What To Do About My Partial Denture After Surgical Extraction

Can anyone give advice on getting a partial denture to replace front upper four teeth that protrude?

I've seen an orthodontist who said he would put braces on my teeth but thought they would probably move back to a protruding position fairly quickly because of my tongue thrust. I could wear a retainer but I'm middle aged and want something that is more permanent without the long process of braces and the hassle of wearing a retainer. Specialists have said that fixing them in other ways (veneers) would be difficult, if not impossible, and very expensive because of the overbite. So I'm thinking of taking the extreme step of having the front four pulled out and replaced with a partial denture. I have a consultation arranged next week with a denturist and have been researching the net to read other's experiences but haven't found much yet. Has anyone gone through this procedure and if so, are you happy with the results?

Just had 8 teeth extracted and partical denture fitted straight the way?

i had this done on friday im really struggling cant eat hardly anything and living on painkillers.when i had them fitted the dentist told me they was a perfect fit and didnt need to use glue but right from the start they are comfortable on one side but the other side is agony(there is more weight on this side due to the shape of the partial denture) i have kept them in solid for 3 days as advised and gargled with saltwater.

i removed them yesterday for the first time and have a big ulcer, so i thought i would try some fixadent to see if that helps stopping the rubbing, but when i removed them again the glue was all stuck to the route of my mouth. to give my self a break i left them out over night but this morning my route of my mouth is really sore almost as if the glue had irritated it as it was fine before.

is it to soon to go back to the dentist from the start the dentures have felt to high on one side, because i also had teeth removed do i have to wait for my gums to settle.

the teeth look brilliant but im in pain, cant eat, cant talk properly but im sure this is more because im in pain. i want to heal as quick as possible so because of the ulcers do i keep my teeth in or by taking them out will this delay healing.

Pain and Extractions for Partial Dentures?

I am going in on Friday to my regular dentist. I am having 6 teeth on my left side pulled (one of which is my wisdom tooth) and then 2 molars pulled on my right side. I will have an immediate partial put in. I will have my happy pill the hour before I go and then another one when I get there.

I am really scared already, and have days to go. I have been going thru dental work for a year now. I have been on soft foods for about 4 months now, so I have already lost all the weight I can.

Can someone tell me what to expect? Pain wise? When will I be able to eat?! I am very excited about that part! Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Is it normal to insert sponge after molar tooth extraction (Dental Question)?

Don't worry they (sponges) will eventually dissolve/disappear after sometime.

All you need to do now is to take care of your dental hygiene to prevent any bacterial infection at the area.

Rinse your mouth with listerine solution or any mouth rinser you can found near your place.

Hope my explanation may help to solve your curiosity on this matter.

Good luck :)

What's it like to wear a removable partial denture?

I hope the total cost of getting the denture includes fixing up some of your teeth! I couldn't claim that the cost is too high without seeing what you are getting done, and the other posters comments about bridge prices are probably a lot lower than average, but its a good guide anyway for an individual bridge. The temporary bridges and all the planning involved in ensuring a good bite is very necessary, and that sure can stackup pretty quickly. The main thing you should take into consideration is the quality of the work you are going to get when you decide to spend that kind of money. And I would agree with investing in a second opinion.

One of the main disadvantages of dentures obviously is that you need to remove them to clean your teeth. Depending on how many teeth you have You often can't chew as well with them. Food can get stuck under them and if you don't clean properly you get decay where plaque is festering where your denture sits. They often need to be replaced or relined every so often, and sometimes they break.

Bridges are permanently fixed to your teeth. one disadvantage is that it is difficult to clean under the bridge and if one of the teeth supporting the bridge gets wrecked from decay or breaks or unsticks from the bridge, it may result in bad outcomes for the other tooth and all the fake teeth which make up the bridge. Nothing in dentistry lasts forever, but in terms of bridges the longer they are the more likely they are to fail. Noone can tell you how long your bridge is going to last as it depends on your bite and what you do with them, whether you grind your teeth, have strong jaw muscles, clean properly etc. They can last 10 years which would be good, and some people retain them for 30+ years.

