Parachute Jump In Coney Island?

As a kid growing up in Brooklyn, my parents always told me that it was closed due to an accident where someone died on it. I've recently googled it and searced everywhere for details on this freak accident, and I can't find anything on anyone dying! Can anyone tell me if anyone actually died on that ride or I was lied to my whole life?

My childhood is offically deprived.

Thank you to anyone who can help!

How to make a dirt bike street legal in New York State?

I don't know about specific state laws, but at the very least, you need a speedometer, brake light, and turn signals front and rear, as well as a headlight.

What are the things for kids 10 & under to do & see in Brooklyn/Staten Island with adult supervision?

Depends on what type of things you are looking for or interested in. Brooklyn Children's Museum. Botanical Gardens. Aquarium. Luna park. Ferry rides. Cross over and take a Beast or Duck (not sure if they still have this, super cool though) Ride in Manhattan. Central Park Castle. Outdoor movies in multiple areas just to name a few. Go to the parks dept website they have a whole lot of things to do. Most are minimal in pricing if not free or asking for donation. Enjoy! I am not sue about SI but I am sure there is a lot to do there as well.

Where can I go to learn to race cars for fun near NYC?

If road racing (turning both ways on tracks) is what you're interested in, your best bet is to take an introductory racing school at Skip Barber (www.SkipBarber.com). You can take such a course at Lime Rock Park (www.LimeRock.com) in Lake Ville, CT. The track is pretty easy to get to from NYC using a combination of train and rental car.

What is needed on a go kart to make it street legal in new york?

I don't know about new york, but most cities will not allow go karts, 4 wheelers, dirt bikes, ect. No matter what you do unless there is a law passed in that city to allow them. they are illegal to ride dow the street. Some cities have recently passed laws to allow golf carts, but not regular ones, they are special ones that are made to run on the streets, and you have to buy them like that. You need to check with state and city law, but most chances are you will never be able to drive a go kart legally on the street. Why don't you buy a scooter instead. they are street legal.

Why are skating rinks and bowling alleys things of the past?

In my opinion, there different reasons why each of these have shrunk in number over the past two decades or so. With bowling, one reason is cost. Bowling centers are expensive to maintain. Mechanical pinsetters have a lot of moving parts, and maintenance and repair must be ongoing. Add to that the cost of replacing “house” bowling balls and bowling shoes, rising wages and the upkeep of the approaches and lanes themselves, and you can understand why it can cost $5 or more per game to bowl. But a second, bigger reason for the the decline in bowling alleys is that there are fewer people bowling in leagues. League bowling used to be a center’s main source of income, and most nights bowling alleys didn’t even have open bowling because every lane was taken up by one league or another from 7 pm until closing. Today, it is very easy to find open lanes any night of the week. That loss of guaranteed income has hurt bowling centers tremendously, forcing many of them to close. One example: In Staten Island, NY, there were nine bowling centers as late as the early 1990s. Today, only two remain—and one of those closed for a time before reopening under new management. Younger people aren’t taking up the sport in the same numbers as previous generations, and again, cost has been a factor. In addition to the increase in the price of bowling, which means that it is now much more expensive to practice, the cost of bowling equipment has risen dramatically. The advent of new materials with which to make bowling balls has given bowlers a much wider variety of balls, but it now can cost over $300 to buy a top-of-the-line ball.Marketing moves such as cosmic bowling, pay-by-the-hour rates, and promoting bowling centers for children’s birthday parties and other events have not been able to recoup the lost income from league bowling, and the number of centers has decreased in response to the lessened demand. With roller skating rinks—and I am only guessing because I can’t skate to save my life—I believe the creation of in-line skates may partly be to blame. In-line skating became an exercise craze in a way that traditional skating never was. People took their new skates and hit the parks and streets. But also, skating as a pastime simply went out of style. When I was a child skating parties were a big deal; with my children, not so much. Again, as demand decreases the number of rinks able to stay in business also drops.
