What The Best Way To Heal My Industrial Piercing

How can I help my industrial piercing heal? It’s already 3 weeks but it's infected and slightly bleeding.

Only a doctor can diagnose an infection. Some bleeding and swelling around the piercing site(s) is normal. If there is clear/white/pale yellow liquid/puss this is most likely an over production of white blood cells which aid the healing process (I can’t remember the proper name for it). If there is puss that is more yellow or smells bad then it indicates an infection. You should go back to the piercer, or to a reputable piercer, for advice. But they can’t (and shouldn’t) diagnose it as either infected or not.Make sure the jewellery is high quality implant grade titanium (not surgical steel) and internally threaded or push-pin.Mix 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt in 1 cup of boiled water. Once it has cooled a bit, you should ideally use sterile gauze for this but cotton wool would do, dip the gauze into the solution and hold it against the piercing site. Then repeat for each side of each piercing. Do this once in the morning and once in the evening. If you do have to use cotton wool be very careful that it doesn’t leave behind any fibres on the piercings, this is another advantage of using non-woven gauze as it won’t leave fibres behind which disrupt healing.Sleep on the other side. Keep your hair away from the piercing. Try to keep hair washing days and swimming to a minimum to keep the ear dry. Don't take phone calls on the side of the piercing (your phone is covered in bacteria). Don’t touch it apart from when cleaning (as above), and have clean hands when you do clean it.

What is the best way to care for an industrial piercing?

Same as with other piercings. Do not touch the fresh piercing. Keep the area clean by using saline solution. Boil water then cool it down, add a quarter of tablespoon of non-iodised salt. Dip a cotton wool ball in this solution and hold onto the pierced area. Repeat it w a fresh cotton ball a few times. Do this regime a few times a day and it helps the area heal quicker and without infections. Even if the piercing looks angry red or swollen, saline soaks promote healing and calm infections very well. This method works well for everyone. Another idea is to use a saline spray for piercings such as H2Ocean as it is less fussy to apply. But saline w cotton ball always does the trick to me even when my nose piercings got v irritated /inflamed, saltwater reduced this in just 2 days and the healing was also much faster. In case u have crusties, then u can remove them gently with a q-tip soaked in saline as well. Do not use alcohol or hydrogen peroxide or any other harsh, drying stuff.

How do i know my Industrial Piercing is healed?

I got my piercing 3 days ago and after hearing "it's going to hurt for 2 weeks or It's gonna pus and bleed. It'll hurt when you smack it!" I was prepared for the worst. But in reality it's day 3 and PERFECT. It doesnt hurt and i can move the jewelery with ease. People said it would hurt like crazy when i cleaned it. But i feel nothing. I love my piercing and I've always been an excellent recovery person. I recently had surgery on my stomach today and as soon as it was done i got up and walked to my car easily.

But i was wondering when i can change out my jewellery? it isnt red swollen or anything. should 6 weeks do it?

Why won’t my industrial piercing heal?

Because industrial piercings are remarkably fussy healers. Helix are bad, but industrials are worse. It's because you have not one, but two cartilage piercings in your ear, with a bar joining them… and with limited wiggle room. Then there's the part about at least one part of the piercing always in contact with your pillow when you sleep. That by itself is more than cause enough to make any piercing get inflamed and swollen…

How to soothe industrial piercing?

yep. thats an industrial for you. it's going to feel like that for about a week. take some aspirin and do some warm sea salt soaks (1/4 tsp sea salt to 1 cup warm water) every day for about 5 minutes for the entire healing process. the salt soaks will prevent infection and help with swelling. after the soaks you can always put ice on it also. that should help with swelling and pain. but make sure to soak your ear. dont use a qtip or cotton ball. sooaaakkk the ear. it softens the crusties and gets rid of them and prevents them from getting in your piercing, which causes infection. but some aspirin, sea salt soaks and ice should help a ton with the pain. also try not to sleep on it. it will irritate the piercing!

