What Should I Major In If I Want To Work At An Aquarium Or Zoo

How hard is it to get a job as an Aquariest?

I Major in herpetology but I took classes in marine Biology, Primatology and many others.

Zoologists have to major in a specific catogory. I majored in herpetology like I said in my first paragraph. I worked for an Aquariam and a Zoo when I was 17.

If you need anymore help feel free to message me.

Does a Penguinologist exist?I like animals, but I want to work with Penguins. Not all animals. So I want to know

Monterey Bay Aquarium and a few other sites use the term Penguinologist. I think a Penguinologist is a person who works as a biologists, at research institutes, zoos or aquariums but work with or specialize in Penguins. But their job title would just be Marine Biologist, Zookeeper, Animal Caretaker, etc.

Most likely you'll need a zoology, marine biology, or marine science. Then try to volunteer, intern, or work at a place with penguins (Aquarium, Zoo, Sea World, Conservation Center, or Rehab Center).

Here are some links I hope you enjoy them and get some good information from them.

Jobs for a biology major?

While doing graduate work in Biology at my university,
an ignorant freshman biol/pre-med major asked me.
"If one does not go to med school,
then the others go into teaching,
what else is there?
I quickly "educated" her!

Zoology and Botany Programs are often in the Biology Dept.
You will take the same classses for the first 2-3 years.
During your Jr and Sr. year will take your choice of specialized elective classes.
e.g. animal/human or plant physiology/cell biol.; microbiol etc.

I had friends that went to
med school, dental, pharmacy, optometry, vet, chiropactor, biotech, med tech, physician assitants, bioinformatics, organic farming, science journalism.
There are numerous other fields.

A few went into sales of biol and medical supplies.
But this takes a certain type of person.
Some sales people I came across were more interested in that 20% commision than if their product really works.

There is also online/phone tech assistants.

Computers and software play a big part in many industries.
Very much so in biol.
Bioinformatics, data analysis and storage, robotics/automation, and just keeping your co-workers computers running smoothly.
So if you are good at this,
you will be very desirable to employers.

As for myself, I did lab research for several years.
Today I teach (yep the T word)
and do consulting in Ag. genetics.

Best Wishes!

Where do i go to college for aquatic veterinarian medicine?

When I look online at what colleges teach aquatic veterinarian medicine, and the only college that comes up is UF but they only have like little programs from my understanding. Can you just go to college specifically for aquatic veterinarian medicine?

Marine Biologist who studies only sharks?!?

I really love sharks! I think they're the most amazing animals on earth! Plus, I love shark week:) So if I wanted to be a marine biologist, could I only study sharks are have to study the marine life as a whole? Honestly, I'd be happy with either! I know you have to take a ton of science (love) classes and probably math (hate) but I want to be one so bad I would take millions of science classes! So could I mainly study sharks? Also, how many years of school are required? Oh last question, could you work at a zoo?
Thanks!:)
