What Is The Most Effecive Way To Learn French 1

What do you find is the most efficient way to learn French?

The only way to learn a language is to use it.The only way to learn to speak a language is by speaking it - you cannot read your way to conversational skills. The only way to learn to read it is by reading it.The only way to learn to write it is by writing it.And the only way to understand is by listening and trying to understand.Avoid translation at all costs. The very best method is total immersion. Now, immersion is not just about always hearing French. It is just as important to isolate yourself from all other languages you know. Stop using English for the entire time you are learning French. That’s certainly not practically possible for a lot of people, but you asked for the best method. That’s it.

What is the most effective way to learn French from my partner?

Thank you for inviting me to answer your question, Ryan! While our partner, friends, family are very willing and have the best intentions, they are not trained to teach. And I’m speaking from experience, as my boyfriend is Spanish and I am learning it.The problems come from them trying to be nice or ‘good at this’.When they try to be nice, they don’t correct us enough. Which makes us feel good about our progress, but sadly it reinforces our bad habits. When they try to be ‘good at teaching’, they may correct too much, making us feel that we just don’t get it. This was my experience with my own father, who’s a musician, trying to teach me music. Correcting us too much, discourages us.Someone trained to be a teacher/coach knows to pick their battles, and if there are many mistakes to correct, stays on a theme, so that the student acquires knowledge in one direction, focused, simple, feasible and they can see success. Then, we go to correct the next, by prioritizing the errors. What is most important to correct? What can wait.I hope I didn’t discourage you, but I’d love to prevent you spending time without much result and then feeling that you have to start from square one - which is where many of my clients are when they approach me for help.Bonne chance !Llyane - LearnParisianFrench dot com

What method should I learn French most effectively?

Find a French person and start conversing with themDespite all the cracks that are made about French arrogance, they’re quite encouraging and appreciative of your effort to speak their language. Expect for Parisians …. god damn snobs .. ok je rigole …Make friends with Francophones in person or even online. Ask people for help in improving your French especially when it comes to colloquial (and very regional) uses of the French Language.Look out for French or Francophone groups in your local area.Watch your favorite shows in French with French SubtitlesEspecially episodes you’ve seen before so you have kind of reference. I like watching old episodes of the Simpsons in French. Of course you’ll have your own shows to watch. As example try this video:Again, watch out for very idiomatic or colloquial language. It’s not a big deal to me personally, as long as I’m mindful.Listen to Songs in FrenchMost of us like music of some kind and from experience I can tell you that once I got started on to some modern French artists, I can no longer stand the modern music that comes out of the English or Anglophone world. Here’s a nice example:I think French music is grossly underappreciated.Caveat: Unless you’re big fan of Hip Hop (I am), stay away from French Rap. They’ve got some really great music BUT it’s rap, and it’s not the best way to learn a language. I just listen to guys like Sexion d’Assaut, Fonky Family & 113 because I like that style of music. And Remember:There’s NO Substitute for Good Professional InstructionI was very fortunate to have excellent teachers from my local Alliance Francaise. Their teaching method, the syllabus and resources are all top notch. When it comes to teaching French, there are very few organizations that come close to their level of instruction.Take a basic or upto advance French languag course if you can.Alliance française Paris Ile-de-FranceHope that helps.

How can i learn french fast?

First you need to decide how much French you want to learn. Then you have to commit to it and persevere.

As the author at the website http://www.how-to-learn-any-language.com says, learning a language to fluency is absolutely possible and I agree. One of the first challenges you'll meet is thinking that learning a language to fluency is impossible, or being told this by someone else. Don't let this be - http://how-to-learn-any-language.com/e/faq/basics-impossible.html. Again following the advice of the website author (who is an accomplished language learner), using a grammar book before getting to a higher level of learning may just be a waste of your time.

If you want to be able to reach a conversationally fluent level, I think your best bets are on the FSI courses, which are free. These courses were developed by the US Department of State decades ago for US Diplomats. It remains perhaps the most efficient (and most serious) way to learn a language. While you don't need to live in the country or even have a teacher /friend who speaks that to practice with, of course it would help.

The course focuses on ORAL skills almost entirely and has many, many hours of recorded audio by native speakers - I think about 18 hours in Units 1-12 and more from units 13-24. If you wish to become fluent in a language, going to a workbook and filling in blank spaces isn't going to do you any good.

Also and this is important for your pronunciation - When you are starting off do not try to pronounce a word just by looking at it especially if it is French because French orthography is very difficult. Just as importantly, never ever ever ever try to translate a French sentence word by word into English or vice versa. There is a French equivalent of the meaning, and there is an English equivalent meaning. A word that exists in the sentence in English may not even be in the French equivalent.

I want to learn french?

French is spoken in various places besides France. Off the top of my head, Morocco, Canada, Tahiti...im sure there are many more.

I taught myself.

I would strongly suggest getting a software computer program, as they are the most engaging and effective way to learn. Books are good too, if you don't have a computer.

Here are some options I've personally used, spend some time looking over what they have to offer and if you feel you would work well with it:

Software:

http://www.abclearnlanguage.com/url/french (this program is basically just like Rosetta Stone, but much more affordable. It only costs $99)

Books:

Best way to learn french?

Hi Hugo,

The best way to learn french would probably be to go to a french speaking country. That is the simple answer to your question. However, I realize it may not always be possible to travel to a french speaking country, but no fret, with the help of the internet and today's technology, you can pretty much bring the french speaking countries right to you.

There are lots of tools, websites, and courses out there on the web, many of them free and great, which will help you in your quest to learn french. The only problem is that you can get bombarded with so much information from so many different resources that it can leave you feeling overwhelmed and not knowing where to begin.

I would recommend you check out www.rapid-french.com, they have all the material you could possibly want or need, and they put it all together really nicely. They offer a free course which is absolutely great, I highly recommend it. It's got all the stuff you would get anywhere else, but it's all in one place and organized really nicely.

They have audio lessons with french/english transcriptions which are really awesome, games, french culture lessons (which are cool because they tie in the culture to learning the language, makes it more fun in my view and helps you understand the language better), and some really neat little tools, like one which helps you with your pronunciation (i'll let you explore that on your own). They also have a great online community where you can meet other students and native french speakers and instructors.

Here is the site: http://www.Rapid-French.com

Hope it's helpful for you!
