What kind of work does a 16 year old do at Target?

You can either be a floor team member, basically stocking shelves, making sure the store is neat, make sure all the items are neat, and just helping out others who need help. You can also work in the food court, some targets have a food center and you can sell food or even work inside a starbucks if your target has one.
My friend works at a starbucks inside target and I actually work in target as a register.
You can also be a cart attendant which is someone who basically just gets all the shopping carts from the parking lot and making sure the customers can find them easily.

Can i quit my job at target to work at another target?

uh if you are going to get fired all of the bad things you did be on you're record but if you are going to be laid off that might be a good idea

What's it like to work at Target for your first job?

It was fairly uneventful for me. I worked at a target about 30 minutes from my house during my senior year of high school. The drive was a little far, especially from my school that was an hour away.I worked cash register almost all the time. Every once in a while, I would restock shelves or work at the pharmacy. The pharmacy was one of my favorites because they sometimes let me fill prescriptions (which may not be allowed/legal), and i asked the pharmacist all kinds of pharmacology questions. After being there for a while, they had me work guest service at the desk. This is where most of my stories of weird or forceful people came from. I didn't have any real crazies, but people can be very insistent when attempting to return trash. When I started there, they were hard pushing Red Cards, the Target credit card. They stopped while I was there, and I don't personally like the idea of store credit cards, but man did I get some good sales. I've found that my experience hawking contracts at strangers gave me skills and confidence that I still rely upon. The Target where I worked had a pleasant culture that was fairly team oriented. I liked my supervisors, and they had buffets in the break room during the holidays. It's a good place to start, and your parents will be pleased that you can get them a 15% discount with your employee ID number.

Does anyone know what the orientation process for Target Store's includes?

You'll get your schedule for the first two weeks, but it's going to change every week. Like this week, I'm working Sun/Tues/Thurs/Sat mornings, whereas last week I only worked Tuesday night and Thursday morning. Usually, they'll give you a pretty consistent schedule while you're training, but it'll be an actual weekly schedule (I worked 40 hours my first week.)

You should start the day after orientation. They will make damn sure your orientation is less than five hours, because you're paid for orientation and if it goes over five hours they have to give you a meal break.

There'll be lots of paperwork to fill out (tax stuff, in-case-of-emergency forms, etc.) and you'll watch videos on safety and on how to deal with people. They'll also give you a packet that includes your handbook and info on things like benefits packages, and you'll get a temporary name tag.

Welcome to Target! If you have any other questions, you can send me a message.

p.s. unlike the previous poster, I think it's an excellent place to work. To each his/her own, I guess.

What is it like to work an overnight job at Target?

It has been about 10 years sine I did overnights but I doubt much has changed.  You usually report about 9PM and help the team prepare for the truck unload if their is a truck that day.  Usually 4 or 5 time a week.  When the unload starts it is about 2 hours of hectic work palletizing the boxes as the come off the truck and roll down the conveyor.  When the truck is empty the pallets are moved to the floor in the general area of the specific products on the pallet.  Then teams of about 3 or 4 start opening boxes and putting the merchandise in the proper location.  Special teams usually work the clothing area.  Some of the worst areas to work were domestics with the towels,  home furnishings particularly the frames because of all the packaging, anything with a lot of Styrofoam packing and extensive peg hook areas like cosmetics.  You get a 15 minute break at 2 hours, a 30 minute lunch at about 4 and another 15 at 6 hrs.  Of course lunch is BYO since you can't leave the building though some supervisors do open the doors for the smokers.  All the overstock gets put on vehicles and taken to the storeroom while all the cardboard and other packing material is taken to the bailer and compactor.  It usually is an 8 hour night though it can be less with a "small" truck of longer if a "big" truck or the occasional 2 trucks near the holidays.  Generally you are not working with very heavy products (unlike my stint at Home Depot were the paint products busted my ass).  If for some reason you need to work nights it was not bad.

Is it LEGAL for Target Stores to hire SPANISH-speaking only employees? Is it DISCRIMINATING?

Unfortunately its pretty common. When i first moved to AZ i couldnt get a lot of jobs because i dont speak spanish. Bilingual in the SW, i get that. But seeing how this is a predominantly english speaking country the spanish only channels in my cable package, billboards on my street, whole communities, and employees/signs where i attempt to shop are frustrating. And they petition to have everything dual language. I wouldnt try to live in france without knowing a little french. I dont understand.

How many people work in a single walmart/target or box store location? And how many floor associates and cashiers.

Im not sure if this is serious. Depending on the volume of sales typically dictates how many associates your store will have; eg 50 mil store will have wages appropriated for a number range, say 150-200 associates. However, it is not an exact science. Irc big box retailers want to generate sales somewhere in the neighborhood of 2-300k per associate/employee. With a group of 200 people, youre looking at about 25 department managers and other supervisors, 10 or more salaried members of management, 20-30 sales associates between two shifts, 20-30 overnight stockers, 20-30 back office people and unloading crew and finally, the front end. In all the stores I have worked at, the front end by job code had the most people and the most hours allocated. In the issue of cashiers, a walmart store following company guidelines will schedule to available shifts that is forecasted. The manager who is writing the schedules also has some flexibility in scheduling heavier on weekends or on a particular day, in case of a holiday or payday weekend, but this really depends on how the store manager or market manager operates. If your walmart has issues with cashiers in that there arent enough registers open, you should open a dialogue with the management team but chances are, they are probably experiencing some call-off issues and are working to bring in more help.
