What Is The Purpose Of Light Gates

What are the uses of logic gates?

Logic gates are in fact the building block of digital electronics; they are formed by the combination of transistors (either BJT or MOSFET) to realize some digital operations (like logical OR, AND, INVERT ). Every digital product, like computers, mobile, calculators even digital watches, contain logic gates. The use of logic gates in digital world can be understood better by the following example: the single bit full adder in digital electronics is a logic circuit which perform the logical addition of two single bit binary numbers (a,b,cin) a and b are the the two binary number of single digit (either 1 or 0) and cin is the carry input . say for example a,b,cin= 1,1,1 gave an logical sum output of 1 and a carry of 1 , a,b,cin= 110 gave sum= 0 and carry of 1. Now this adder can be formed by the combination of many gate like by using NAND gates only. or by using XOR , AND ,OR gates and so on. So, in a nutshell, the adder which is of great importance in your computer processor and also in many more applications is basically built from the logic gates.

What are light gates? What are they typically used for?

Hmmm. The only light gates I've ever used were to measure speed and acceleration with adept precision. There are a myriad of practical uses depending upon bandwidth and spectrum however. I'm not sure if that is the answer that you're looking for but that has been my 'hands-on' use of the technology.  Sorry I did not mention that it is a sensor and that it requires more than 1 for speed acceleration or even event processing.

How can an NAND gate be used to design the interior lighting system of a car?

Ok, here’s the idea of how the interior lights worked in my 1978 Renault 5 TL, and in a fair few old cars I have owned. We are talking very basic on-off courtesy lights with no ‘stay on’ or dimming function. Simple door switches, and a simple cabin light with an auto-off-on three way switch. All the door switches are open when the buttons are pushed in by a closed door. When you open a door, the switch closes and pulls the interior light wire down to earth/ground.So, with the doors all closed, you have four inputs which are all ‘floating’ at 12v. Let us call that ‘Logic 1’. If any door is opened, that means that the signal on that door is 0v. Let’s call that ‘Logic 0’.When any or all doors are opened, then the light comes on.So we can now build a ‘truth table’.I only had a two door model so that makes it easy.Left Closed (1), Right closed (1), Light off (0)Left Open (0), Right Closed (1), Light on (1)Left Closed(1), Right Open (0), Light on (1)Left Open (0), Right Open (0), Light on (1)As you can see, the truth table equates exactly to a 2 input NAND gate. However, if I’m being picky, I could also tell you that one side of the light is wired to a permanent 12v supply, and the ‘input’ to the light is actually pulled to ground to get it to illuminate. So does that mess up the logic? Not if you think of the input to the light as being the same as an open collector TTL gate!So consider now adding in our three position light switch. This in essence adds another ‘NAND’ function to the equation. The door switches now go to the light via another NAND function made up of the light switch itself. It can be switched to the output of our first ‘virtual gate’ (or door switch arrangement) or the switch itself can wire the light input to ground. As we have seen that any ground input causes the NAND gate to bring the light on, then NANDing the door switches with the light switch will also have the same effect on the light.Newer cars obviously have time delays and dimmers and are usually controlled with the vehicle’s BSI rather than directly through switches these days, but the basics ‘back in the day’ did effectively use hard-wired NAND logic.

What are the practical applications of logic gates?

Well, well, what happened here ?You practically applied Millions of logic gates to inquire as to what is the practical application of logic gates. That's because the logic gates are the building blocks for all computers, smart phones and the whole internet. Ok, lets see some day to day applications of the 3 basic gates, that a common person may relate to:1. AND Gate: So while going out of the house you set the "Alarm Switch" and if the burglar enters he will set the "Person switch", and tada the alarm will ring.2. OR Gate: You would of course want your doorbell to ring when someone presses either the front door switch or the back door switch..(nice).3. Not GateWhen the temperature falls below 20c the Not gate will set on the central heating system (cool huh).Pic Source: Logic Gates Presentation

What is the use of the XOR GATE?

The XOR gate is also known as the exclusive OR gate, it is a computer science term. So it is almost like a normal OR gate, except it is also False when both conditions are True…Basically bro, it is only true if and only if one of the inputs is True! It could be used in the aspect of checking to see whether two matches would be compatible by gender (assuming they are straight). Where True means that the person is female and False is Male. So if both are false or both are true, it wouldn't work, but it would if work if one was false and one was true!Hope this helped!!SM

What is the meaning of this van halen song, Light up the sky?

I tried looking for a meaning but none. Heres the lyrics;

Yeah, we're all fast breakers comin' out of the gates
takin' chances. We're the crash and burn.
Yeah, there is a way with beauty, but you never gave
a love cross the line where none return.
I watch my television; almost lost my mind.
It said, "Open your eyes. Leave it all behind."
I heard the wind a whisp'rin',
strong magic comin' on!
They comin' out for sure.
Come see your children; yeah, they're lighting up the skies.
Won't recognize them any more.
Ooh, mama, see the firelight.
Ooh, we're comin' out tonight.
Wolves at my door wised up quick.
Turn here and gone from on the go.
Seems the old folks who come up short were the pretty
little kids who didn't want it, no.
I had to pay admission when I came tonight.
And it said, "Open my eyes. Leave it all behind."
I heard the wind a whisp'rin',
strong magic comin' on!
They comin' out for sure.
Come see your children; yeah, they're lighting up the skies.
Won't recognize them any more.
Ooh, mama, see the firelight.
Ooh, lightin' up the sky.
Light up the sky.
Light up the sky.
Light up the sky.
Light 'em up!

What are those people called who hold those lights in their hands and direct traffic on the runway?

Marshalers, Ramp Agents, Ground Crew, Wand Wavers. Take your pick. That's not their only job. They also load bags into the airplanes, push them back from the gates, etc.

Just to be picky here, they don't direct traffic on the runway. Their purpose is to "marshal" a plane into its gate (parking spot) and assist the pilots in making sure they don't hit anything.
