What Is Your Opinion On A Younger Child Being Allowed To Purchase A Game

Is it illegal/unfair for a parent to take away their child's belongings that the child had bought? What is your opinion?

It’s a crime to take away someone’s properties without consent. If you bought them yourself, they are yours and your parents have no right to take them. On the other hand, if you bought them with money your parents gave you, they aren’t yours. I have a job, so when I buy things for myself, they are 100% mine because I have a legitimate job and earned the money myself. If you get, let’s say 20 USD a week just to save for something, or to buy a weekly treat at the end of the week or something, that money still isn’t yours. Even if you did clean your room for it, or took out the trash, that money is still not yours. Cleaning your room and taking out the trash is normal things people are supposed to be doing when they live somewhere, some parents just decided to reward their children because then they won’t rush to finish the job, but actually, do it properly. As long are you’re under 18-years-old and you don’t buy things with money you’ve earned from a real part-time or full-time job, the money isn’t yours and your parents have all rights to take away whatever you bought with it. If you’re over 18-years-old, and your parents give you money, that money is now yours. When we are children parents own everything we own, because we can’t give consent, sometimes we make bad decisions and we don’t always know when to stop playing a game etc. When we turn 18 y/o, were considered an adult and we also automatically own everything we’ve been given. You wouldn’t confiscate your friend's phone if they bought it with money you gave them for their birthday, right? Well, you can’t do that to your child after they turn 18 y/o either because they are their own person now and are capable of making own rules. But, we need to think as our parents as our guardians. If you did buy a phone with your own money, but you can’t control how much time you spend on it and you don’t sleep enough or forget doing your homework because of it, they have all rights to take it away, because they are supposed to do so. their job as a parent is to stop you from hurting yourself and developing bad habits. If you’re over 18 y/o and live at your parent's house, I’m sorry, but you have to follow their rules. If you don’t want to you can move out.

Should minors be allowed to purchase video games containing violence?

Yes, assuming that the game is less than rated-M.This is because rated-M games contain material which is explicitly inappropriate for someone under the age of 17 years old. Most games which contain violence, but are rated, for example, T(for teen), often have one or more of:Fantasy violence, such as laser weaponsUnrealistic damage, such as the character flashing a color or making a sound when hurt, nothing muchVery little blood, no goreUnrealistic graphics, such as the game being somewhat pixelated by designKilling of fictional monsters, such as zombies and skeletons (most commonly rated T when art style makes it less graphic, otherwise can often be rated M)Not all video games contain vast amounts of blood and photorealism when depicting violence. Think about combat in…MinecraftSource: DamageAnd surprisingly, TerrariaIf you look on the left side, yes that is blood and gore in the air.I am surprised by how Terraria isn’t rated M, but here are a few points to considerAs you can tell, the game is very pixelated, so it doesn’t appear very realisticThe enemies displayed on screen (on the left side, as well as near the bottom right corner) are unrealistic, they are goblins. The ones on the bottom are mages who cast magic. The weapons are unrealistic, for the most part. There are a few actual, real weapons, such as a pistol, a musket, a shotgun, swords, throwing knives, shurikens, grenades, bow and arrows, etc. However, there are plenty of fantasy, completely unrealistic weapons, such as…The meowmere, which is a sword which launches bouncing, exploding nyan cats. Bonus: They meow whenever they bounceThe star cannon, which shoots out stars which you collect after they’ve fallen from the skyThe Daedalus Stormbow, which rains arrows from the skyPlus, even though there is blood and gore, you can always turn it off in the game’s settingsI know the main concern with allowing minors to play violent video games is that it is thought that ALL VIOLENT VIDEO GAMES desensitize kids of violence. But when you are shooting exploding nyan cats at two giant, robotic, flying eyeballs, where one shoots lasers at you and the other has a giant mouth which breathes green fire at you, this isn’t anything near what real life violence is like.Edit: By the way, all of the gifs are from the wiki: Terraria Wiki

Is it okay for younger children to play fortnite?

To be honest I feel like they should be allowed to play but there are a few things you should keep in mind before letting your young child play a game like Fortnite.I am a teenager meaning I am able to play “violent” video games making Fortnite ok for me to play. Having played many games of Fortnite I feel like the game isn’t at all gory or violent but does have violent aspects to it which can make people perceive it as a vicious game. When playing the game the goal is to eliminate or cause your opponent to be knocked in group gamemodes. Because these words are used I feel it makes Fortnite more child friendly. Just because these words are used doesn’t change the fact that you are shooting guns however so keep that in mind.I’ve also noticed the bullying aspect that goes on in the built in game-chat. When playing squads or duos you can be placed with other random people when the fill option is selected in the loading screen. This means that older people have the chance to make fun of younger kids for the voice or if they are not good at the game as they are of course younger and haven’t developed the same sense of coordination that people older than them have. All this can be avoided though using the mute buttons if someone is being toxic (toxic in gaming terms meaning a group of people who are rude and can't be nice) or just don’t enter the game chat full stop by playing solo or not having a headset on.Thank you and I hope this helped!!

Young gun owners and video games?

I'm in my early 20s and the difference between even other people my age and 14-19 year olds is disturbing. Both of the ranges I frequent get more than their fair share of kids coming in and asking to rent MP5s, M4, and FAMAS rifles. In fact a few weeks ago I was firing a Type 97A in Ontario and some kid in a Call of Duty shirt asked me if he could fire my "famous" and if it had three-round burst or full auto function.

Video games are rotting these kids' brains. There's nothing wrong with playing games but when its your sole source of information regarding firearms you're going to have a very hard time getting into sport shooting. Kids should be taught proper firearms safety and use instead of just buying a gun they saw in the newest war game without any real experience or knowledge.

My little brother (just turned 20) even takes what he sees in games above what I tell him. I've been shooting for a long time and studying firearms is my main hobby, he even calls me a gun nut or "gun obsessed" when he's trying to insult me. The weird thing is even after that he doesn't believe me when I try to teach him things. A few months back he started insisting that a revolver fired in single action was more powerful than the same gun fired in double action because he saw it in some game. I told him that was bullsh*t but he wouldn't believe me. It's sad.

@akluis: I think you mean that kids now have sex at 12, never touch a gun because their parents say it's evil and move next door at 28, still mooching off their parents until they die.

Do you think its wrong for kids to play games like prototype, call of duty 4, and grand theft auto?

My cousin has 2 kids and he spoils them so much. i really hate them and the youngest is so fat too but thats off topic. well my cousin lets them play all these violent games. My cousin's son(6 years old) kept asking to play my game prototype and i told him it was too violent and so he asked his dad that he wanted it. I told my cousin he couldnt and he yelled at me saying," what's your problem?!" It really pissed me off but in the end they borrowed it and call of duty 4. im told all the time that games could affect kids when they grow up.i know it's not my problem but i just want to know if it's not right.
