What Kind Of Doctor Should You See For Low Testosterone Levels

How do I boost a low testosterone level?

Exercise or prescription.

Can a regular family doctor test for low testosterone levels?

Can a regular family doctor test for low testosterone levels? I'm not out to seek steroids, but I think there is a real problem. I fit the model from the symptoms I've read online.

Also, would my insurance cover this? I recently got a new job with solid benefits and would like to sort out some of the many problems I have neglected due to NO insurance coverage. i.e. sleep problems, high anxiety, digestive issues.

Thanks!!!

What kind of doctor deals with low testosterone?

urologist can treat you for this. Mine gave me implants every 16 weeks. No creams shots or pills.

Testosterone levels are normal, but there are still signs of low testosterone. What does that mean?

If you have the signs and symptoms of hypogonadism, then you have hypogonadism, regardless of “normal” testosterone levels (i.e. levels within some average range). That’s my opinion, anyway, and it is also the opinion of a number of prominent figures in this sphere, e.g. Malcolm Carruthers, world-class authority on testosterone. Carruthers has just written a new book — Testosterone Resistance — which explains “the mechanisms within the body and other factors that might lead to testosterone deficiency related symptoms in the absence of an absolute low level of total testosterone in the blood.” Quote from here: Testosterone Resistance by Professor Malcolm Carruthers — FYI.and:Symptoms not Blood Tests are the Answer -- Symptoms not Blood Tests are the Answer. The latest research has shown that *there is no relationship between blood levels of testosterone and the typical symptoms of testosterone deficiency*. This is because, like insulin resistance in diabetes, there are varying degrees of testosterone resistance in each man causing a relative rather than absolute insufficiency of the hormone. This is why* less than 5% of the men who could benefit from it are being given treatment*. The symptoms give the diagnosis, and when testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) is given on this basis, they usually go away and stay away, whether you start with low or high testosterone levels. Doctors should be treating the patient and not the laboratory. Its simple!

How do you know if u have low testosterone?

To find out whether you have low testosterone you need to have a blood test performed. The "symptoms" you describe are no indication of low levels of testosterone by reason that your genetic map could dictate that you have little or no facial hair for example... or maybe you never work out so you have low muscle mass... and maybe you are a pretty faced man!

I suggest you get to the gym and work out. Also, you could get a blood test just to be certain.

Why Were My Testosterone Levels So Low In A Blood Test?

First off, about me - I am 20, 5'10" 165Lbs, not fat at all but not scrawny either.

I went to the doctor to get blood work done to test (among other things) my testosterone levels. I was surprised when the doctor called me back and told me that my testosterone levels were on the low side of the spectrum, at 265ng/ml with an average ranging from 270ng/ml to 1080ng/ml. This is very surprising to me for multiple reasons -

-I have a very high sex drive, in fact, my girlfriend seems to think that it is almost too high sometimes.
-I was able to put on about 25lbs of muscle over the course of a year (some fat too, but not excessively by any means)
-I am not considered wimpy or feminine by anyone, although I am also not the sort of stereotypical "overly-masculine" kind of guy
-In general, I do not seem to host any of the common characteristics of low testosterone.

I feel like there may have been some reasons that my test scores came back so low.

-On the day of the exam I was dead tired, I had gotten hardly any sleep (about 6 hours), to add to that. I had also slept poorly for the entirety of the vacation I had been on for the previous week before my blood work.
-While on vacation I ate snack foods multiple times a day, and never worked out. For about 3 weeks before my exam I was eating more poorly than normal, and not exercising at the frequency I normally used to.
-I was very irritable on the day of my exam, the doctor took over an hour to get to me. I felt like my blood was about to boil by the time I saw him.

These 3 factors, lack of sleep, malnutrition, and stress, are the 3 main killers of testosterone. But are they enough of a killer to actually lower my testosterone levels by such a dramatic amount? Also, I had not masturbated for the duration of the trip, and only did once I was back.

I was also informed that I have low levels of HDL cholesterol.

I plan on doing the anabolic diet to fix my cholesterol and testosterone levels, although I feel like they may be a bit skewed.

How much does it cost to test testosterone level in blood?

Any general practitioner can request a blood test, & endocrinologists & urologists can/do request blood tests, too. If you want to go the route of doctors, ask your primary care physician- it'll cost less than an appt. with a specialist (uro/endo). I don't know of the cost of the test without insurance from some labs like Quest Diagnostics.

Though doctors are generally necessary for getting lab requisitions for blood tests, you can purchase blood tests without going through a doctor's appt. to get the requisition. Some places that offer this include

http://www.privatemdlabs.com/lab_tests.p... -$44.49 for total testosterone (this place also provides a 15% discount if you fill out a 3 question survey)

http://www.lef.org/Vitamins-Supplements/... - $132.00 for non-members; $74.25 for members (for free & total testosterone)

http://www.themultiservicenetwork.com/la... - $87.00 total testosterone

& other places. I've personally ordered from various places, but these have been the cheapest that I've seen so far.

I would opt for both a total & free (direct) testosterone test if I was you- you get more information to see how much total testosterone is present & how much is "free" to perform work.

Hope that helps.
