What To Do If The Person I Pressed Charges On Hasn

What happens when you press charges?

WHat happens when you press charges? my female friend was attacked by four other women, one was under age and she used a bottle in the fight. My friend needed to be hospitalized. My glasses where broken by one of the four girl while i was trying to get them off of her. We are pressing charges. So what exactly happens?

Can I press charges over a person that hit my car?

that is typical of some butt head now that he had time to think of a story, First, get a copy of the police report and send it to his insurance company so you can prove he lied to them too. You may have to go down to the police department and pay a small fee for the report. Next, go to a body shop if your car is drivable, if not driveable you may have to make appointments with local body shops to give you a written estimate. I always try to get three, then pick the one I like the best.Meanwhile if you cannot make arrangements to borrow a car you may have to rent one. Be sure and contact the dmv and tell them the guys name and address who damaged your car and refused to pay. You can prove with expert testimony he was NOT AT WORK. SO you have this guy by his short hairs he is being stupid and dense. You do all the right thing, and keep checking with his insurance to make sure they know butt wipe was at the scene and damaged your car. If all else fails sue him and his insurance company in small claims court. with his testimony already on file in a police report he is already screwed. It may take longer than you want but the car is going to get fixed. keep the faith, keep doing the right things and never let some lame sorry excuse for a insurance company or a worthless butt head ruin your day you turn around and pounf their head in the sand like the turkey they are;

If someone is assaulted and the victim does not press charges, can the assaulter still get into legal trouble?

Others have written good answers and some of those others are lawyers or police officers ... Me? I'm neither, but I think I have a little to add that may help clarify things (but not really add a lot new).In a criminal case, the case reads e.g. New York vs. Joe Smith.  In a civil case, it would be Jane Doe vs. Joe Smith. In a criminal case, the prosecution is done by some combination of police officers, other investigators, and the city, state or federal authorities.  The police are paid by the "people".  If it goes to trial, the attorneys for the prosecution are also paid by the people. Several people raised the fact that, in a murder case, the victim can't press charges. True.  But hardly unique! This also happens in many drug cases, prostitution cases and child/spousal abuse cases. However, it wasn't always so and it isn't so everywhere.  All the above is centered on the USA (although I believe many other countries are similar). Some states have, however, not even tried to prosecute criminals and others make only minor efforts to do so.  This failure may be due to the actual law or it may be due to lack of resources or it may be due to corruption. When this is the case, people take the law into their own hands.  Such places are always very violent.  E.g. the "wild west". I'd be interested to hear about how criminal cases work in other countries.

Can you press charges against someone if you don't know their name?

Let's say someone commits a crime against you, and then legally changes their name. Can you still press charges against them even if you don't know their new name?

I may not have been clear enough. Let me explain.
Joe Green punches Some Guy.
Joe Green later changes his name to Joe Johnson.
Some Guy goes to the police and files assault charges against Joe Green, unaware that this is no longer his name.

Will Joe Johnson still be found?

Can I press charges for someone illegally withholding my property?

My ex won't let me get any of my items. We just recently broke up and I only took a few things with me. I left behind a lot of clothes and 2 tvs. He is not currently staying at the home either. When I left we were on good terms but when I tried to get my things there was always some excuse. A few days ago he told me he moved all my things to his mother's garage but when I called her she told me she hasn't seen him in days and the only thing he put in there was a box of his clothing. Now he won't return my calls and I have no way to get my things. If I break in to get my stuff even though I'm technically a tenant with bills in my name, would I face criminal charges? If I decide to get the police involved can I press criminal charges?
