What Is The Scope Of Rent A Car In Cochin

Is moving from Kochi to Bangalore for a software engineering job a wise decision?

I agree to Sooraj's answer. I was in Bangalore for 3 years, then moved back to Trivandrum for 2 years as per an offer and now is back to Bangalore. I have also lived in Cochin for 2 years. As per job oppurtunities, conferences, networking etc, Bangalore is a much better choice than either Cochin or Trivandrum. Bangalore has much more companies from all sort of sizes and functionalities. You have startups, you have the typical Indian consulting companies and there are product based companies. You have a nice choice to pick from. Also the compensation is also better compared to the other towns. There are usually a much bigger user groups for almost all languages and platforms here. So networking and improvement in one's own realm is only a matter of choice. there are also lot of conferences that happens regularly with international speakers. Great Indian Developer Summit is one among them. Now the city is a little expensive compared to other cities. As Sooraj said the real estate is bit on the dearer side. But it all comes down to one's own choices and budgeting. If you are ready to hunt down and stay a bit to the lesser posh areas, you will be able to bring it down. The public transport facility is really good in this city. So travelling might not be that tough. You can get monthly passes for the buses. Also if you cook yourselves and decide to eat less from outside (Something which I started doing recently after getting married) you can bring down expenses to a great level. So the city is expensive but as I said it all trickles down to your own choices and way of living. But the advantage is there are ample chances for entertainment and big splurges if you wish to do it once a while.Coming to your second question. I always felt there is more visibility and chance of growth in a smaller company than a big firm. A medium size fish has more chnace of survival in a lake than that of a bigger fish in an oceans where unknown leviathans are roaming. Also what you are offered is a very decent raise. My advice. Take it. Come to Bangalore. Expand yourselves to the culture, both of the city and your fellow programmers. There are real geniuses among us. Network, attend conferences, find the gurus and utilize them and may be during the next jump you won't need to bargain for a price.Welcome to Bangalore , my fellow coder.

How is it like to live in Kochi?

Kochi/Cochin is the most happening city in Kerala and the city’s growth is in the peak now a days. The city boundaries are extending far into the eastern side and northern side. About living in the city. You have great societies or affluent areas where independent houses can be bought and flats are much more common. Blessed by the water from Periyar and Muvattupuzhayar, city’s most parts have no water scarcity. However, Kochi roads are narrow and traffic is chaotic. Unlike Bengaluru or Mumbai, you cannot expect to come back to your house which is just 1 furlong away from Kadavanthra or Edappally - because traffic can be unpredictable. no flyovers, no infrastructure development except a wasteful metro railway project whose funds would’ve resolved Kochi’s traffic problems. Ernakulam city (Kochi) is built on swamp lands and land reclaimed just 4–5 decades back from Vembanad lake on the western side. The mosquito problem is scary..the sewage system is in shambles and unmaintable due to the rubbery land (swamp lands). But, go to Kakkanad or Kalamassery or to Thrippunithura you can get better lands and better life quality. Visit Ernakulam only when absolutely needed. I tend to avoid visiting Kochi city as a whole day will be lost in the traffic blocks in Edappally or Vyttila and inside the city. A large mall (Lulu Mall) is placed right in the Edappally junction. Everytime some flash sales comes in the mall, whole Kerala people seems to be there to visit Lulu creating traffic blocks that lasts 1.5 hours or more! I believe that Kochi will slowly move towards the eastern side which is kind of good due to lack of congested population. Possibly we may see Kakkanad and Aluva emerging as big centres.

Depending upon the need of a car, what would you look for in services offered by self-drive car rental platforms?

while taking a self drive service keep the following things in mind-hours or kilometres of requirement- There are services such as Zoomcar which serves on duration and kilometres of use. Post the designated completion of kilometres they charge a hefty Rs 10 or 15 per kilometres during the duration. Post the completion of duration they will block the gearbox and you will have to purchase another subscription. Some services like Voler or Revv simply go by the duration and fuel. They will give you the car with a filled tank and would request you to deliver it on completion with a filled tank. However they dont mind a litre of 2 of gas spent.Security amount-Security amount in certain services are refunded in certain wallets. Please ensure that these wallets have the facility of transferring the amount to your bank account on the completion of services.Any services you choose please be clear about the extra charges in case the subscription duration or the kilometres allotted expires. Good to know this, before you are levied with some heavy fines. All good to go now.

Which is better to live in, Kochi or Trivandrum?

Basically I am from kollam.I have been to Kochi for my study purpose and it is almost one year since then.Right now I am in Trivandrum .I see a huge difference between Trivandrum and Kochi . Let it be culture, people, food or whatever it be. You will feel like you are in a 2 different countries. What i loved about Kochi is that people are so cooperative with outsiders. They will help you in whatever way they can.But you will always have a feeling that you are an ALIEN to the place. To make it worse regional people are so nosy that they even interfere in our personal matters. And the roads and parks and every public places you go is very very dirty and unhygienic. Talking about food , you can see restaurants and hotels and road side shop in every 100 Meters. But the food are so nasty and dirty that you wont even dare to drink a glass of water.Talking about Trivandrum, what I love about this place is people over here are not bothered about what others do and act i.e they are not NOSY. Two thing that you will not not hesitate to say about Kerala is CULTURE and UNHYGIENIC . Yeah, both are in Trivandrum. But when compared to Kochi I can bluntly say that Trivandrum is far far better than Kochi. When you visit Trivandum Museum you can see the same. And about the food , I promise you that you will just love it like anything. Road side foods and spicy malabary restaurants are so many , that once you get into any of these you wont leave without licking your finger. Late night street shops are my favorite.Only thing you will hate about Trivandrum is that regional people over here are so RUDE. Humanity is long gone .They act as if they hate HUMANS.So concluding I am okay with both the places but I will always prefer Trivandrum to Kochi. <3

What is the current market structure of self-drive rental cars?