How can i make my industrial piercing heal a bit faster?

You still have somewhere between and 6 months to go on healing your industrial and that is a VERY short estimate.

One of the best things for a healing industrial is regular sea salt soaks. You can do this by mixing 1/4 teaspoon sea salt with 8oz warm water. Apply the solution to the piercing for a few minutes at a time every day. This will help keep the area clean and can encourage healing. DO NOT put alcohol or ointments on your piercing, since niether is appropriate for a piercing.

Aside from sea salt soaks, you need to protect your ear from getting bumped, knocked, pressed on, or played with. So no touching, no sleeping on it, and no whacking it by accident.

As for your adventures with stretching, you need to research the subject. Stretching is not just something that you do in the space of a month. It is a commitment of a great deal of time and care for your piercings.

If you're too impatient to heal an industrial, you're going to need to work on that before you begin stretching. And learning the correct terms for the process and the tools/jewlery involved are a great place to start.

How long will it take for my industrial piercing to heal?

You really shouldn't swap the jewellery out so soon.

The scabbing should stop, for the most part, within the month, but the healing will take at least 8 months, and up to a year and a half.

If the piercer is the one putting the smaller bars in, it should be okay (with a lot of aftercare), but it isn't something most piercers would do unless the single bar was causing problems.

Also, speaking from experience, two short bars can pull down and change the angle of the piercing, making it impossible to fit a single bar back through, and slowing healing.
If they put two bars through, make sure the balls all fit snugg against your ear. If they don't, ask for shorter bars, labret style studs, or CBRs to be put in instead.

When should you move your industrial piercing up and down? I got mine done today.

Please try to avoid touching your piercing as much as possible during the healing process! If you have decent quality jewelry (think surgical steel or similarly biocompatible material) you need to allow your piercing to heal. Your skin will not “get stuck” to the jewelry and moving it will only delay the six month healing process.Make sure to use saline to clean your piercing once or twice a day, or more frequently if you feel especially dirty. Also, please take care to not let shampoo or conditioner contaminate your fresh piercing. Once your piercing has finished healing and you want to change the jewelry, come take a look through my shop!

What is the healing process like after getting an industrial piercing?

There might be a little bit of pain or discomfort, but not too much, it doesn’t compare to the amount of pain felt while actually getting it pierced. If you clean it every day, be sure not to bump it, and be sure not to sleep on it, it should be fine. Sometimes it might swell up, get crusties, ooze or bleed but if you’re keeping it clean then none of these things should happen, or happen excessively anyways. Make sure to spray it with saline solution, or do salt soaks (no table salt) at least twice daily, the more you clean the more it will help the healing process. It will take about a year for it to heal completely, do not change the bar unless completely necessary. If you take it out, it closes quite quickly so be careful, I had to have mine pierced twice because a few months after the first one, I took it out for school and left it too long. If they arent allowed at your school/work etc then get a clear barbell, try to get it done with a clear barbell because changing into one before it heals isnt a good idea. You might accidentally bump it sometimes and in that case you will feel pain and you might want to spray or salt soak it, keep away from antibacterial soaps and such, i'm sure your piercer will tell you what's good and what isn't for your industrial. In my opinion, it’s a great piercing to have and definitely worth getting. :) It’s my favourite piercing, hence why I got it again after it closed the 1st time.

How badly does an industrial piercing hurt?

It's not painful so much as a mild, constant annoyance while it heals. As with other piercings, the initial pain is sharp but over in seconds, after which you have to clean it religiously every day, clip your hair back so it doesn't get caught, avoid over-ear headphones and hats, avoid it while changing clothes, and sleep on the other side every night for the next couple months. It has a higher likelihood of complication than other piercings since the two cartilage piercings will almost inevitably be under some pressure from the barbell alignment, so you should take fairly proactive care of it.Mine healed enough to change the bar in 3 months, and healed completely after 10-11 months. That said, I love my industrial :)