Another option is to get implants to fill the gaps instead. These are a good solution if you have enough bone or can have bone added, because they won't take out the other teeth if they fail. You can clean between them like regular teeth and get high chewing force from them and statistically they last alot longer than bridges. Of course if dentures cost 8600 you may be looking at +20k

If you have other questions add them to your question and I'll see if I can address them too.

edit: i've seen your additional info. I'll just digest it first and reply later today. cheers.

What happens if I don't get a dental implant soon after extraction?

If you don't get an implant soon after extraction, and they didn't place anything in the extraction wound to help prevent bone loss, you will have bone loss. Since there is no more tooth in the area, bone loss will increase dramatically and you might not be a good candidate for implants in the future due to insufficient bone in the area for the implant.

Your teeth will go out of alignment too because teeth drift towards space. So the teeth beside your extration area will shift towards it and the tooth above will shift downwards to the space. If you are lucky enough, your upper and lower teeth lock each other in place when you bite and they will not shift as badly.

If you can't afford the dental implants, there are other cheaper alternatives. You can have a dental bridge placed or unilateral removable partial denture. This won't stop the bone loss but it will stop your teeth from drifting and will restore your eating function.

I hope that helped.

What is causing my tooth pain 10 months after extraction?

What is causing my tooth pain?10 months ago I had a tooth extraction on upper right 4 in a tooth that had root canal (and crown). I had it removed because I’d had a painless self draining abscess in the gum for about 12 years post apicoectomy. When the crown popped off the dentist struggled for a long time to get the tooth out and there was a LOT of digging around. She was in training. Others were coming in during asking if she was SURE she didn’t need any help. One of them pointed out she was using the wrong tool at one point.I was in a lot pain in the week to follow especially when lying down at night (and they didn’t give me pain killers!).I now have a pain that started a few months ago (dentist thought it was because I didn’t have anything in the space at the time). It’s got a lot worse in the last couple of weeks and he xrayed it to check there are no pieces of bone left. He thinks the pain is coming from so much of the bone being removed. I am not sure he knew it was pain felt in the neighboring tooth. I didn’t realise myself until now and I am not sure that it hasn’t changed. It’s a sharp nerve pain, 6 or 7 / 10 (not the 10 out of 10 kind of pain with a direct connection with a nerve though) seemingly from the neighboring tooth or my sinus. Which has come on sometimes after eating, when flying and the plane changed pressure and yesterday it happened because I stood up! It may get better when putting pressure on the sinus at the side of the nose on that side or it may just be it would have stopped anyway. What do you think is causing this and should I be doing anything other that waiting for the bone to grow back?

Partial Denture, Bridge, or implant?

Just went to the dentist and found out that I needed a tooth extracted. I have the following options denture, bridge, or implant. What should I do? The implant requires screw in my jaw and will never change color as I age. The bridge require 2 good teeth to be shaved and increase the chance of decay for all 3 teeth. The denture may be uncomfortable and a pain to clean.....Please help, any ideas

What is better, root canal or a tooth extraction?

It is a difficult decision. Losing a tooth can lead to a domino effect of problems including bone loss, other teeth shifting and feeling more aged. However, maintaining a bad tooth can be expensive. Here are the options to consider: 1. Get the root canal. Usually this is followed by a "build-up" (replacing the lost part of the tooth) and a crown. The $4000 quote you got seems pretty pricey. I would guess that you could have it done for less than or around $3000 by shopping around. The down side is that there is no %100 guarantee that the root canal will work. If it fails then it has to be redone or else the tooth is extracted. 2. Extract the tooth. As you've noted this is the least expensive option. The problem is that the adjacent and opposing teeth can begin to shift position. The treatment after an extraction can be expensive. Usually after an extraction one would receive either: a) an implant, abutment and crown, b) a dental bridge or c) some type of a partial denture. Probably an implant is the best option and also the most expensive.  Really think it through. Losing teeth can make someone look and feel older and can lead to other expensive problems down the road.