The autonomous car has been segmented on the basis of level of automation and geography. Based on level of automation, it has been further classified into Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4 and Level 5. In Level 1 autonomous cars, the driver is in full control of the vehicle. Intelligent features add a layer of comfort and safety like cruise control mode. Such type of autonomous cars require human driver to carry on all critical functions and monitor driving environment.Know More About Autonomous Car.Cars with Level 2 automation provide additional automation compared to Level 1 cars. Automation of at least two control functions are provided in such vehicles; for example, automated lane changing. The driver is still required to monitor driving environment and be ready to take control of the vehicle at a short notice. In Level 3 autonomous cars, the driver can transfer the control of safety critical functions to car in certain weather or traffic conditions. The driver is not required to monitor the driving environment, but can be asked by the car to take control. The Level 4 autonomous cars do not require human inputs to drive. The car can maneuver itself in a variety of situations. In Level 5 autonomous cars, the driver does not need to be present in the car.“With the constant innovation and update in technology, autonomous cars are likely to be the next big thing across the world”, says the author of this study. The significantly rising number of accidents across the world is expected to fuel the adoption of autonomous cars as they are supposed to be highly effective in reducing the number of road accidents and make streets safer by automating safety features. The advancements in technology are likely to enable autonomous cars to save tens of thousands of lives every year, lost to traffic accidents and fatalities due to the human errors in judgment, which will eventually reflect on their sale in the future.

Which branch of TCS is better, Kochi or Chennai?

I had been posted both at Chennai & Kochi locations of TCS - 11 years in each of these locations. Although am a Tamilian based out of Chennai, life was more blissful at Kochi - considering the cost of living (could rent a 1-BHK with car park & other facilities for just Rs 3K at Kochi), commute to office (average time in Kochi is less than 30 minutes), relatively less crowded campus, I would definitely vote for Kochi. Good food inside the campus (hope am not belittling Chennai Centre, where I started my career), good infrastructure facilities & good work-life balance, easy access to all teams are other positives. Both the office buildings (centres) are located in the same campus of Infopark an any shift between the buildings hardly makes a difference while this is not the case at Chennai where the centres are located wide apart between Ambattur & Siruserri (both at different districts in TN). Yes, one of the negatives which is given an exaggerated version is the frequent strikes/bandhs/hartals at Kochi - but you have a police escorted transport system to reach office. I could write much more, but time for me is a major constraint now……

How profitable is a car rental business in India? I am asking about attaching a brand new car to services like UBER and OLA . How much should I invest and what returns can I expect? Is having a driver profitable?

If you have car lying idle it is always wise to attach your car to the taxi aggregator. A car can easily makes 8 - 10 trips in a day if it runs for 14 hours. One trip can take an average of 15 - 20kms per trip. Hence in a day the car will run 150 km with passenger. With a rate of Rs. 12 one you will get Rs. 1,800/- per day. With 25% run without customer and fuel + maintenance cost of Rs. 3.50 per km (possible for diesel car) your expense is Rs. 700/-. So you have gross profit of Rs. 1,100/- per day. With 25 working days and driver salary of Rs. 12K per month monthly you can make profit of Rs. 15K easily. The profit will get eroded if you are still paying EMI for the car I will also suggest one to connect OBD based devices to the car to increase profitability of the business. With the help of these devices you can  1. Track remotely from your smartphone about your car location and path it has taken2. Track (from your smartphone) how much exact km car has been driven per trip with the path of the trip with the time it has taken and average speed (you can not be cheated by your driver) 3. Track (from your smartphone) the exact fuel consumption for each trip. Hence you are protected against fuel theft as well as can do profitability analysis on the basis of time of operation (morning/ noon/ afternoon/ evening), route taken, travel time etc. There is a strong relationship between car's mileage on the average speed4. Know how good/ bad the driver is driving (like over revving, sudden acceleration, hard brake, over speeding etc). You can educate him to drive properly which will save your car maintenance cost as well as reduce the risk of mishap5. You can get how long the car is idling (engine on when the car is static) and you can save fuel cost (it can go up to 20%)6. You get alert in case the car engine, coolant, battery etc has any issue and can take preventive maintenance

Job Search: Which job is better, ₹ 85000 in Bangalore or ₹ 60000 in my home town, Cochin ?

60000 in Kochi . Trust me ..Lets have some simple math. On Assumption that you are a bachelor/spinsterYou would get some decent accommodation in bangalore for about 10K/Month (1BHK in a Mediocre area). And now remember that you  would end up spending 10 months of your rent as an advance (Yes, it would be 1L).Traffic, the first thing you would repent being in Bangalore. The distance here is measured in time (Hours specifically) not in KMS. It is horrible and a nightmare when it rains. (Mind you , it rains almost once in a week). So, if you would get your bike/car and go with it, it would cost you around 3K-5K per month.Cost of living is much higher in Bangalore. At times even the cost of veggies amaze you (read it frustrate). Taking that, say if you cook on your own it would be around 4-5K per month.Single and Bored ? Movies and Pubs ? Yes, another 10K.With all those miscellaneous expenses in place, it would be around 10K. Now calculate the rest to understand how much you save !! Now, lets remove the assumption of being a bachelor. With family everything is a +2K or even more ..Lets go back to Cochin .. Did i hear home town ? Ok, then no rent , no additional efforts to reach the office (read it less traffic). and YES, Home cooked food. You would save much better being in your town, with family , with friends and in Peace !!The best things on Bangalore is WEATHER !! You would just love it .. But yes, its really bad when you switch to Economics ..All the best :)
