Errand service?
i would charge by errand. my gosh that's a great idea! i was talking about that recently saying the gov. should fund something like that. they really don't need to out driving anyways. they get intimidated to easily. 9-5 or 8-6 would be ideal i think. look into how much cab services charge, and see how much grocery stores charge for their pick up services (i know they offer getting groceries ready and a pickup) then go by how much you would like to do in a day. maybe talk w/ a couple old people to see what their opinion is about what exactly would be the most helpful. good luck!
Errand Running Services?
There are a few services in my area, my own company included. Your rates are far lower than most of the services here, but this is a resort destination, including Breckenridge, Keystone, and Copper Mountain ski areas. My rates are the lowest at $20/hour base plus 10% of the total bill. There are a couple of other services that charge $20/hour plus 20% of the bill. However, if you are serving mostly senior citizens, they will likely be on fixed incomes and less able to afford the service. Are you sure there aren't any similar services in your area? There are low barriers to entry and if there aren't any now, you might expect to see some pop up once your business starts to get noticed. There is a great Yahoo! group on errand running services. Very good, actually .1. First I would like to tell you about a system that was in place in a company where one of my relatives worked. The company had a section of employees to take care of the personal errands of the other employees like going to the bank, paying their kid's school fees etc. The errands involved were those which had to be done on weekdays because the company did not want to lose out on the employee's paid hours. Also the chargess were nominal (Rs 15-25). Needless to say the system was a great success. But it is to be noted that the company subsidised the charges heavily and also this system existed around 8-9 years ago and I don't know whether it still exists. 2. Now coming to the market scenario. The charges in present day for such errands would be around Rs 100-300(a rough estimate based on personal experiences). The big question is" Would people pay Rs 300 for an errand ??". According to me it will depend upon the money involved in the errand. Say you want to get Rs 10000 deposited in the bank . In such a situation people wouldn't mind paying Rs 300 to get the job done. But say it is buying groceries from a store worth Rs 500 , then people won't be happy paying the fees to get the job done . 3. The third most important factor is the buying power and the size of the community. In small cities and towns, it is a close-knit community, not only between neighbours and friends, but also with the grocery vendors , tailors es,c. So it will be a hard thing to replace such communities with aa new system. Where this idea can work is in the big metropolitan cities with young population who do not have time for errands due to hectic work schedules. The best example that comes to my mind is Bangalore. 4. Now coming to the people who will do the errands. They should ideally be people who are from the local community as they can get better deals and also know the best places in the city to get a product/service. This will be a great source of income for people who don't have proper education. Also they will get you the best deals across town.

Is an errand business profitable?
I'm looking to start an errand business including services such as grocery shopping, transportation to appointments, prescription drop off/pick up, pet sitting/dog sitting, pet check-in, senior check-in, laundry service, etc. I was thinking of charing by hour depending on the service ranging from $18-25. Is this even a good idea?? I'm not looking to get rich but not wanting to struggle from paycheck to paycheck. If I can steadily bring in at least $450 a week I'm fine.
