What Is Your Favorite Cartoon From The 90s

What are your favorite 90's cartoons?

I will always love the old Nicktoons and Cartoon Cartoons that ran when I was a little kid. Really, all of them. They were a constant background presence in my childhood. But my favorites were probably Hey Arnold!, The Powerpuff Girls, Dexter’s Laboratory, Ed, Edd and Eddy, The Fairly Oddparents, and Courage the Cowardly Dog. Among others — it’s truly hard to choose. The last three in particular had a huge influence on my sense of humor, and Courage is probably the source of my love for surrealism. And of course, I have to mention Animaniacs and Freakazoid. And that’s just the television cartoons. I loved growing up during the peak of the animation renaissance; there were so many great movies coming out, and some of them were even made by companies other than Disney. Don’t get me wrong, I love pretty much everything they made before 2005-ish, but there was this brief period towards the end of the 90’s where other studios managed to get in a few quality films... though most of them didn’t make a profit. Remember when Dreamworks did traditional animation? The Prince of Egypt was a legitimate masterpiece, and The Road to El Dorado was a blast. You can’t knock Cats Don’t Dance or The Iron Giant, either.I also got my first exposure to anime in the late 90’s through Sailor Moon, which has continued to be one of my all-time favorites.

What were your favorite cartoons in the 80's to 90's?

So, so many. I’ll list but a small handful otherwise we could be here all day.I have to confess a definite fondness for this cartoon right here. The Ren & Stimpy Show. This show was so curiously grim, and exaggerated, but we undoubtedly loved watching every minute of it. John Kricfalusi’s masterpiece was beautifully drawn, and brilliantly voice acted. No question about it.Another favorite of mine was The Powerpuff Girls.Something about the powerpuff girls had us 16 year old males thinking it was the most entertaining show in the world, because my brothers and I loved this show. The characters were exactly our type of humor. Especially “the mayor, and mojojojo.” The show looks stupid on the outside, and is actually very smart and mature on the inside. Also, very good music. When I think of Nickelodeon, I think of Doug. This was the daytime sitcom of cartoons. It was an easy watcher, and that theme song was unmistakable. We didn’t much like the Disney reboot that happened in 1996, but the series from 1991–1994 was full of heart, and soul.Tenchi Muyo! Was my introduction to Anime. This is where I was opened up to a whole world of animation that had been delayed in coming to the states. Tenchi was the first (and still one of the best) series that I saw from this times. Other great series that I saw were Neon Genesis Evangellion, and Cowboy Bebop.

What were your favourite shows on Cartoon Network in the 90s?

Tom & JerryWell, this cartoon was synonymous to my ‘90s childhood.Dexter’s LaboratoryThe genius lad, his bully sister Dee Dee and the unbelievably massive underground laboratory, Dexter was everyone’s favorite back in the ‘90s.Swat KatsThis show was the epitome of being badass. The cartoon had everything – super cars, advanced weapons, slick bikes and yes, the old school bare knuckle fights. Get them cats back Cartoon Network!Batman: The Animated SeriesThe best adapted version of Batman's adventures was hands down the '90s animated series. It is a dark, beautifully animated look at Gotham that never tried to dumb down Bruce Wayne's double life just because his story was airing Saturday mornings. The Powerpuff GirlsThese super girls came to life and rocked cartoon network for the longest time. Despite being a bit girly, I followed this show religiously.PopeyeThis cartoon changed my perception about spinach. Thank you, Popeye!
