What Paint To Use To Paint A Metal Jewelry Holder

Can I use acrylic craft paint on metal?

In most cases, metal primer paints are inexpensive and readily available. Prior to using the primer, it is a good idea to clean the surface to remove any debris. ... If the primer does not adhere to the metal surface, that means the acrylic paint is unlikely to adhere properly as well.

How can I remove paint on christmas balls to make them clear?

Here's some info from the Christmas page at my site on making them clear (we often then cover or embellish them with polymer clay, but you can ignore anything that relates to that part):

To make the colored balls clear:
....soak in hot soapy water, possibly with a little bleach... can add a bit of fabric to solution inside ball and shake to help remove
....another thing try for removing the color would be to use denture tablets (you know, like Efferdent tablets). It will even take flash-plating off of cheap jewelry, so I'd bet it will take the coating off of Christmas balls! Susannah
...I cleaned mine using salt and water.... no smell ....loved it! It was so easy....I just put a lot of salt and a little water inside and swirled it around. ..came off quickly and no mess, then poured that into the next ball, and maybe add a little more salt but kept pouring that mixture into the next ball! ...and made the glass sparkling clean....plus the balls I used were soo old...... Then I just rinsed them out and dried them. Deb in PA
...You can soak it in bleach OR ammonia OR vinegar ...BUT NEVER MIX any of those together!!!!!!! (...some paints come off better in ammonia, some in bleach, and some in vinegar)
...I bought these glass balls with a pearl coating on the outside which dissolves easily in water. . .the silver inside though is different. Dawn.
..these glass balls are made by different companies, so there is probably a difference in the paints they use

What can I do with my old toothbrushes?

If it’s been three months, it’s time to say goodbye to your toothbrush. But before you toss it in the trash, check out these creative ways to repurpose an old toothbrush.Clean the grout in your kitchen or bathroom : Just load up the brush with baking soda, or soak the head in bleach before you begin.Apply hair dye : A toothbrush is just the right tool for adding a streak of color or touching up those roots.Get between the keys of your computer keyboard : Hate the dust and grime coating the sides of your keys? Run a toothbrush between the keys. Use a dry or slightly damp toothbrush, tilting the keyboard at an angle so that the dislodged dust falls out, not in.Freshen up a comb : Combs have “teeth” too, and they accumulate oil and dust over time. Load up a toothbrush with soap (or toothpaste) and scrub away the gunk.Remove crayon : Got crayon marks on the walls? Just “brush” the wall with toothpaste, and the stains will disappear.Shine your soles : Dirt and pebbles can easily wedge their way into the bottoms of your shoes. Not to worry: The head of a toothbrush is the perfect size to brush away the filth.Start painting : The bristles of a toothbrush can be perfect for splattering speckles of color on a canvas or adding texture to your strokes.

Any ideas for a cheap do it yourself project anyone can do?(Note: 1 day project a 15 yr. old could do easily!

I teach blind kids, and we made fun trivets for Christmas presents this year. Get a bag of grout from Home Depot or Lowes, mix it with water and get the lumps out. Pour it into a mold, (an 8" cake pan is nice) or we used a plastic dinner plate from a picnic set. It has to have firm, consistent sides. Spray the mold with Pam, before pouring in the grout.

Pour the grout into the mold, tap the mold a few times on the table gently to get out any bubbles, then use any thing that catches your fancy for designs in the grout. We used decorator marbles of all colors and shapes, and placed them all through the grout. The grout was white, and the colors were spring time colors of green, yellow and orange and blues.

Between the marbles, we placed brightly colored smaller beads and stars to fill in any blank spots, and then let them sit for a few hours. When it has had time to sit and harden just tip it over and it should slide right out. If not, use the pointed end of a sharp knife carefully in one tiny spot, and it will ease right out.

They are beautiful!! And dirt cheap! A bag of grout is only 10.00, and the bags of marbles is about 1.99. But you can use seashell, pretty rocks, or just anything that you want to use. I have made these with seashells as souvenirs from a trip to the beach, and placed sand around the seashells as a special little extra!

You can use seeds, dried berries, or anything from nature. Buttons, beads, old jewelry pieces--if you have a teenager, let their imagination run! How fun!!

Also, depending on the size of the things you use for molds (you can use little cup cake holders and not fill them full) you can make sets of these for coasters, or use bigger ones for stepping stones outside. The ideas are limitless!

Have fun!

Oh, and another idea that we had in my class is decoupage, and its also REALLY cheap! Get a container of Aleen's decoupage matte or shiny, about 4.99, and cut out some cool pictures of anything your child is interested in. Any magazine, playing cards, Christmas cards, just anything.

Get an old stool, box, or whatever you have lying around (we used some cardboard boxes that I bought at Walmart for fifty cents each, but I also did a bar stool the same way!) and just paint over the picture and it will dry with a great looking sheen and the picture will stay on the box. Very cool looking!
