What should I do if my dog is breathing irregularly?

Get off Quora now and call your vet. If you can’t reach them, take the dog to the nearest veterinary emergency facility. There are multiple things which could cause this, no one can diagnose it via Quora, and all of the conditions causing irregular breathing require immediate medical attention.Your other choice is to ask questions on social media on which your next posting should be “My dog died. What should I do?”

Why is my cat breathing heavy with his mouth open?

There can be a perfectly normal explanation. If you play with a cat and get it to chase toys repeatedly, it can get “winded”, just like a human, which means that it has to breathe through its mouth briefly to catch its breath. It will flop down to catch it’s breath, and pant until it is ready to go again. If the cat has not been playing vigousously or running, and it is not very hot in the room, the cat needs to see the vet right away. When cats get overheated, they pant, but they don’t do it as readily as dogs. If your cat is panting and his tongue is red, you may have to wet him down with cool water very soon and place him where it’s noticeably cooler.I once saw a young asian man with a cat in wire cage on the front of his bicycle in 100 degree summer heat. He went past in the opposite direction too fast for me to act. The cat was in terrible distress, near heat stroke, panting hard, too hot to even howl, tongue very red. I was stuck in a line of cars, waiting to board a ferry. If he had stopped in the shade and poured cool water all over the cat and took it indoors anywhere, he could have likely saved it. I would have offered to put the cat and boy inside my truck with the AC on and driven the two home. The image of that suffering cat is burned into my memory.

My dog was just snake bitten. she is breathing heavily and is laying down. her right front foot is huge.?

Get her to the vet.

Tell them exactly what you gave her, bring the bottles sot hey know the exact amount of active ingredients, etc.

DO NOT WASH THE AREA!!! Any trace amounts of snake saliva left could be used to identify the snake.

If she is a large dog and you can't lift her, call a neighbor (someone with 2 seconds) or grab a bed sheet, sling it under her armpits to her hips, and lift like that. If she knows DOWN and STAY keep her there, as the more she moves the faster the poison will move. Try to keep her limb lower that her heart, not that that should be a problem.

And step on it!

My dog is breathing hard, not moving around as much and not eating. What should I do?

Yes we are very worried and we are keeping her in a cool room with water next to her. we didn't know if it was very very serious but from the answers we are getting we are taking her to the vet today.

Why does my dog breathe so heavily? He's a mixed breed, and has done this since we got him as a puppy.

You should consult your vet to check that he doesn't have a heart complaint, or that your home is not too hot. My dogs pant when it gets warm, As I have standard poodles/ portipoo, and if they have any hair and they walk or it gets warm..they pant… My young one is a noisy sleeper a lot of the time and makes noises… so I'm not sure… as I've not heard your dog but I would look into flax oil/ krill oil/ supplementing with things like l carnitine. l ysine, l glutamine. Also hawthorn and coq10 for the heart. be sure you know interactions with meds, as hawthorn does not go well with a lot of those; it IS contrainidcated. My dog is not on drugs, but has a heart murmur for 6–7 yrs… He does well on all this stuff, plus MSM, glucosamine and chondroitin. I just put him on Low dose naltrexone to bring inflammation down and make everything work better for him. :) My first port of call would be a holistic vet, if I were you. I also walk my dogs for up to two hours, regardless of age; if not puppies ), just the dog’s ability.

I have a standard poodle who has recently started to breathe heavily when NOT excercising. any ideas as to why

Please ask your vet - heavy breathing can be a symptom of so many things, some of them can be very serious - like a lung or heart disorder. I hope it's nothing - maybe he is just uncomfortable because of heat or humidity.

What does it mean when my dog is trembling when breathing and has not eatten in a week?

That they should have seen vet several days ago, and need to be taken in NOW, as soon as humanly possible even if that means an after hours or emergency clinic. If you, your parent or your child were trembling and had not eaten in a week, would you seriously search the internet for what to do, all the while letting them suffer and potentially deteriorate (get worse) to the point that they might be unable to be saved?!?
