What Should I Buy At The Grocery Store To Stay Healthy

What should I buy at the grocery store to be healthy?

In addition to buying a lot of fresh foods (fruits and veggies, fresh meats, etc.), shopping healthy for me means not buying many processed foods. If I do buy foods that are boxed, canned or jarred, I read the labels, and I do my best to get foods with healthy ingredients and without a lot of preservatives. I also buy frozen vegetables, because they are usually picked at the peak of ripeness and frozen right away, preserving more of the nutrients than even some fresh ones. I don’t buy foods with high fructose corn syrup in them. When I want bread, I generally buy one with lots of seeds and grains in it and no preservatives. If I don’t think I’ll use it up fast enough before it would start to mold, then I take some out of the package to use for a few days and freeze the rest for later use.

What is a healthy lunch I can buy pre-made at a grocery store?

Fruit bowls. Fresh fruits: grapes, kiwis, apples, mandarins or clementines (segmented), melon (cantaloupe, honeydew or watermelon), berries (strawberries, blackberries). Add something different: I like arugula and matchstick daikon. Pears are nice. Cherries and nectarines, when in season are also nice, though dried and chopped work, too. Chilled. Dressing not really necessary. Topped with toasted brown rice flour.

How to eat and stay healthy if you're broke or poor?

I'm looking at food suggestions in order to keep healthy, but in today's economy it's so hard b/c healthy foods are expensive (except for oatmeal and cereal). Now, I'm poor and can't afford to eat many things that nutrionists suggest. And I'm looking at these food suggesstions and I think, "OMG I'm gonna go broke if I go to the grocery store to buy those healthy foods." So what should I do? I want to be healthy and not gain weight, but my pantry is literally empty b/c my family is poor. So what to do? And serious answers please!

What is a meal plan that I can just take to the grocery store as a list and buy all my items?

In the course of my journey through fitness and weight loss, I realized that the simplest diets are also sometimes the most healthy and cost effective.I try to only consume $10 a day in food and supplements. For a 220lb person, that's easier said than done. But to boil it down to the basics, I have 2 whey isolate protein shakes per day (1.5 scoops = ~37g protein each) mixed (i just shake it together in a jar) with chocolate soy milk, water and sometimes vanilla yogurt. This is a crazy simple meal that takes about 3 minutes to prep and accounts for 25% of my daily calories (about 500) AND has a very high protein content (~40g) which is critical for fat loss.I have one of those for breakfast and one in the evening when I start to get rumbly tummy.Inbetween, I have just about anything else I can conceive of that costs less than $6. So, meat and potatoes, meat and rice, meat and veggies. Alternatively, I keep about 36 eggs in the fridge at all times. If I ever get hungry, I just make a bunch of scrambled eggs with cheese, bread, ham, etc etc. It's a very simple diet, but it works great, doesn't cost much more than $10 a day and it all fits on one fridge shelf.I've lost about 11 pounds in 8 weeks on this diet. I work out 3 days a week. My strength is still the same and I'm looking better and better every week.Cheers and good luck!

I never know what to get to eat at the grocery store, any ideas?

I have a history of getting stuck on one thing and eating the same thing every day. I don't really like it like that, but, I have some weird mental thing where I can never figure out anything new to make. For example, my latest binge is chicken fingers and fries every day.

I need to think of new things to eat. Plus, one other thing is I want to stay on the at least semi-healthy side so I can lose some weight. Also, trying to stay away from heavily processed food.

Let's get one thing strait though. I'm a man. A big, hungry man who loves manfood like pizza, bbq, etc. But I do need to loose weight, but I can't do any of that 1200 calorie per day grapefruit and salad BS....

So, any and all ideas are appreciated!
