It's been 4 days since the DHL tracking stopped when it said "scanned into sack/container" in Melrose Park, IL. What does this mean? I'm expecting a parcel from the USA (I'm in the UK)

As mentioned by another, you’ll have to wait until the package is scanned again…when received in the UK after customs. I have had a long delay between updates, but all that means is that it is in transit. No one is going to sitting there during transit and updating all the packages on their truck/airplane/whatever…so it is just a situation of waiting for it to arrive.4 days is a bit long, but it could be that they just didn’t have enough to fill up the plane for a transcontinental (transatlantic) trip to make it http://profitable….so your package along with others were held up for a couple of days until they had a full load. Once that arrives in the UK, it is up to customs to sort through that before handing it back to DHL…then you should get an update on the status of your package.

What does "Arrival scan" mean in UPS tracking info?

UPS has physical scans (meaning the package has been physically scanned by an associate) and systemic scans (meaning the trailer containing said package has "arrived" on the yard).  An arrival scan is just this, the trailer has arrived but not yet been physically scanned.  Once it has a physical scan, the shipment progress should change to "out for delivery".  Side note....the trailer will receive an arrival scan at each hub along the way until it gets to the center from which it will be delivered.  Only then will it get an out for delivery.
