What Is The Short Story The Tabby Terror About

Will a cat attack an intruder who threatens the owner?

It pretty much depends on the cat and the owner. It happens less often than it does with dogs but when it happens it impressive.I havent experienced being saved by a cat from a human intruder, but once I was on the sidewalk in front of my house ( back before I changed my policy of keeping cats indoors 24/7 ) and was greeting a very sociable and handsome male cat named Basil who belonged to a neighbor and who had wandered over to me. Just then another neighbor who was walking his large and aggressive dog lost control of the dog’s leash as it started running up the sidewalk towards Basil intending to make a chew toy out of him. Basil seemed frozen with fear and flattened himself against my legs. I prepared to try and get control of this large dog if I could before he injured one or both of us.From out of nowhere my female tortie cat came charging across the yard and onto the sidewalk and skidded to a stop sideways in front of the large dog , back arched and began swatting that dogs face rapid fire with claws out stretched. The dog lost all its swagger and aggression immediately and ran cowering and whimpering back to its owner. My cat who had a little crush on Basil turned to him to make sure he and I were okay. Basil turned away, seemingly embarrassed at having been rescued by a female. My cat, “Bunnie” was crestfallen. I enthusiastically praised and petted her though having been extremely impressed and proud of her actions and extreme bravery which probably saved Basil and me from injury and in Basil’s case from potential death.

NEW CAT OWNER! my cat is getting declawed, returning home tomorrow. WHAT SHOULD I DO?!?

I understand your choice, I had one of my cats declawed. My other cat doesn't mess with the Soft Paws, my other cat is a terror and smacks peoples faces when he gets mad, and he had to be declawed to continue living in my home. (Also I have 3 permanent scars on my face from the last swipe of the paw, 3 years ago, and that was the last straw).

Anyways, yes the procedure is painful as we all know. It's really important to make sure her paws heal well, and she is comfortable while healing. Make sure that you replace her litter with something soft, that litter called Carefresh (usually used for small animal cages, and made from shredded paper product) is great. It is super soft, and clean, won't get stuck on her fresh wounds. I think this would be best. But you could also use shredded newspaper as an alternative to Carefresh. I just think the actual Carefresh litter would be more sanitary than newspaper, which is really important.

Secondly, you want to make sure that she has food, water, a cozy place to sleep, and her litterbox all within a fairly small area so she doesn't have to walk so far. And make sure its all on the ground so your cat doesn't have to jump up to get anywhere. My cat loved his fleece blankets which I laid out for him and put on his cat bed. They are really soft so that was nice on his sore paws.

If your cat is really hurting, some catnip might take her mind off of the pain. my cat is a catnip freak so he loved that, even when he was sore. The vet may also provide some painkillers, and if they don't offer, you should ask if you can have some painkillers to take home for later.

Anyways, you WILL get a million angry comments, and sure there are bad endings to many situations including declawing surgery sometimes. It's not often, and as a cat owner for my 27 years of life, I have owned 3 other cats (my parents had them declawed, they lived to be 14, 22 and 27) and now I have 2 cats of my own, only one declawed.

I can tell you from experience that all of my cats lived happy lives, and showed no consequences from being declawed. AND my 4 year old cat licked his paws when I had him declawed (he was 1) and tip toed around for about 4 days then he was fine.

Don't worry, it will all be fine. email me if you need any more help with this.

Are domestic cats social animals?

It honestly depends. Here are two stories about two of my cats. One was named Beatrice, and one is named Winston.Beatrice:Beatrice was a black and white tuxedo cat. While we got her as a kitten and she was shown copious amounts of love and attention, when she grew up she grew up to only love one person. That was my mom. While that was great for her and my mom, for me and my dad, that was no bueno! She would constantly hiss and me and him, and would only allow us to come close to her for the occasional pet, and when it was feeding time. Whenever company would come over, we would have to warn them about her, because she would usually try to claim her territory with her giant teeth, usually scaring them enough to know that exploring our house, was never going to happen. Considering she would be right there, right behind you, to remind you- that she was coming for you. Regardless of the behavior though, I still loved her. I was an only child, and since we got her as a kitten while I was a kid, she was considered a sister. When she died, it was hard, and it still hard for everyone to think about.Winston:Winston was one of the cats that had to suffer from her reign of terror. Beatrice owned the place and she sure as heck knew it! Whenever Winston would try and come over to play, Beatrice would hiss. Over time though (this is about a year in), she eventually became tolerable to him, and he would sometimes get the opportunity to sit near her. Winston is the complete and polar opposite of Beatrice. While he is extremely faithful to me, and my family (he knows where his bread is buttered), he loves affection, people, playing, and really anything that involves food. Whenever people come over, they ask “where’s your cat”, and they’ll want to hold him. Even people who aren’t really cat people will want to see him, just because he’s the cutest thing that ever existed (of course I say this).Winston is also an orange tabby. Orange tabbies are pretty much known for being pretty sweet, and sociable. Yay for Winston!

Split face kitten name ideas?

We adopted a new kitten tonight and she has a very unique face. One side is angelic and orange, and the other side is rough and black, and kinda reminds me of a soldier. I'm trying to think of a good name because my parents don't like Two Face. :p Any ideas? Something along the lines of being a soldier or trooper would be good, too, because she survived getting hit by a car. Thanks!
