites, but I'm also hoping to meet some people and go out a little.
- I have a cell phone I got in China. Can I just change the SIM card and use it in Europe or will I need to buy a phone once I get there? (I have Verizon, so I can't change a SIM out of it.)
- Will travel be difficult in France and Italy? I speak English, and just a little bit of Spanish.
- I'd also like to stop in Madrid if I can, is that feasible given that I'll be there from 12 to14 days or should I nix it?

Thank you so much!

What are the things that an Indian student should carry while moving to Germany for studies?

Last minute panic and packing issues are always there but first, take a deep breath. Now, there must be a tonnes of things you wanna get along. But important and most important ones are as follows:1) inner wears - they are relatively expensive here2) thermal wears - 3 to 4 pairs3) jeans - 4 to 5 because more than that isn't required to be honest4) t-shirts - say about 10-14...depends on you...but that's more than enough...5) slippers for home6) sport shoes for everyday use7) boots for wearing while going out casual...8) towel- 2 are enough9) socks - 5 to 6 pairs are fine10) cream and lip balm and face wash - say 2 each11) body wash/shampoo and all that - 1 small each for first few days coz its really cheap there... and no need to carry that weight12) bed sheet - 2 single ones13) blanket - 1 is enough because we bought another one here itself to put it on bed sheet...and that's more than enough to keep us warm since heaters are on all the time...14) JACKET & CAP & GLOVES & MUFFLER! - 1 each but best quality like from eastern or western stores.15) Formal shirts + Suit (1)16) 1 or 2 ethnic wear17) Medicines- for all kinds of problems with prescriptionThat's all the things you need for yourself...And now -some extra things:StationaryLaptop accessoriesUniversal converterA lunch box kind of box for yourselfVERY IMPORTANT - all your documents and 2 copies of each! with BIOMETRIC photos - at least 20 photos!!!So I know keeping all this in one suitcase is quite difficult. But there's a solution !Keep your minimum pair of clothes/bed sheet/blanket/jacket/warm wear/laptop and few important things like personal things with you while coming.Rest all will cost u Rs 5500 to send 20 kgs in around 15 days by Indian post!I think I've covered everything for you. All the best! P.S. Don't forget to put a label/tag on your bags with your details (not all) on it, the first time you are traveling.

What should I know before getting a credit card?

Is there a monthly fee even if I don't make any charges?

How long do I have after I make a charge? A month?

What is the best one to get? I heard SECU is. Can anybody get one from them?

How is Canadian Border Control?

I've been stopped at both borders SO many times, I feel like I can answer this one good for you.

1) So... I don't understand why you are bringing fake IDs? The drinking age in Quebec is 18... so you're all fine. Why chance it too? If border patrol sees them you may be in some trouble... probably not too much trouble but why not save an hour's worth of headaches?

2) I don't think that matters, you may as well just use the American passport it will be easier for you. When they ask "where do you live?" "what do you do?" it's just easier to say "I live in xxxx, USA" then "oh I live in xxxx, USA but I'm German". Again, this is more just for your own ease of travel.

3) Yeah both of them are ok to bring. Alcohol is alot more expensive in Canada so it's probably smart to bring more beer. Just check up on how much you are allowed to bring. They may give you a hard time because technically you shouldn't be doing that in your state... but Canada customs obviously doesn't have jurisdiction over that. They may give you a hard time, but it's perfectly legal to bring a certain amount of alcohol. haha, yes... funnels aren't illegal in Canada either.

4) They may check your car, but unless they REALLY think you're up to something they won't take your car apart. You'll probably get checked becuase you're all young, and they're not stupid they know you're up to party... but whatever, you'll be fine. Just don't bring illegal things.

General Canada Answers:

1) Get in touch with your phone company, there are packages you can get for cheap usually that reduce roaming charges.

2) Yeah, I would change your money. It's kind of hit or miss whether or not people will take American money... it'll be alot easier for you to use Canadian currency.
